Iglasias fight

The Detroit Tigers Clubhouse Is A Disaster.
from mcbtb

Today is was reported that Iglesias also had problems with teammate Dustin Pedroia while he was a member of the Boston Red Sox. The always flashy Iglesias seems to be just as ****y on the field as he is off it.

The latest issues with Iglesias may be something Dave Dombrowski was already aware of before he was let go last week. People had no idea why he traded closer Joakim Soria for a short stop prospect JaCoby Jones from Pittsburgh, but now maybe he knew of the troubles he could cause.

This is exactly why these things should be addressed behind closed doors and not in the dugout.

Where is the quote from Pedroia if this is the case? Media is going to stir the pot so they can sell.

I looked for it....don't know if it's out anywhere. Never heard or remember any mention of it before the Tigers got him or after.

Exactly.

I am not discounting that Iglesias is ****y or shouldn't have been approached by someone. But not it the dugout. You either take him back to the clubhouse or you wait after the game. A "rookie" mistake I guess.

That dugout incident was patta-cake compared to the fights that rage in this forum.

Same here,All I could find is that the two were pretty good friends and that Pedroia would even mentor him.

Agreed. A Sports Reporter who cites no sources is not a reporter at all, just a gossip columnist.

I heard this on the radio yesterday too, so maybe there is more to it. They were saying that Iggy was a ****y showboat in Boston, but Pedroia took him under his wing and the two are now close.

Yet with no sources still. Rumors spread like a fart in a car, all it takes is one person to say something (true or not) a few other to pick it up and pass it on and it suddenly is accepted as fact.

The fact that Iglesias said "I did what I was supposed to do" and that he was completely fine with the whole thing tells me all I need to know about him. I guess this explains why Boston was so eager to trade him.

Yes, we all know your opinion on him. Even before the dugout indecent.

Of course 99% of your opinions and prediction of him have been wrong, but that's another thread.

Boston traded Iggy because they felt that Bogaerts would be better all around shortstop after the attempt to play XB at third failed them.

What about his mediocre fielding percentage? He's made 10 errors this season.. not really "gold glove" caliber like everyone says. He's basically Inge at Shortstop. Good for flashy plays, but not reliable.

Ozzie Smith has double digit errors 15 times in his career. Many were over 20. The good ones have incredible range that they get credit with a few errors.

Ozzie Smith is Inge I guess :lmao:

In-fact of all his years where he played full time, only one year was less than 10.

Lol.

Another tidbit, Smith career FLD% is .978, very good for a flashy, rangy SS. Iggy, .980. Just to keep it in perspective. Inge never played SS.

Crickets.

Here's an ESPN article on Pedroia saying Iglesias needs to get better, how he's a hard worker, etc. from December 2012...

http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story...-endorses-stephen-drew-believes-jose-iglesias

Boston Globe article from February 2013 about Pedroia mentoring Iglesias...

There are plenty more available with a simple Google search. I don't know if Iggy's attitude prompted Pedroia's mentoring, but it appears that they are close and that Pedroia helped him out a lot.

Where in those articles did it say anything about clubhouse issues between Iglesias and Pedroia?

Direct quote from the article: "Today is was reported that Iglesias also had problems with teammate Dustin Pedroia while he was a member of the Boston Red Sox. The always flashy Iglesias seems to be just as ****y on the field as he is off it."

I think you are thinking of oranges when we're talking about apples.

BTW...

He's already at 15 infield hits, only 2 less then 2013's career high.

Look at my earlier post. I said that I also heard on the radio that Iggy was a ****y showboat in Boston and that Pedroia took him under his wing, not that he had issues with Pedroia. Not sure if the radio guys were basing their statement off the quote in your article or their own research/knowledge/sources.

The articles I linked seem to support at least the part about Pedroia mentoring Iggy. Now, the reason he needed mentoring from a vet might be in question, but there's a decent likelihood that it's for the reasons we have all seen... Iggy can be a bit of a showboat and doesn't seem too eager to take direction from certain teammates. From what I've observed and heard, he seems to have respect for very good veterans like Pedroia, Miggy, etc., but not so much for guys like McCann. Read into it whatever you want, but don't mistake my words or say stupid shit like "it's completely unsubstantiated", because at least part of the story clearly is... all over the place on the web from the 2012-2013 timeframe.

Also, don't forget about the Red Sox dugout issues that were present when Iglesias was a rookie. That was the time where Lester and others were said to be drinking and eating fried chicken during games, Francona was popping pills and living in a hotel while his marriage was on the rocks, the Valentine was brought in and it turned into an even bigger shit show. Is it out of the realm of possibility to think Iglesias might have had an attitude or a dust up with someone back then too? Those Sox teams in 2011 and 2012 were a mess, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that anybody on them was arguing or handling things poorly.
