Game 15: Lions @ Bears Thread

Yep, can happen.

Say you were to bet $5000, can put it on #1 and #2 seed or #5 and #6 to win superbowl. Which would you choose?

#1 and #2.....not my point though.

Just agreeing with the "any given Sunday" theory. Happens all the time in the NFL.

That said, Seattle at home is going the be a tough fuckin out!

Yes, it is. I am not looking forward to that one.

2007 New York Giants

+22 Differential (373 For....351 Against)

Beat one of the 5 best teams OF ALL TIME in the Super Bowl.

Any Given Sunday.

didn't they beat them in the regular season too though? we got smoked by the pats in the regular season.

Pats beat the Giants 38-35 in the final regular season game to finish their 16-0 season in '07.

Every team that makes the playoffs has a chance...but not all teams have an equal chance. The better teams have a better chance. Those teams that have a bye have a better chance. Anything can happen but the best teams usually are the ones to make it to the Super Bowl.

ill tell you why we don't have an equal chance. Lombardi is awful. His entire offense is 7 yard slant, poorly executed screen pass, run, 7 yard slant, poorly executed screen pass, run, 7 yard slant....

sometimes he REALLY opens it up and does a 9 yard slant!!!! fucking ridiculous how shitty our ocord is. Its like watching a guy play maddedn and all he does is go no huddle and use his 4 audibles the entire game.

Disagree again. Wild Card teams go to the Bowl a lot. The "best" teams don't usually make it, the hottest teams do.

Right now I'd say the two hottest teams in the NFC are Dallas and Seattle, the lions are looking very fortunate to keep winning close games againts ave at best teams, not the picture of confidence ya wanna see at this time

ahhh..so it was a close game. remind me what the score was when we played them?

Are you really trying to make a comparison to the Giants hanging close to the pats SEVEN years ago.. to this year's Pat's team and this year's Lions team?

Is that a corollary here?

Dude, that may actually be the thinnest argument you have ever made, and these days, a lot of your negativity is based on really thin arguments. You have outdone yourself if that was your intent.

all "confidence" goes out the window if we go into GB and get blown the fuck out.

I agree completely. I am not in any way saying the Lions are among the hottest teams right now.

I am saying momentum is everything in the playoffs. The 2012 Ravens lost 4 out of their last 5 games, but got hot in the playoffs and rolled all the way to a championship.

The first playoff game is a big reset button. There are 12 teams with 0-0 records before that first game starts, and it's anyone's season, but one loss sends you home.

im sorry...I thought you guys were making a comparison of "any given sunday" by bringing up a game 7 fucking years ago lol....but put the blame for a dumb argument on me?! lol

I thought hay why not join in this dumb conversation and remind everyone that the giants already played the pats and played them well. We got the shit beat out of us by a "good" pats team this year so I wasn't sure how good of an example it was.

Ill keep saying it....1 win vs teams over .500 this year. 1.

more often than not this year we won....a lot more often. that's a good thing.

but more often than not we played like shit almost the entirety of the game. that's not good. and when mainstream media gives us no love to win anything and doesn't give us a "any given sunday" chance....it will be justified.

Again, and it's been said a lot in this thread... I am not arguing that the Lions will win a title. Shit, I don't buy that for a minute. I'm going to enjoy every minute of the playoffs I can, all six of them.

I am saying that ANY team in the playoffs has as good a chance as any other team, and the stats and math back that statement up.

Every year there are upsets, which is why every year unexpected teams play in the SuperBowl.

If you make the playoffs, your odds are the same as everyone else. Your talent may be superior or inferior, but that doesn't seem to matter when just as many Wild Card teams ar winning over a 20 year period as #1 seeds.

Just have to keep hoping the offense gets thier shit togeather, all we can do.. 11-4 is fantastic and I'm happy about that, it would be so much more enjoyable however if they actually had an offense that looked liked it could be counted on in the playoffs at least a little bit at which they don't..very disappointed with what Lombardi turned that offense into, it's terrible and disgusting. Defense wins championships! Let's hope that extends to defense wins championships even when the offense plays with both hands tied behind their backs

our offense figures out how not to be so predictable in 2 weeks and we have a good shot with this defense. But ive been waiting 16 weeks for that to happen so the odds on us are we either squeak out some wins in the playoffs or we get smoked. There were 2 weeks in a row that I thought...g...maybe theyre starting to figure it out. Then big picture you realize going back all the way to the Arizona game...that's only 2 weeks out of 6 that they've played well. today was an absolute pathetic showing for the offense.

First off, I am agreeing with you. The offense, as it is right now, will not allow this team to advance in the playoffs.

However, the improvement doesn't have to be THAT great.

No turnovers. Sustain a few drives. No special teams mistakes. Make your field goals. Let the defense do what it does without puting them in terrible positions.....

All that could lead to a playoff win.....or two!

That 2007 Giants team didn't score more than 24 points in ANY of their four playoff games.

Schwartz drafted Stafford, and most of the guys on offense were either drafted or signed by him, and that's the only coach the offense has known.

Caldwell is supposed to be some genius with QBs, as is Lombardi.

I can't imagine it's easy to tear down someone's muscle memory in a season and rebuild what you want. I have zero experience to stand on that statement, it just seems logical to me.

For years we've heard about Matt's terrible footwork, terrible arm angles, Matt's decision making skills, etc.. I wouldn't imagine they can change all that in one season and have the second coming of Peyton Manning in the end.

I'm willing to give Lombardi another year with the offense and see if that rocket takes off. I don't expect this offense to make even a deep run this year, and we will see a lot of new faces on defense next year, so I don't expect the draft will help much either.

But another year of working could show real improvement... or I could be way wrong.

The Lions will be playing the Packers next Sinday @ frigid Lambeau on the final game of the regular season for the 4th time in the past 10 years...WTF? This will also be the 9th time in December or January ('00, '02, '04-08, '12, 14) for the Lions @ Lambeau since the turn of the century, vs only once indoors (12/11/10) @ Ford Field.

its easy to see (for everyone but lkp) that Stafford has been struggling to grasp this offense. But that doesn't excuse the fact Lombardi has been horrible. Again...there is VERY elementary stuff were not doing like trying to run the ball on 2nd and 10 with a 6 man box. But then hell pound it vs 8 man fronts lol.

Lombardi talked about dumbing down the offense a couple weeks ago....well it looks pretty dumb alright....alignments are giving plays away instead of disguising them (every tate screen). Calvin literally ran the same 7 yard route the entire game today lol....sure, it worked great for 2 qtrs....but when they adjusted why do we continue to do the same thing over and over and over? its ridiculous...

Stafford is below average this year....but Lombardi is a big part of that.
