Lions signed DE Israel Idonije

We haven't had a good O-line since before Barry was drafted, and yet when we make changes, people seem to think we've gone backwards?

Even if they are complete shit, they won't be any worse than the complete shit that's gone to the playoffs. If they are a hair above shit, we've improved. If they are mediocre, there's nothing to complain about.

Exactly!! People have been calling for Petermans, Cherilus' and Backus' head for years now. Makes zero sense to bitch or 'wonder' if the new regime works or not. Are people going to complain when Dom is gone? On this forum....yeah, from some people..lol.

Ill start by saying we didn't really "make changes." Backus unexpectedly retired and goz signed elsewhere. The only "changes" they chose to make was not not resign Peterman...which was a good move.

Gosder hasn't been the best and is probably most well known for his false starts and stupid personal fouls. But atleast hes been on the field.....fox has set a world record for miles riden on a bike the last 3 years.

Warford should be an upgrade over Peterman.

Reiff will have a hard time being as consistent as backus was and I still think hes a better fit at RT. Just about every single person had us taking joeckel or fisher at 5.....and I can almost guarantee we would have selected one of them if they were there at 5. So I don't really wana hear from anyone that Reiff is the LT of the future....he almost got replaced before his time even started.

"making changes" would be getting rid of Crayola....but hes still there...sucking.

Entire season hangs on Staffords production....and staffirds production will heavily be skewed based on how this unit comes together. If anyone thinks weve got reggie bush and a new look defense so all of a sudden were going to run the ball well and stop people from scoring.....well you must be a new lions fan.

One thing is for sure....if they did "make all these changes" and we still cant run for a lick then what ive been saying for 10 years will now be true more than ever....you will never be able to run the ball with raoila on the line. He cant hold the point and the people next to him automatically suffer from it.

They made good changes. Even if they aren't as good as last year's team by playing together a 2nd, 3rd, 4th year they could be good. Still need a RT and C, IMO.

Even if they run block exactly like last year's low bar, I think Bush can make teams pay more than LeShoure and Bell in terms of longer runs. We won't be a great or even good running team but average running team(4.1 YPC like last year) with some longer runs mixed in will help the Lions greatly.

The Lions know how to get by without a running game by now too. It's one reason they signed Bush (receiving). 2011 they didn't exactly run the ball well.

DE play
Safety play
run offense
run defense
turnovers allowed (less than 33 by 10 would be nice)
turnovers forced ( more 17 and more than 4 short fields)
4th Quarter pass defense
special teams costing 2 games

They don't all need to be fixed to win. Pick 2 areas and the Lions win alot more games with Stafford moving the chains well, 17 rushing TDs and Stafford up to 30 TDs.

2011 DE play, turnovers forced and 4th Quarter defense was the key to 10 wins mixed with Stafford. 2011 the run game lacked other than a handful of games (Bears/Panthers), secondary stunk last 6 games, no run defense, poor discipline, gave up some special teams returns (2 TDs, 2 other longer ones ending in 10 points, plus Logan muff for TD against Falcons).

Coming back 21 down 3 times were the keys to 10 wins. After that 5-0 start they played 500 ball and couldn't beat good teams. Its not 2011 anymore, not 2012 either, I'm expecting somewhere in between.

Its why they drafted guys like Ansah and Taylor. Also, going after guys like Idonije and Jones in FA. They got MUCH bigger up front and by doing so, they should be able to play the run better...

What about eric winston? With stafford's extension, do they have enough to.sign him to be detroit's starting right tackle

After the 5-0 start they didn't have Best. We have Bush. After the 5-0 start the entire secondary got hurt for the final 6 games facing good passing teams(Saints, Pack twice) for a 3-3 finish. After the 5-0 start Logan muffed a punt giving the Falcons 7 in a 7 point loss and they didn't call an obvious block in the back on Ginn's big return plus a misspot of 5 yards(how does this happen) giving the 49ers 7.

The Lions have improved from that 2011 team. Better secondary (Quin and Slay), better discipline, Bush for 16 games over Best for 5.75 games, Logan/Peterman gone, Fairley not battling a foot injury and new and improved DEs that could maybe stop the run. The tackles didn't exactly protect Stafford in 2011 if you are worried about Reiff/Fox.

They have almost 5 million in space now so yes. But they could save that money and carry over for next year. When they'll need it more. But I like Winston. I kind of want to see what Fox can do but I would understand the Winston signing. He has 3 solid to good years of Right Tackle play in Houston/KC.

I thought Winston was still in Houston?

Most of that OL is overhauled. Thats 'changes' wether you want to believe it or not, man

Kc last year. He has done well last 3 years. I would take him or fox but I like Winston's experience obviously. Good in both run and pass block

reiff sat behind backus last year. fox sat behind goz for years. Soooooo 1 of 2 things are happening:

1) our back ups are now starting due to backus retiring and goz wanting nothing to do with the lions

or

2) reiff and fox were being stashed on the bench in fear that our oline might actually do better and our coaches are the most moronic people on the planet.

Like I said....the only change they made is replacing Peterman with warford. Reiff and fox were on the roster already and didn't play.

Oh...lol. Dumbest thing ive read in a while now. Call it what you want, buddy but having 3 starters on our OL either retire, leave the team thru FA or get released is CHANGE.

Now drafting a Guard, signing veteran OL and replacing players with current Lions OL is considered CHANGE. Who cares if Reiff, Fox or Hilliard were on the team last year? Its a new regime and things are changing on this OL wether you think so or fn not.

So, according to Hughes.....if Stafford were to retire tomorrow and we went with Hill this year....there would be no "change" at QB because Hill is currently on the roster?

WOW!

Dude is in la la land somewhere with Chico and Hoopster.

LMFAO. Just because they were young developing backups last year doesn't mean they are worthless or it was a bad coaching decision to not play them. Backus and Gosder certainly earned the start and played well enough. Reiff played well too when given the chance. The Lions could have had 4 good tackles on the team last year. Backups replace starters all the time. Especially 1st round picks often in year 2. Look at the Steelers with Cameron Heyward and Ziggy Hood at DE and Mike Adams at LT waiting until year 2.

Reiff sucked vs Houston. He needs to improve big time from that performance. You're out to lunch if you don't think this line posses the biggest question marks for the upcoming season.

Reiff did not suck vs Houston. He did a solid job in pass pro and the Lions ran the ball well. 2 bigget runs of the year for a TD. Over 30 points from the offense. I'll take that suck any day.

1 hit and 3 hurries only on 63 pass plays is a solid day. He also played 32 pass pro snaps and gave up 3 hurries against Green Bay.

The line is a questionmark but there is just as much if not more talent there now starting. And they made due in 2011 with less than stellar tackle play.
