Could Urban be FIRED?

OK.

But bear in mind public records existed about the events surrounding 2015 Since they occurred anyway
So it’s not like the press didn’t have access to those. The press doesn’t need urban Myers Permission to access the public records, just go see the public records. You are the free press, That’s what you’re supposed to do.
Where was the press back in 2015, not going to urban Meyer and saying “this is the public record of the events surrounding your assistant coach Zak Smith and his wife - Have you address this at all?”
I don’t know why the press is getting around to just asking about this now. It hasn’t been a secret or anything.

Maybe submitting annual FOIA requests about all coaches in the states where they reside, resided, and work should be standard operating procedure by the press.

As it is, I think it wouldn't occur to most people that this kind of conduct would occur - or most would like to think it wouldn't - that highly paid, widely respected individuals entrusted with huge responsibilities would cover for, and enable an abusive shitstain like Zach Smith, and pay him three-hundred sixty thousand dollars ($368,000) a year to handle the awesome responsibility of telling a half-dozen wide receivers how to run routes for barely 6 months out of the year.

The media household income in the US is ~$75,000.

But it should. You're right.

These guys should regularly all be raked over the coals.

Maybe this will start happening more often.

The guy who broke the story only filed the information requests because "someone" tipped him off... he wouldn't say who.

I see that my post #157 says pretty much the same thing as Gulo's post in #156 - I just saw that.

If he should be fired, he should be fired for his lack of action that he should have taken three years ago, not about something he did or didn't disclose to the media this week, three years later.

At Michigan, seems it turns up in the press every time an athlete appears on the police blotter for getting busted blowing weed in alley behind the dormitory.

I have no idea why not a single media outlet that covers the Buckeyes doesn't monitor the police blotter every single day for any police activity regarding members of the various athletic programs.

It seems it happens at other places.

Seems to me, Urbz is putting this on Gene Smith between his statement yesterday and Zak Smith?s saying Gene knew about it.

Can Geno, have NCAA suspend Urbz a few games and live to coach the bucknuts another day.

Not a bad strategy, really. Poll 10 osu fans and they?d take Meyer over the AD any day.

I almost think Meyer is NUTS for putting that statement out yesterday; if anything, Gene Smith did him a favor but not firing him on Thursday, and handing this off to a committee to formally investigate.

But by claiming he told them everything in 2015 (which still doesn't absolve him of knowingly employing an abusive scumbag for 3 more years BTW), he's trying to throw SOMEONE under the bus here, and that someone could only really be the one guy who did him a solid by not firing him already.

Tressel’s scandal broke because it was uncovered in a Federal drug sting

I forget how all that first got publicly released. I definitely remember getting the sense the Feds were none too pleased with the conduct & attitude in the Woody Hayes Athletic Complex toward what their players were doing, and who they were associating with Even though Tressel wasn't directly involved with Eddie Rife.

Zach Smith said in a radio interview that Gene Smith called him in 2015 to discuss the allegations (as Vic pointed out). They probably knew that was going to come out when Urban made his statement.

Know what's occurring to me?

If I'm the president of a major university, or even Ohio State, with a high profile athletic program, I'm gonna just do something like this myself.

I'm gonna set up a liaison to discover any publicly recorded encounters with the law involving anyone associated with the Athletic Department.

This shit shouldn't come from the bottom up through old text messages, and shit.

This shit should be top down through direct contact with law enforcement officials.

Same old same old at The Ohio State University .. They have been cheating for a long time in Columbus .

Part of the discussion on "why don't reporters FOIA universities more" is that university FOIA departments are as obstructionist as they are legally permitted to be. At least Michigan's is.

So just go read the police blotters everyday.

Yes, solid...except three years late.

Where was SI When the very police reports that were cited in Cleveland.com that I had link to in a previous post indicated nine police reports about the events around the 2015 became part of the public record? Cleveland.com is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Cleveland plain dealer, which has been the paper of record in that region for over a century.

Seriously, after watching his interview on ESPN this morning during which he claims that he was just defending himself, it is clear that the guy is not right in his head. Were the threatening texts and stalking defending himself? The guy is mentally and emotionally deluded. Textbook abuser. He is dangerous to his wife and family, and himself.

yeah. His interview directly contradicts his texts. He claims to have never threatened anyone, yet his text say that he is going to **** up his wife's new boyfriend to the point that he can't be recognized. Then he claims to have only defended himself, yet his wife's texts claim another story and his texts are all apologies for his behavior. I'm not buying it.

The OSU mafia got to him, though, and made him an offer he can't refuse. He is no longer saying that he is going to take everyone down with him. They offered him a million dollars and a chance to stay alive and he took it and is now defending himself, the program, and Urban...

They're asking just now, because they just now finally fired the guy
