Lions wanted Ahgolor

Best played 22 games without getting hurt again. He had his head slammed off the turf. Best was a stud talent. We needed a great RB talent like that in 2010. End of 1st using your 2nd and 4th round value is when you take that risk. Helped us for playoffs in 2011. Great pick by Mayhew with bad luck.

Get a concussion, chance goes up 10 fold you'll get a 2nd. And a 3rd..he gambled and lost big time. Of course the only people that don't know that our you and Mayhew..not shocked of course.

Ernie Sims had a ton in college and never got one again. Each guy is different.

Gamble was the proper call. We needed a talent like Best. Then Bush/Riddick and now Abudllah/Riddick. We're all set.

We didn't need Best. That's like saying we needed Ebron. Oh wait, you think we did..

Yes we did. Holy crap we needed him. We needed weapons like crazy in 2010 and especially RB. Or were you in love with Kevin Smith.

Gerhardt, Dexter Mccluster, Ben Tate and Montario Hardesty were the next backs in that draft.

The trade up and gamble was the right call in 2010.

Needing a RB and needing Best are two different things..

Best was a RB and a receiving weapon. We needed both. We needed a playmaker. We got one with him. At the time, it was 100% the right pick.

No, it wasn't. A RB might have been the right pick just not him. Concussed..NCAA. Concussed...NFL. Concussed right out of football.

Just like when SD drafted Ryan Leaf. He was the right pick at the time doesn't means he wasn't a failure..

He was a playmaker. He was 100% BPA and the right pick.

Wrong. Don't trade up for a guy coming off a bad concussion. And guess what he had them as a pro, because once you have one..

Such a bullshit line. You may have THOUGHT it was the right pick at the time. If a player turns out to be a bust, truth is, they were in fact NOT the right pick.

Getting 1.5 seasons out of a first round pick is not a good pick. If Best had zero injuries in the past you might have an argument. But he HAD an injury risk, he gambled and lost. Worth the risk? Well here we are sitting with 0 playoff wins and Best has been out of football for years, clearly it wasn't worth the risk.

Regardless of it being hindsight, the RIGHT call if you needed a RB like that?? Dexter McCluster. He was there in the second round and you wouldn't have even lost a 4th round pick because no need to trade up.

Best wasn't a talent bust. Best was the right pick. You take the gamble. McCluster blows. McCluster is a bust. And we didn't lose a 4th, we swapped 4ths.

Do you people even pay attention to what actually happens and what the needs and BPA are at the time.

Wait a minute..Best in not a bust who hasn't played in years yet DMC is, and still playing?

A bust is a bust. I guess 32 GMs are idiots because using your "talent > everything" metric that you're clearly using, L'ael Collins went undrafted while being the best talent on the board.

And McCluster just signed a 3 year contract following up his rookie contract. Jahvid Best is suing a helmet company. I'll take the former.

Best is a better play than McCluster by far.

Best

22 games played, 3.7 YPC, 9.1 YPC, 1719 yards from scrimmage. Now sitting on the couch while his lawyers sue the Lions and the NFL

McCluster

72 games played, 4.1 YPC, 8.6 YPC, 4691 yards from scrimmage and is still helping his team.

McCluster had .6 YPC his last year in KC and 3.3 YPC in Tennessee. And he only had 12 attempts in 2012. He is not on his original team. KC let that bust go. He's not even a real RB.

Best had a great 2011 and was improving. Had turf toe his rookie year for the bad YPC.

Best was a game breaker and difference maker. Huge plays every week, especially in 2011. McCluster is a bust.
