Lions's chances this season

When you are a CB and only have "a few" bad plays a game where you get burned for a TD or long gain that makes you a shitty CB.

Sure if he doesn't have those bad plays he would be a good CB, but the reason why no one wanted him is because of those plays. That's his thing, play well but gives up the big play. That is why e is nothing more than an average corner.

That's like saying except for the few FGs he missed Akers is an elite kicker. He makes 100% of the Kicks he doesn't miss!

If it wasn't for those 263 incomplete and the 19 INT, Stafford is pretty good..

Teams don't win games when their defense sets a record for most total yards given up in a playoff game. 626 yards...ridiculous

Our defense didn't take advantage when Drew Brees threw them the ball, so he killed us later and Stafford had to force passes and make mistakes.

defense hasn't got any better since then....nice job mayhew.

most of those INT's and incomplete passes weren't his fault. He also got robbed on his TD totals as he threw 3 TDs for the opponents.

That's true, why hasn't that been brought up before, he did throw those TD passes. And the INT were completed passes..

Change the rule, call it the Stafford effect.

And not making those key INTS killed them. They had every opportunity in the world to smash the Saints but never took advantage.

Smash the Saints? I don't know about that. But I do think it was closer than a lot of folks on here are willing to admit (as that goes against their "nice job, Mayhew" agenda).

Yep. Smash them. They should have picked off Brees 2-3 times from what i remember and leave them in the dust. Defense never capitalized and you can't give Brees multiple opportunities.

Because we were hurt/unlucky? It was definitely not closer than it looked.

It was much closer than it looked. 24-21 then the refs handed the Saints the game on that 4th down. And it should have been 28-24 Lions at that point too because of the refs. Durant had an easy TD after Young destroyed Strief for the fumble.

And Brees is a superstar only because Houston and Spievey got hurt. That first TD in the second half had everything to do with an injured secondary.

And basically you are saying the Lions should have had 2 picks. That is the Lions shooting themselves in the foot, not the Saints outplaying the Lions. The 2 almost picks make the game closer in the Lions favor not that the Saints were dominating.

Those picks would have changed the momentum of the game for sure. They would have ended drives and given us chances to score. It would have made the game closer but that team just wasnt good enough all around. They couldn't run the ball and the entire offense was way to one dimensional. That defense was not terrible but they were pretty opportunistic that whole season until they missed those opportunities. The defense we have now has the potential to be very good. We dominated the run last season but we struggled in stopping big plays and getting turnovers. That has been a problem for two years now. The pass defense I still firmly believe struggled due to scheme. Way to interested in playing off and containing and not enough trying to play the ball and force the other team to produce. But they showed potential and hopefully Austin can bring some change. Same basic scheme but willing to switch up defenses should help and hopefully we play a little closer to the LOS with the corners. We won't play man to man much but we may see more press zones which would be nice.

Shooting themselves in the foot meaning they suck.it wasn't because of injury or luck it because our guys are not good at being the INT.

24-21 with about 10 minutes left. Brees throws directly into the arms of a wide open, uncontested Aaron Berry, nobody even close to him. He absolutely should have made that play. Detroit's offense was tearing up the NO defense. At a minimum, they would have tied it up or taken a 4-point lead. That's not the blowout of epic proportions you're trying to portray.

And, **** your hurt/unlucky comment.

Last I knew Aaron Berry was part of the Lions and he didn't make a play. The bottom line is NO destroyed the Lion's defense. They passed for 459 yards and ran for another 167. 45-28 is an ass kicking.

Yes. Regardless if it was close for a certain amount of time we got our ass Kicked. The defense blew..

"Should have made the play" -- give me a break. First he's S, and not very good one. Second, S typically don't have WR hands. And lastly, we're the LIONS.

And coulda, shoulda, woulda - fk that. We gave up near 700 yards that's an ass kicking of epic proportions.

You will not convince me that it was a total ass kicking. Det had plenty of opportunities to win that game...right up to the dropped INT by Berry. That is not an ass whooping. That is a failure to take advantage of their chances. There is a difference.

However, that gives validity to your "we're the Lions" statement. Your other statements...you may want to fact check them.

That's the point. Did he miss an easy opportunity for an INT because well he's not very good or because "we're the LIONS".

As far as the rest the defense was not good. The Lions always seem to be "we were close for much of the game". Don't you get tired of that? And yes I still believe when you give up near 700 yards they got their collected asses handed to them.

lol. we didn't get our asses kicked...we just didn't do our jobs and lost 45-28.
