Esiason on Stafford

So the qualification is a guy you feel is better and a guy you feel would of came here.

I just want you to be realistic. Too much to ask?? RW is a close one, but I don't think he's a better QB. Then you picked Peyton as well. He was NEVER coming here.....I don't care if you made him the richest person in the world, he wasn't coming here. I can pick names to ya know....Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck. See how easy that is? Lol. Realistic? Not so much....

Try again. I'm waiting....

He gave you Wilson.

And I told you how i feel about Wilson. I think the kid is overrated and isn't any better or worse than Stafford. So in MY eyes, RW doesn't count. Capiche?

I understand that YOU don't think he is better...but that doesn't make it true.

Why would peyton never come here? He would get to play in a dome. He would of came to a team that just came off of a 10-6 season, and a Calvin Johnson in his prime.

Instead he chose to play in an outdoor stadium on an 8-8 team? If the Lions would of tried to sign him, he could of very well considered it.

Why would you say he would never come here?

SO if I were to say I think Kirk Cousins is better, does that count as a guy we could of gotten that's better?

Lol I was thinking about listing Cousins here.

The main issue is, we have no idea how any drafted QB would have done here. The NFL is not a vacuum. No one thought Dantonio would be a good coach with MSU. It worked out well with them.

I hate that whole, "Who are you going to get?" mentality? That's the way organizations who are stuck in limbo think. No progressive thought, just status quo.

I was also thinking Cousins but I don't think he has done enough to prove he is better than Stafford. I also thought about Carson Palmer.

Bottom line is Tony asked for one player and Brewer gave him Wilson. I think almost everyone would agree that Wilson is a better QB than Stafford with a few that don't (LKP & Tony)

I thought Palmer, but then I couldn't remember if he has actually ever been a FA. Seems like he just gets traded all the time.

Cousins to me hasn't actually don't enough to prove he is better than Stafford. However they are close. After this year one could pass the other.

I thought he was a FA but I googled it and it was a trade. He was basically traded for a few old footballs!

"As part of the deal, the Cardinals sent the second of their sixth-round picks (176th overall) to the Raiders in exchange for Oakland's seventh-round pick (219th overall). In addition, the Raiders will receive a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 draft if Palmer starts 13 games for Arizona in 2013, a league source told ESPN."

But isn't that a problem?? Cousins has been in the league for 4 years, and only really a full-fledged starter for all 16 in one year, and he's already in the conversation.

That is an issue, but not really related to this IMO. Tony was looking for players that are clearly better than Stafford that we could of gotten. Really only Wilson fits that description. Manning was a FA that was clearly better, but Stafford was coming off his best year in 2011 and had contract issues, so the Lions wouldn't even been considering manning at that time.

Now if the questions was name a player that could of been as good as Stafford, you could of reached into a bag and had a handful of medicore guys.

He made it pretty clear he was not going to play for a NFC team

Manning was a guest on KKFN-FM in Denver on Thursday, and he put to bed the myth he didn't want to sign with an NFC team because his brother, Eli, plays for the New York Giants.

"Well, that's not true, because obviously when I was talking to San Francisco, they asked me that," Manning said (via SportsRadioInterviews.com). "And I wouldn't have told them that I could possibly be interested if that were the case. Obviously I know that San Francisco is in the NFC."

Hey, you can pick whoever you want! Lol. Doesn't mean I have to agree with it. You want to go Cousins...fine, but i'd like to see more from the guy. Not a bad choice though, but i'm going to disagree with ya again....

But its a legitimate question though, man. Who should we get or should we have taken instead? You can't ignore that.....

I don't think it is a legitimate question when you won't even consider Russell Wilson as a hypothetical answer.

Russell Wilson is not a viable candidate IMO. After being hurt in 2009 and 2010, Stafford puts up monster numbers in 2011 and maintained his health. So, Detroit is going to use their second round pick to draft a QB in 2012? That is what it would have taken to move ahead of Seattle to draft Wilson. No logic there.

It was a hypothetical question. Who was available that is better than Stafford that the Lions could have had. Wilson is the answer.

Well then hypothetically the Lions have a billion dollars in cap space, 32 first round picks, and can trade for all the lineman they want, plus the best trainer in the history of the world who can get Manning back to full health...and that billion will sign him.

So, yes, Manning is a viable option...hypothetically.

Please.
