MSU basektball recruiting

Izzo was limited on what he could say about it yesterday, but he sure made it sound like it was similar to the McDowell letter of intent situation.

I think the limited talk is also insider info to others

I never bet against you guys, but this dude would have solidified that. Now you never know.

Definitely increased the odds. Shit, a week from now he could be an MSU commit again the way these things seem to go nowadays.

When I heard a couple days ago he did not sign his LOI yet I had a gut feeling he would decommit despite Izzo's belief that he would sign. Shitty to say the least but not the end of the world. We should still be solid next year, just not a top team that we could have been.

I never thought he was 100% msu. Even before he committed I heard rico beard saying that this will go on well after he announces. I know some top basketball recruits never sign a loi but I thought we could lose him to cal, not purdue

bye! Now if JW3 committed somewhere else and we lost him due to that id be furious.

he laid out a visit plan a week or so ago and MSU was on the list just in case anyone transferred

I prefer to form my own opinion based on what the coaches and the actual player say. "Insider info" is rarely correct on this forum.

Indeed. The "insider info" on these guys takes everyone on these crazy roller coaster rides (particularly in the Swanigan saga) and has about as much predictive value as a coin.

We're better off without him anyway - unless of course, he ends up signing an LOI to MSU.

Johnny, I know you are the most optimistic dude in America, but this isn't "easy come, easy go." The stick with MSU, as it is with the guys I root for is that the big recruits aren't coming in. This would have been HUGE for you guys to maintain him. It's not just something that is swept under the rug. It feels the same way about Brown. Michigan has a darn good team returning, but Brown would have made them F4 contenders. I think MSU is in a similar boat.

Agreed. It's definitely not "easy come, easy go". At least not "easy come" - the last 3 years the recruiting of Parker, Ulis, Okafor, Jones, etc. have made that abundantly clear.

Sounds like he is headed to Turdue. Shady as hell given his guardian is a Purdue alum.

Good luck to him. I look forward to seeing Purdue maybe make the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament in 2016.

I'm glad he went to Purdue - wud rather see him at a B1G school (ex-wisco) than KU, dook, unc, ky, cal, etc.

I have nothing against Purdue and I actually feel a little bad for them - they had it pretty rough w/ injuries too with the Hummel teams.

of course you're saying that we're better off without him in a childish attempt to bait me, but if you're going to do that, at least have the common sense to include my full statement from months ago. I said "if he is demanding that he plays 30 minutes per game, we're better off without him."

Do you really think I wouldn'tt call you on including half of the statement or are you just that much of an asshole that you can't pass up the opportunity to try to antagonize me?

because you'd rather see us lose @ Purdue with Swanigan as opposed to beating them while he is playing at Cal?

Rico Beard said yesterday that this is a reverse Malik Mcdowell situation, where the kid wanted to go elsewhere but his guardian wanted him to sign with MSU. interesting that he says that he committed before he was ready, but it was mid april

From Brian Snow at Rivals

-Said everything about this is a surprise
-He never planned to sign a LOI. That was the plan all along.
-Reiterates that Barnes was completely fine and "more than happy" with Caleb going to Michigan State which has been said here by Amie, Rod, etc. He wanted Caleb to go to Michigan State.
-Gun to his head, he thinks he goes to Purdue.
-States the obvious, but he committed when he wasn't ready.
-Says if MSU can get JW3, they probably will.
-They asked him if he is a confused kid and could still end up in East Lansing after all, and he said he wouldn't rule out anything.

it was a joke - and again, it was about the roller coaster ride we've been on with this kid as he's pulled however many 180s on us throughout his recruitment. get over yourself.

yeah, a joke, because we are such good buddies and we joke all the time. Often times someone acts like a dick and then when another person says something about that, the response is that they were only joking. that was an obvious reference to prior conversations about Swanigan and directed at me, you've brought that half of a statement about us being better off without him before, maybe more than once. Your attempt to bait me was obvious, then you're looking around saying "who? me?"

Because I'd rather see elite kids play in the B1G (except wisco - i really don't like wisco). I'm not a defeatist, so I'm not counting at Purdue as a loss just because they have Swanigan. He doesn't guarantee them any wins, not one. But getting elite players to stay in the area and play at B1G schools is good for us in the long run.

no, we're not good buddies. I don't like you. But contrary to what you might think you're not the only person who reads DSF so newsflash - not everything is about you.

I never said that everything was about me but your previous post about being better off without him was clearly about me, no question.
