Matt Garza?

Sounds like the Tigers are going to land him as Turner being the centerpiece.
Yup. This is a case of DD getting what DD wants. Could see it happening later today or tomorrow.

I don't want Juirjens he has injury issues and the Braves know something others don't. If we acquire Garza for Turner i wouldn't mind shipping Porcello to the Padres for Chase Headley

Dombrowski will not trade Turner + others, for a two year rental of Garza.

Why wouldn't he? Illiach is 83 years old, he does not give a F*** about cost controlled players at this point in his life, he just wants to win. I'd understand if we were a franchise no where close to competing for a title and trading our top prospect for a pitcher that won't help, but we are a team that is competing for a AL Central title for the next 5 years or so and we can't really on that top prospect to pan out. We've had way too many prospect not pan out, Andrew Miller, Rick Porcello, and Jeremy Bonderman are all great examples of that.

Porcello is still 23 and Bondo showed glimpses of being a solid pitcher before getting hurt.

But with that being said, prospects are prospects, and the front office just has to decide if Garza is worth the risk of Turner panning out.

7:41pm: On Twitter, Kaplan clarifies that "down the road" means trade talks between the two teams have progressed "far beyond" the initial stages. Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus hears that the Tigers are willing to talk about Turner, but they are far more reticent when it comes to third base prospect Nick Castellanos.

and from rotoworld;
If completed, the Cubs would receive a package of prospects in return. Though Kaplan doesn't have any specifics of the players being discussed, but the Cubs would probably ask for either right-hander Jacob Turner and third baseman Nick Castellanos -- the Tigers' best two prospects -- as the centerpiece. Multiple teams have expressed serious interest in Garza this winter, including the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays.

On Baseball Reference.com's comparables,
Matt Garza through 27 = Joe Sparma, Jim Lonborg, Steve Trachsel, Ben McDonald or Brad Penny.

I saw that as well, truly Garza has more talent than all of those players and has finally learned how to mix his pitches effectively

Meh, seems like a real waste to give up 1 or 2 of our top prospects for this position.

Don't get me wrong, Garza would make us better, but not as much as a decent 2B/3B/LF'r would.

We could use another starting pitcher, but I would not want to give that much for one.

Maybe the Cubs will take Oliver and Below instead?

yeah, if we're gonna trade turner id rather get someone to fill one of our offensive/defensive holes, those are more important than another pitcher imo.

I like Garza but I don't want to give up turner and Castellanos.. I just don't...
