Greatest Leftfielder of All Time

You can't assume Thomas was a roid user because other players were. That makes no sense.

You just want to put roids on everyone else so you can validate Bonds 21st century numbers.

A pre-steroid Bonds is at worst number 2 on this list. Earlier I read someone say they'd pick Yaz over Bonds. Any GM in the entire history of baseball who would choose Yastremski over Bonds would be fired the next day for incompetence, even if he were standing in the middle of Beacon Hill at the time.

With his 1990 numbers, sure (regard to yaz,'not 2 overall IMO). I wonder though if Bonds hadn't taken roids maybe his career would had ended short because of injuries and other stuff. And he wouldn't be talked about so much. I don't think anyone argues that pre roid he was a great player but if he hadnt used, what if. What if his numbers fell, like Frank Thomas numbers fell.

The season before everybody thinks he started using (1999), he was 33 years old. He hit 37 HRS, had 122 RBI, stole 28 bases, and won a gold glove (but wait, he only got that because nowadays they give them to all the great hitters, guess that explains why Miggy's got so many).

Call me crazy, but I don't think he was going to turn into Joe Charboneau, even if he'd stayed clean.

Well no. Maybe he puts up 1000 OPS but not 1379, 1381 and 1422. I mean come on.

Yet no GM in baseball offered bonds a contract the year after he broke Aarons HR record.

That means they picked EVERY SINGLE OTHER RIGHT-FIELDER over Bonds.

Nobody got fired for it.

I don't mean a 43-year-old Bonds, as he was in 2008. I mean a pre-Roids, in-his-prime Bonds. Think 1990-1998.

However, I'd stack a 43-year-old Bonds over a 43-year-old Yaz any day. Or 33. Or 23.

On second thought, I apologize, Thumb. You've just proven Magglio Ordonez was a better overall player than Barry Bonds, because the Tigers preferred Maggs as their rightfielder in 2008. I feel so foolish.

Austin Jackson is better than Willie Mays, because the Tigers didn't want Mays to play center for them in 2011.

Oh by the way, if a 43-year-old Bonds had played LF for the Tigers in 2008, he would've been twice as good as the shit the Tigers threw out there that season.

I'm still shaking my head over that one. I say if any GM were picking an all-time team and it came to LF and the choices were Yaz and Bonds and they'd choose Bonds, and you bring up that a 43-year-old Bonds wasn't wanted in 2008. Utterly amazing.

I'm not out to "prove" anything.

You said any GM that took Yaz over Bonds would be fired the next day, which is a hypothetical you have no way to prove, kinda like saying Batman would beat Spiderman in a fight.

So I just took your logic to say that naturally any GM not picking Bonds over someone of equal or lesser value than Yaz would be fired, yet no GM wanted him (43 years old or not he could still hit correct?) and none got fired.

Now why don't you think up some more wild hypothetical situations.

And your Austin Jackson/Willie Mays example is a poor attempt to save face, and totally irrelevant.

How do you know this?

Oh, that's right, you don't.

You're just assuming, which is a totally proven method right?

For all you know Bonds could have torn his ACL in ST, oops...there I go assuming...

Any GM would be fired for taking a prime Yaz over a prime Bonds. No GM would be fired for passing on a 43-year-old still-good-but-past-his-prime player who would be a PR nightmare if he came to your team. Two totally different statements.

Any GM would be fired if they took a prime Reggie Jackson over a prime Babe Ruth. That statement isn't nullifed just because no one wanted Ruth in 1936.

And Batman would kick Spiderman's ass.

C'mon, Thumb, he wouldn't have been better than Marcus Thames? And of course he could've torn his ACL. But you could say that about anybody. There'd be no debates if we could just say that.

Hey, I'm kind of new here--how do you reply to someone's email so it goes in the box with your reply goes right below it, like you did in your last message?
