Fielder: Needs reality check

Sandoval at 275 and 240. Prince at 240 would make a positive difference.

Yet Sandoval was the MVP of the series and batted .500, who played good defense. Prince isn't going on a fn diet for fk sakes.

Did he play like shit through the playoffs and stink up the joint in the series? Absofnlutely. Oh well, time to move on and work on next year. Go get a second baseman, maybe an outfielder and work on that disgusting bullpen.

You're right. i don't know that Cabrera would've been a worse 3rd baseman if he carried 30 pounds of lard this season. That's why everyone in the world said that Cabrera would need to lose some weight in the offseason if he wanted to make a successful transition to 3rd base from first base. I guess they're all stupid.

You mentioned the triple crown which is I why I posted what I did. How did weight loss help him win a triple crown? If you think he helped him play 3rd than just post about that and not bring up his offense.

I mentioned triple crown AND probable MVP

Isn't that what I said?

Prince has not performed well in the playoffs in his career. He is a career .183 hitter in the postseason 19-104 (3 years he been in the playoffs - 6 series). He's always been a poor fielder. I don't think losing weight is going to make him better in that department. The guy hustles more than any "big guy" star player I can think of.

Yep. You're probably right. Prince isn't going to lose any weight. He isn't going to work out. He thinks he's great and has no room for improvement. Hell, he'll probably pig out and come in at around 325 next year and some people on this board probably will think that doesn't matter or might even be a good thing.

It didn't help Cabrera? Can you prove that? He lost like 30 pounds over the offseason. What would his play at 3rd base have been like if he didn't do that? Can you tell me that? He just completed a triple crown and probable MVP season after he got in better condition. You don't think it had anything to do with being in better shape? I think you might be insane.

Because he performed just as well in 2010 and 2011 as he did in 2012.

Triple Crown is nice and all, but it wasn't even Cabreras best offensive season.

Does no one remember watching Cabrera run bases in 2011? Remember in the world series when Cabrera got gunned down from right field trying to score on a potential sac fly in the ALCS? Remember several singles that he hit last year that any person with normal speed could've stretched into a double? Doubles that could've been stretched into triples? Well, what did Cabrera do? He dropped about 30 pounds of fat and gained about 10 pounds of muscle...exactly what we're suggesting Prince do this offseason. This year many of those potential doubles were doubles. Heck, I even remember Miggy stealing a base or 2. Pop flies to center? Miggy scores from 3rd easily this season. I don't know how any sane person can look at Prince Fielder and not think that he needs to lose some weight aka get in better shape and furthermore, I don't know how any sane person could not think that getting in better shape would improve his all-around play.

Does batting average change when a player settles for a single that could have been a double? Nope. I'd sure as hell rather have the double, though. You think Prince scores easily from third on potential sac flies in the condition that he's in? Hell no. Yes, losing some weight would increase his speed. This is obvious stuff and we can look at Miguel Cabrera 2011 and Cabrera 2012 as the perfect example.

Cabrera had more 2B in 2010 and 2011 than this year.

But he didn't need to lose that weight to play first.

Now you're doing exactly what everyone else is doing. Some of us are saying he doesn't necessarily need to lose weight, but you're adamant he does. Who's right and who's wrong? The man has been a beast since he's walked onto a baseball diamond. He's averaged 36 HR's, 107 RBI's with a .287 BA in 8 years as a pro. Yeah, weight is his issue. Priceless!!

he didn't play 3rd in 2010 or 2011, so I dont know how you can compare his fielding. Everyone in the world said he would need to lose weight to play 3rd. he did and he was decent at 3rd. Why would they say that if it they were all wrong?

He was a better base runner in 2012 than he was in 2010 and 2011. You could see that he had more speed, more speed coming home from 3rd on sac flies, more speed going from 1st to 3rd on singles. more speed scoring from 2nd on singles. did I just imagine all of this?

But he didn't win those because of loss weight. He had a great 2010 and 2011.

I doubt his fielding would've been as good this year if he still had the extra weight.

His fielding at first wasn't that good in 2010 or 2011 either.

I don't know how any sane person can look at Fielder and think his weight is OK.

"well, as long as he keeps hitting .315, he can be as fat as he wants"

Dude, he can be 4fuckin50 for all I care. If he can still hit .300, drive in 100, hit 30HRs and plays 162 games, that's all that matters.

Yep, rbi, hr's, and ba are the only things that matter in baseball.

Priceless!

Who cares if he's fat? Why do you even care actually? Are you into skinny dudes? The guy hits .315 and is fat, you have an issue? Makes no fn sense.

so we don't care about runs? we don't care about errors? Damn, did I imagine all the talk on this board about this team's poor defense? which Prince is one of the worst defenders at first base? I just can't believe that some think that him losing 30 pounds wouldn't help him field better.

Yeah, I'm attracted to skinny dudes. What a stupid comment.

I don't expect him to be skinny. Being 250 would be skinny? Are you into fat dudes? You must be. You must be sexually attracted to fat dudes. That's it.

BA is the only thing that matters in baseball. I learn something new everyday.
