Lombardi and others....FIRED

Maybe not better than Stafford, but who? Cook is a carbon copy of Stafford and Paxton plays in a spread offense. Are there any QBs in college coming out in the draft that could step in right away?

There are 6 QBs starting today from the past 2 drafts and I would say all of them are playing similar to, or better than Stafford. The QBs are out there...it's up to the Lions to find them.

Even if it's not a first rounder, how about Hogan or Kessler later on the draft? I'm a huge fan of Hogan and surprised they have him listed that low. Completion % is through the roof.

I'm fine with a 3rd-5th rounder. The 3rd is a comp pick though since we made the Gabe Wright trade.

I did like Paxton Lynch when he was in the 2nd-3rd round grade. I would take him in the second. Being from a spread offense does not bother me as much. We have a lot of characteristics of it.

If Stafford continues to struggle this year, then I would consider taking Lynch with our 1st pick. He's a big guy with decent mobility. Which is becoming the new necessity in the NFL. Defenses are just getting to good at getting to the QB. You need a guy that can extend and make a play, or shake off the 1st guy.

I agree with you on mobility. It's the biggest thing Stafford lacks.

As a Michigan fan, I can tell you one massive difference between the two: Cook's a bonafide winner on the biggest stage. Just out of sheer curiosity, I went back and looked at Stafford's games in college against ranked teams. Other than two really strong outings in his last two games at Georgia, he never did anything amazing.

Stafford was drafted purely on potential and not what he did for Georgia. Georgia had enough around him that he didn't need to do a ton. Cook's put his team on his back multiple times when they need him most and he's excelled.

Cook's also had a killer defense the last couple of years to help him out. Maybe not so much this year, but still solid. Cook is nothing special...he makes some nice NFL throws, but his accuracy issues are a concern.

I never heard of Paxton Lynch before this season, but my lord he's putting up some numbers. I don't care what type of offense you play for, going 17/1 on TD/INT and throwing better than 70 percent is insane. He's a big kid with mobility too. He won't make it out of the top 5.

Cook does have 2 NLF quality WRs but I think he could come in and do as well as Stafford.

A buddy of mine has been hyping up Brandon Doughty from Western Kentucky. He tells me that his accuracy is second to none. Haven't watched a down of him to tell you anything about him....

Lynch is a beast. He's be the only guy I'd be happy with...

If you are going to have a middle of the road QB let's just put a rookie in there and put the extra $10-$12M a year into building a better defense or OL.

So, I get to listen to you guys about how shit he is for the next 5-6 years? No thank you!! If they want the QB, you go get Paxton Lynch. I know he's not in an NFL sysyem or anything remotely close, but he's the best QB in the draft and he's special.

I happened to watch a highlight video of him within the last week. He was very accurate, but he also had all day to set his feet and throw in the video I saw.

Although on a few roll outs he did seem to show good accuracy while moving. He looked small, but he is listed at 6-3 220, so that is an ok size. Would at least be a improvement over DanO as backup you would think, might be worth it in the 4th or with one of our 5ths.

That's fine too...I really have no idea which college QB is going to be special or not.

As far as bitching about Stafford...I complain because people call him special, he is paid like he is special but he is not. If they have some middle of the road QB who is paid like it & produces like it, that will be another story. It's all about expectations IMO.

Right, but those QBs also at some point do special things with their talent. We are still waiting for that.

Stafford has done plenty of special things and made many special plays. Two double digit win seasons. Not much help in the other seasons. Average QBS get paid big bucks in this league. Quite bitching about it.
