Coaching Search Recap

I always figured Durham only had a job because he and Staff were roommates. Would he even make another NFL roster?

Tebow to Peyton is opposite ends of the spectrum. Decker had 600 yards and 8 TDs with Tebow. The talent was always there. Peyton allowed him to showcase his talents.

But also look at Denver, good year in 2012 with just D Thomas, Decker and decent run game (McGahee 4.4 YPC, Moreno 3.8 YPC). 2013 Add Welker(over Brandon Stokely) and J. Thomas(over Tamme and Dreesen) and better run game(better year Moreno in 2013 plus Montee Ball), made it a record setting offense. Adding weapons helps even people like Peyton. Especially of 3 of them. And you should never stop wanting to add weapons. They are not going to change QBs. Only thing left is coaching and number 2 and number 3 WR. We'll see on TE. The redzone TE threat is there with Fauria.

You just proved my point. QBs are very important on how WR are viewed. Stafford did not make a WR better this year.

He needs to work out his issues. Throwing your hands on your head or in the air anytime a WR drops a ball does not help the WR. Thoroeibg the ball consistently accurate does help.

Maybe he'd be a #4 WR somewhere if he was any good on special teams. That'd probably be his best-case scenario. He was drafted in 2011 in the 4th round by the Seahwaks.

You are an idiot.

You keep saying how all these guys would produce for us.....im telling you I don't see it. PROVE TO ME how broyles is going to step in and be this huge lift for the offense. How nate is such a good #2. If decker came here I don't think hed put up very good numbers. Its not on him....I don't think Stafford would consistently get him the ball. I think hed be good for about 3 catches a game. WHy? cause staff either locks onto calvin or dumps it down. Decker is great running intermediate routes...which we don't throw many of. That could all change with a new system in place....or maybe that's just what staff is....ill have to wait and see.

You're correct, QBs do impact how WRs are viewed. Stafford made Durham better than he'd ever be. Throwing it accurately does help obviously. But Durham is the worst #2 WR in the league. If the Lions actually get a WR across from Calvin who can get open 1v1, Stafford wouldn't have to throw into such tight windows.

If I had to guess our wide receivers next year. I'd go CJ, Lee, Royal, Ross. Bush/Bell at RB. Grew and Fauria TE. If you can't get it done with that, draft a quarterback.

Dude, why are you even a fan of this team? Im serious, im not fighting with you. NOTHING this team does or potentially could do is good enough. Why consistently beat yourself up over this shit?

If we had these WRs and TEs next year and Stafford didn't play better, then I'd agree. Draft a QB in the 1st or 2nd round of 2015. Although I'd hope Ross was the #5 WR and we had someone a little better at #4 in case someone got injured.

So he had the same system for years, the comfort of the same system, a great passing oline, a complimentary run game for once, a great pass catching rb out of the backfield, and the best wr in the game.....and couldn't get it done. Tonys excuse is he needs more weapons....meaning the only thing hes missing in order to be successful is a #2 wr. Sooooo if he gets a #2 wr and we still don't succeed?...what are the odds we have a new set of excuses for next offseason? lol

Imo he had the division handed to him on a silver platter and had more than enough around him to be successful this year. If we had a QB that played at the level he was getting paid we could focus on the defense this draft/fa and become a complete team. BUUUUUT since he didn't play worth a shit....now we need to add a stud #2 WR to the list of things Stafford needs to become successful in this league.....we'll more than likely oblige and take one early in the draft....again. And we wont be a complete team....again.

so I take it you disagree with me? lol. Sorry, I don't think paying decker a shit ton of money to come here would fix Stafford. Its just what I see...

I agree before that the excuse was Best was out and we need a speed RB. So we got Bush. Now we need a #2, so we'll get that. Like I said if he can't succeed with that and a quarterback friendly coach. It's over.

Burleson is still under contract for another season, if he's willing to take a pay cut and stick around for the vet minimum, he could fill out the depth chart in front of Ross. His numbers coming back from the injury weren't nearly as good, I don't know how much of that was because of the injured forearm or not, but if an off-season to heal can make a considerable difference, he might be worth a look.

We could use some size on that list for sure. Lee, Royal, Ross all relatively short. I did like how Ross performed on offense when they did get the ball in his hands though. That's all you can ask from a 4/rotational. Burleson has to be cut, I like him, but even with a restructure he's going to be dead money. Cut him, he'll clear waivers and bring him back at the vet min. Otherwise he's taking Royal's spot.

If he's willing to stick around for the vet minimum and be a #4 WR, I'd be fine with that. I'm just not sure if he'd be willing to be a #4 WR...

Burleson is one of the most realistic players out there. He took a pay cut this season and already said he would be willing to do it again. Given his dead money, he would have to reduce his salary to 1 million or 940k. Vet min for each player depends how long they have played. His is probably 940k. Full cut saves 5.5 million, pay cut to vet min saves 4.5 million. All depends if they want a new number 3 and 4 and that extra million.

If I were GM I would keep him as the number 4 too and pay him 1 million. He produced this year like a number 3 slot WR for most of his 9 games. He is not a deep threat or TD guy but can get first downs and sneak intermediate sometimes.

If he's willing to stay for $1 million and be the #4 WR, I'd say let's keep him. He knows the system and is a good leader/ energy guy for the team.

He has good leadership qualities. CJ isn't exactly mister expressive.

Staff locks to Calvin because Durham can't get open. Plus people seem to complain when Calvin doesn't get enough targets in game. Durham not open, dump to RBs.

Decker can get better separation. 800 yards at least for Decker in this offense. Burleson was on pace for 800 if he didn't miss 9 games. He produced in 5 out of 7 games. Fauria is the TD guy with Calvin now. Production. Pettigrew had betterhands but needs more separation too.

Be like Denver. Get a Welker and use a new faster TE. They went from good to all time great.
