Is Stafford a top 5 QB?

Maize&Cheese304 said:
A shocking stat to me. Lions avg 4.3yrds rushing. So they aren't as bad as they seem at it. They just don't do it.

Also. Giants have the worst rushing attack, but Eli is having his best season. Explain that one lol

They're averaging that much because defenses don't expect them to run.

Because they don't run it lol. I guess it makes sense. They have fell behind in the 1st half how many times. Which leads to stafford having to throw it so much.

You could make the argument that becuase the running game is not feared and teams KNOW its pass pass pass most of the time that its even more impressive, they know we'z passing and they still can't stop it, however having said that IMO I think Stafford struggles when teams D's mix it up and disguise coverages, he looks like a lost & confused out there when that happens. Improve on that in the years to come and top 5 eh, maybe #1

Staff looks like he learns quickly. That's all I gotta say on that.

Still nobody answered my question. If a better running game automatically makes your passing game better, then why is eli having his best year when the running game is at its worst.

2009 eli was better..his last game brought his numbers down to about normal eli numbers..you never know with him..he could throw a couple more 3 int games..and his numbers currently are not really THAT much better..

and noone said it automatically makes it better..but it definately helps when you can run the ball and mix it up...i know you like to point out staff's ypa..but part of that is because he makes alot of shorter throws to basically act as our run game sometimes..its sad i know

Not sad. The games changing. Packers throw short passes the same way because of the lack of running

My top ten:
Brady
Rodgers
Brees
Eli
Stafford
Schaub
Rivers
Roethlisberger
Ryan
Romo

I don't think he is top 5 yet unless we're going purely on this season. I am just overjoyed that we have a QB that is legit and improving.

In another year or two, if he stays healthy and get's a little more accurate, then I would definitely put him top 5.

My current top 5:
Rodgers
Manning
Brees
Brady

~slight dropoff~

Rivers

[quote="Maize&Cheese304":6irkzyop]Does everybody forget Brees throwing 22ints? Lol. Rivers has an off year and makes him a scrub I guess.

I always thought Rivers as top 3. Before this season I went Manning, Brady and Rivers. Yeah so i didn't put Rodgers and Brees top 3, lol. I do now at least until next year. [/quote:6irkzyop]

Rivers has looked real real good since floyd, jackson and gates all have returned. Mathews is carrying the ball well now too and went over 1k for the year last game. Theyre putting it all together just in time for the lions which have most of their secondary on the injury report and a dline that has been underperforming....makes for a scary game. Dline has to put pressure on rivers all day....could happen with their make shift oline. Nobody on this board wanted Gaither....now watch him dominate us next week lol.

I'll eat the crow on Gaither...didn't think he would hold up physically but he has been excellent for the Chargers.

3 games...no sacks or hits given up by him.

Stop acting like a moron. Anybody who is anybody KNOWS that having a solid run game HELPS your passing game. It's common knowledge. Don't be stupid about it for fuck sakes.....jeez.

As for Eli? He's playing smarter this year...end of story.

Same reason everyone's passing across the board, more protection for the QB and rules that favor passing.

Is your opinion that running game has no direct correlation to a passing game?

All I know is as long as he stays healthy we finally have a QB that can cause defenses fits. He is accurate most of the time. He has a cannon for an arm and even after all his injuries he isnt afraid to take a hit to complete the pass. This year he has proven we made the right choice.

No. I don't see why you guys think its a fact that with a better running game, stafford would put up the same numbers or better.

He would probably have a better %, and yards per attempt. But I don't see him still throwing 4500yrds and 35tds.

Then drop it because we're not wasting our time explaining it to ya. You don't get it....good for you. At least i'm not expalining it.....

Packers running game is down this year, and rodgers numbers are up. Weird.

Stafford would be more effecient, but not as big of numbers.
