Congratulations B1G! F@CK ohio

ok, then how about 3 or 4 win MSU and OSU?

or what about the difference between beating a .500 OSU vs beating an undefeated OSU?

I get far more enjoyment from beating them when they are a team that ends up with 2 or fewer losses than when they are a middle of the road team barely getting enough wins to enter a bowl game. and if they win their bowl game, that just makes the in-season victory over them a little sweeter for me.

It's always good to beat MSU and OSU, and of course, the most enjoyable wins over Ohio State were when the winner would end up being the Big 10 Champions; and the next best have been ruining Ohio State's chance at a national championship.

Just even bringing up a scenario where Michigan is in a position to roll a winless Buckeye team like a bully on a playground is silly to me, especially with the way shit has been going lately.

Oh come on man, UM enjoys beating MSU no matter what. Don't pretend you didn't get happy and loved rubbing it in. They are rivals, whether or not they suck. And MSU should enjoy beating down Michigan teams, average Michigan teams, or good Michigan teams. A win is a win.

We aren't talking about the regular season Mitch. This argument is about the Big Ten winning the national title and how it helps the conference. I argue that the conference already did enough, and seeing your rival win the title trumps any small benefit of media props. In fact, this does more to help OSU than the conference as a whole.

If Michigan does what they are supposed to, they'll get in.

a 2 loss OSU would NOT have gotten in over TCU this year. an undefeated TCU would have been in instead of 1 loss OSU as well. no one would have looked at the B1G as being worthy of one of the spots.

now next year, a 1 loss FSU or other ACC team will be the one watching from the outside is my bet. ACC and Big12 I think are only in the playoffs with an undefeated team next year IMO. Now let's go with the possibility both send undefeated teams. That leaves PAC, B1G, and SEC vying for the last 2 spots. which of those 3 get left out, assuming each is sending a 1 loss team as their potential rep? you want to be biased and say the B1G, but if OSU had been blown out by Bama, do you really think the B1G would be invited? they won't leave out the undefeated teams from Big12 or ACC, right? those teams definitely deserve to be in. after OSU's win this year, how much does that increase the chance that the B1G rep is allowed in? kind of have to let the B1G rep in, right? they are the defending NC conference. so that leaves PAC and SEC, which I'm betting the PAC is left out. if Oregon had beaten OSU, then the opposite is likely...that the PAC rep gets in as the defending NC conference while the B1G rep is left out. we all know the SEC bias gets their team in next year in this scenario. So in this scenario, if it is UM serving as B1G rep, they will be in because OSU beat Oregon this year.

Argue this all you want, it nonetheless IS the new face of college football. I didn't make up the rules, I would have skipped the 4 team playoff and gone straight to 8 teams or forced the 5 PCs to restructure into 4 PCs if I had that type of power.

That's fair, but I was having to go to the extreme to make my point due to others saying that to want OSU, or even MSU since they are also a rival, to win even a single game is to be anti-UM. It is less that i want them to win and more that i want to beat them when they are good, but unfortunately that means they have to win games to be good. At the end of the day, the important things is UM winning, not OSU and MSU losing their non-UM games.

going on theory that all 5 PCs submit an undefeated team (or all are 1 loss teams), what is the current conference hierarchy?

with the OSU win over Oregon, it seems to me the hierarchy currently is:
1. B1G
2. SEC
3. PAC
4. Big 12
5. ACC

if OSU had lost to Oregon, I still think SEC remains at #2 due to SEC bias, and B1G goes to #3 despite OSU having beaten Bama.

So again, if Big 12 and ACC have fewer losses than the top 3, then they are in and that leaves the hierarchy of those 3 to play out. I cannot fathom the defending NC conference being left out and SEC bias is too strong still, in fact many would probably still put SEC at #1 despite this year's results.

Its the new college football debate, right? So exciting!

Obviously the system is still broken.

And throw into the mix the mid-conferences when a potential PC rep loses their CCG. That opens another whole degree of wonderment...

Or the goal could just be to win your games and not making any excuses. An undefeated Michigan team will NEVER be left out of the playoff. It's not happening. Ever. It's clear they already have the benefit of the doubt over both the ACC and Big 12, so it's almost a certainty that a 12-1 Michigan team would make it as well.

Zyxt, we get it. We understand the whole "conference perception" argument. Most people don't care because what ****ing good does it do to have the benefit of the doubt if the team you're chasing is getting stronger and you can't best them anyways!? When's the last time Michigan has had five star running backs committing to them in the middle of a game?

Dude, I agree so damn much with every post you've made in this thread I've decided I don't need to post it myself.

Win and everything else falls into place. The whole SEC garbage is to placate the ego of fans who live in a region where CFB is all they have.

Love, the #1 Ranked public U in the country and winningest program in the history of the sport

You never, ever, ever, ever want your rival at the mountain top, whether or not it boosts the conference perception.

The whole conference perception argument just makes me picture Vanderbilt fans chanting "SEC! SEC!".

Still, think presser was unnecessary

Buckeyes saying he was talking about staying in school and used presser to send the message

Still say unnecessary. Not a fourth year guy who already graduated and had a year of eligiblity left and not a projected first rounder

zyxt you continue to push the conference thing saying it helps but do not recognize the downsides are much riskier when trailing the team that wins. Michigan recruits against osu for a lot of recruits. recruits like webber. when osu wins titles they have the upper hand on these recruits which increases their gap. in no way do i see a scenario where the committee looks at a team who is not the defending champion and takes their conference into account except for maybe the sec because of the bias. i just cant see them going "because osu won the championship last year michigan should get in this year." thats like saying if duke only lost 1 game this year they would get in because fsu won it last year. doesnt hold water to me. perception is one thing but your RIVAL winning is far worse considering all the ramifications.

what is with you guys? for all the talk about UM is the best, this sure isn't the attitude of being "best".

to be "the best" you have to beat "the best". either you can and do that, or you don't and are not.

UM is supposed to be about being the Leaders and Best. that is NOT achieved by beating up poor teams. so what if OSU is extremely good right now? that just means UM must work that much harder, have that much more passion, desire, drive, execution, commitment, and more. why would you want OSU to not be on top right now? that pushes UM to be better! game recognizes game...and UM has not had game, but instead of wanting UM to be better, all I hear is about how OSU is too good and damn it I wish they were not.

OSU being at the top right now means UM has to go out and earn the right to call themselves the Best. some of you talk like you want it to just be handed to UM, like the last place kid being handed a participation medal. that is BS talk and a poor mentality to bring to this battle. UM is in transition right now, OSU has set the bar for where UM needs to push themselves to achieve. if UM really is the Best, and you really want UM to be the Best, then you too should be ok with OSU having won the NC...so when UM beats OSU next year, it puts UM at the top of the mountain. I don't want a UM victory over OSU to initiate conversation about whether or not UM should be ranked, I want it to initiate conversation that UM deserves to be ranked #1. if that requires them to beat the best, so be it. the "best" do get beat, it is up to the underdog to figure out how. just go win the ****ing Rivalry now and earn that claim of "The Best". it doesn't do the team any good to have it just handed to them, EARN IT!

some of you talk like you want it to just be handed to UM, like the last place kid being handed a participation medal.

It's the Notre Dame syndrome.
When you are accustom to being great, and you lose it, and you can't get it back... You grasp at straws.
