Lions wanted Ahgolor

Best had turf toe in 2010. 2011 He was a more explosive playmaker than McCluster by far. Was having a monster year.
Lions used their 2nd round pick and 4th round value swap. That was the correct value to use. it wasn't like the Lions used their only 1st rounder on the guy.

And McCluster YPC is higher due to only be a passing threat. The % of passing to rushes is higher for McCluster. McCluster hasn't run much in 3 years.

Mayhew knew who he was before you tube. Clearly he has scouts that follow the Pac 10. Stop being dumb.

And Mayhew addressed the Oline fine in 2010. Raiola/Peterman were re-signed in 2009, Sims in 2010 traded for and Backus and Gosder were first round picks in the middle of their deal. That line succeeded in 2011 with a healthy Best and Stafford and other RBs.

2012 Peterman regressed, we drafted Reiff (addressd) then in 2013 we got Warford and Waddle and had a great year.

Mayhew did everything right RB wise and Oline wise. Major injuries in 2014 and 2010 Best turf toe and 2012 Best concussins knocked himout permanantly. Line did well in 2011 (4.3 YPC) and 2013 (Bush 4.5 YPC).

Also you fail to notice that when we had Best, teams couldn't have crazy coverage on Calvin because Best was such a home run threat. They couldn't give the deep safety looks in fear of Best. And Calvin had a monster start to 2011.

Also it was smart to trade up for him. 1st round pick you get 5 years (on a cheaper late 1st round contract). 2nd round pick you only get 4 years on the contract. That was worth 4th round value at the time.

2010 Best turf toe, Stafford hurt
2011 Best did well, other RBS did well (4.3 YPC total) and a great offense
2012 LeShoure we found out he was slow after injury and Best didn't come back, Bell 5 YPC that year
2013 Bush 4.5 YPC, Bell did solid
2014 Bell good second half of season, Bush hurt most of year but had some big TDs, Riddick is a receiver only
2015 nice group with Bell/Abdullah on paper and a revamped line.

You really want to bitch about 2010 and 2012. 2015 looks good. 11-5 2014, Bush had a monster 2013 and 2011 we had a great offense including running the ball.

And even a better year in 2012 was Best wasn't playing. There goes your theory.

2012 was not an even better year. More targets and yards but less TDs, less efficiency. Way less TDs. 2011 was his best year.

My theory is correct.

Best most overrated player we had.

Alright, I wasn't going to jump in on this pointless fucking argument......but this statement is just false.

Best's issues were all health related. Debate all you want about IF he should have been drafted or in what round.......I don't care.

But Jahvid Best was NOT overrated. Maybe by LKP....but that guy is loony. When healthy.....he was a player that needed to be accounted for. Besides CJ......Detroit didn't have that before him and has rarely had that after him. 2014 Golden Tate and 2013 Reggie Bush.....that's it.

He's a talented player that opponents had to account for by DCs. He was a good receiver and better runner than he gets credit for around here. I'm not surprised since everyone here underrates alot of players (Stafford, Quin, Mathis, Ngata etc). Talented player is exactly what I have been saying too. Late 1st was the correct value. Trade up was the correct move (get an extra year). The need was there in 2010. The Oline was set in 2010 with 1st rounders at tackle, Sims, Raiola and Peterman (on new deals).

Best paid dividends in 2011. Talent hit by Mayhew. Then unluckily could never play football again. There is a difference between possibly getting another concussion and being banned from football due to head trauma (the timing didn't help).

Complaining about 2010, 2012 and 2013 is dumb at this point.

Overrated in the context because of what LKP was talking about with him..I just worded it wrong.

I never overrated him. He's a good player that had to be accounted for. that is the proper rating. Worth a late 1st. Proper rating. Worth a trade up swapping 4ths. Proper rating.

Jahvid Best? Is there really nothing to talk about it?

Ugh, only about 2.5 months to go

We can talk about Stafford having 35 TDS 12 picks and 5,000 yards this season.

Or the Oline allowing less than 30 sacks with the upgrade.

Ebron having 750 yards and 5 TDs as the 3rd option.

The Lions defense being top 5 and Lions offense being top 5.

Best had a few great games, there is no denying that. 2 out of his 22 were great games. But lets not imply he was a great player.

He had 1 game over 100 yards rushing (4.5% of games)
He had 1 game over 100 yards receiving (4.5% of games)
He had 5 games over 100 yards from scrimage (22.7% of games)

I know you LKP are a big fan of throwing out anomalies, so lets take out his two best.

Gets you
226 Carries 704 yards (3.11 YPC) and 3 TDs
72 receptions 611 yards (8.48 YPR) and 2 Tds

over 20 games that is and average of 65 yards total from scrimmage. with a a TD every 4th game. 3.11 YPC is not good enough, especially for a 1st rounder.
