My way too early yardage prediction thread

So 4,700 yards 35 tds and 10 picks. 12-4 record for Detroit. Sounds good

talent to win 12 but calvin being out 3 games means we automatically lose those games. Matt "it wasn't my fault just bad luck" Stafford throws 2 game losing pick 6's in the 4th quarter in 2 other games. Defense gives up 40 + in 2 other games....Stafford cant out gunsling the other teams...2 more loses. 9-7. Don't make the playoffs. 17th pick in the draft. mayhew fired. success.

If a GM puts 12 win talent on the field he has done a very good job.

If the team actually wins 12 games he's done a good job..otherwise go get a HC that makes it happen..

I'll agree with that. I like the coordinators we have. I actually like the fact that they are unknowns, so to speak, and will bring an attitude and energy with them that Gunther and Linehan just didn't have.

I'm undecided on Caldwell..... though I like a coach who stays more level headed than dipshit Schwartz......but will give him the benefit of the doubt

I know it feels good to visualize a 12 win season... Earth to message board, earth to message board... 7 to 8 win team at best.

Thanks for finally agreeing with me Hughes. 12 wins talent means mayhew is great. And Calvin playing 16 means they go 12-4 based on what you said.

only problem is I was mocking you....I think we have the talent to mayyyybe win 7 games and we get lucky in 2 others. I think I said that somewhere...maybe on a different thread. In reality I think were no where close to being a contender and were best off winning 5 games...dumping Stafford and mayhew and getting a top 6 pick with a new gm that hopefully drafts better than mayhew in rds 2-7.

Im hesitant on the dumping Stafford part until I see what this coaching staff can do with him though....he does have the arm. If they can coach him up to actually run an offense with progressions more than just calvin > dump down and be more accurate then they did their job. I think itll take a miracle....but miracles do happen.

WHO gives a fk. Unless they win some playoff games they could go undefeated and it wouldn't mean shit. And Stafford's arm doesn't mean jack shit..

You can't possibly believe that.

Damn right i do. Did you see this offense without Calvin? A defense complete main goal is to shut down CJ if possible. It's next to impossible but it's the plan. How can you disagree?

I just cant wrap my head around how you guys will argue til the death that this is a talented team...but as soon as 1 wr goes down were doomed lmao......its so contradictory its ridiculous. I understand hes the best WR in the game...and other teams have to gameplan for him. But if were THAT talented other people should be stepping up in his absence. And we have no one that does that. This year MAYYYYBE ebron and tate can do that.....and im sure you optimists will point to that.... but ill point to how you guys fail at predicting whats going to happen time and time again. How many times did I have to hear that it was Broyles' "time to shine" lmao. I actually do think tate and ebron bring a lot of talent to the offense that we didn't have before.....but for me it still remains to be seen if Stafford can get ANYONE in this offense to be consistently productive outside of calvin. New coaches and new scheme hopefully changes that cause up to this point hes been piss poor at it.

I was talking about last year, bro. Players like Broyles were supposed to step up last year. Unfortunately it never happened. This year is different with some new guys on offense, so no excuses for Stafford...i get that. It's sink or swim time with Stafford now...time is dwindling and i won't argue it

I think Stafford will have 2 years with the new staff to show improvement. LKP its not just about the yards either. Footwork, mechanics and completion percentage. Working through his progressions. Showing some touch on a swing pass to the rb.

I agree. 2 years tops!!

that is the point...a defense can shut a WR down. Rodgers elevates all of the WRs on his team because he is so great.

here are some of CJ's yardage totals in his games last year.

37 - win
44 - win
25 - win
83 - win
52 - loss
43 - loss

A wr can have a bad game or not be involved in the offense and the team can still win. QBs are just way more important to the offense than ANY wide receiver. Hell, even Stafford is more important to the Lions offense than CJ.

The depth behind Calvin got hurt too. Rodgers always has two or three guys who can make plays between jones Nelson cobb and Finley. He used to have Jennings too. The lions finally have that with Calvin Tate ebron and bush. We never got to see if burleson pettigrew and bush could do it. One of them was hurt along with Calvin.

And with Calvin it's not about the yards. It's attracting defenders and forcing opponents to game plan for Calvin. Oline didn't step up without Calvin and waddle but the oline is talented still based on all year

The defense is talented and did well those two games and it wasn't solely Calvin hurt in 2013. Oline and bush are talented obviously too but they didn't step up the two games without calvin. Two bad games doesn't mean they lack talent.

I know QBs are more important on an offense. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying Calvin IS our offense. Especially last year and it's not just about yardage in a game. Teams focus on CJ 150% of the time. He's just as important as any QB in the league IMO. He's that special...deny it all you want to.

Just as important as a QB..that's a good one.

Calvin Johnson sure is. Especially in this offense. You guys bash on Stafford, yet you think CJ isn't as important as him? What a joke! lol. Who are the numbskulls that claim CJ bails Stafford out all the time? You fn dummies that's who.
