Houston Released

Agreed, I was glad to see them sign him last year, only to completely change my mind over the course of last year. I expect to see the same with Mathis this year. Out with the old, in with the new.

they cut him due to injuries and the fact that he could get up to 100% healthy

No. They cut him to save money and because he wasn't any good. Just because he was injured don't assume he's still injured.

We got him cheap, the saving grace of the deal. He was never a number one, and he looked better because the rest of the secondary wasn't very good.

For two years he didn't get offers and that's why we signed him on the cheap..nonetheless he was a horrible resign. Good fuckin' riddance.

It's a fact Houston is still injured Mitch. He just had surgery.

I'm sure the Lions have a little bit more medical information than your "gut feeling"

He did get offers from Miami and Patriots in the 3 day grace period. Lions signed him before free agency opened in 2013. Crowded market in 2013 too. 2011 was the shortened offseason due to the CBA. At that point he only had a solid 2010 and years of suck with Atlanta. Good deal at the time and proper to cut him if he can't stay healthy.

The toe wasn't his only injury. Hamstring before the toe last year. Knee problems in 2011 and 2012 and a shoulder injury in the playoff game. Houston has missed plenty of time. This an availability and cap cut, not talent.

Still doesn't change the fact that Chris Houston was the worst cb in the league last year, and playing terribly before his injury

It was just as obvious that Caldwell didn't want him around..He made that clear months ago.

You realize he had a hamstring injury starting in Week 4. Oh of course you didn't. His bad play was all injury from Week 5 and beyond.

Suck, suck and suck. Those were the reasons..otherwise Broyles would be gone.

Now think. Think really really hard why Broyles and Greenwood are still here and those other three are not. I know you can do it. Rack that tiny brain of yours.

Injury+what

Money/cap number. Broyles and Greenwood still cheap. You can keep cheap injured players. They are still worth the money. Injured players with big cap numbers you don't want to keep

Broyles injury+can't play+no talent..so sure let's waste a roster spot.

Nate was not injured when he was let go..neither was Houston.

you don't cut your "#1 cb" because of a toe injury he had surgery on 5 months ago. A lot of people aren't 100% healthy. Ansah isn't 100% healthy....are we going to cut him today? Ansah wasn't 100% healthy last year either. They didn't cut Houston because of a toe injury....anyone that believes that is completely out of touch with reality.

Best sentence of this thread goes to hughes. Imo, Houston became expendable, due to his age/declining skillset.

Houston had surgery mid May. Not 5 months ago. Looks like hughes is the one out of touch with reality.

They thought it would heal, it didn't so they cut him. His cap number didn't justify the injury.

Nope it was the worst sentence. As always hughes doesn't have his facts straight.

He had surgery mid May people

The stupidity by you all on this board astounds me. It really does

Nate missed 16 of the last 32 games. He was an injury cut. He produced on the field per game. And Nate is hurt right now. He reinjured his arm

your stupidity is awe inspiring. I appreciate reading your posts on salary numbers and such, but your kool aid is fucking sickening. YOU DO NOT CUT YOUR "#1" CORNER FOR A MINOR TOE SURGERY, regardless if it was May, or if he had surgery last night. I was on the Houston bandwagon, I thought he would come back a little stronger this year. But after the cut, all that says is he is garbage. otherwise you IR him. All parties knew it was coming otherwise he would have been at the facility learning the defense, and not that BS excuse that was reported.

Yes Hughes gets the award for best sentence, and you have the award for biggest Homer.

The timing matters big time if he goes into the season. Houston might not have been able to play a snap anyway. Why keep him if he is not going to play. You get rid of him for cap space if he's not going to play. We'll see if he is in a training camp or playing Week 1.

Slay and Mathis have the talent to get it done. They wanted cap space and it's not a minor toe surgery. Foot injuries are one of the hardest to overcome. Remember the Kevin Jones lisfranc stuff.

Plus Houston doesn't fit the scheme as well. Houston can cover when healthy and has speed but he can't press well. With Slay and Mathis we can move on. None of this means they think Houston sucks. Just that he can't play due to injury and wanted cap room. It's unfortunate for the team but again, the right call at the time

If Houston plays Week 1 or is in TC for a team I'll admit I was wrong. But if he plays well then you have to admit you were wrong on Houston's skillset and talent.

It looks like I can't be wrong
If Houston can't play due to injury, I'm right
If Houston does come back and plays well for someone, I was right about his talent and skillset all along.
