My way too early yardage prediction thread

I'm just going by numbers. Both Aikman and Bradshaw were average QBs at best. Both QBs had the sickest defenses to back them up. A lot of players shouldn't even be in the HOF, but when you win, you're in. I don't agree, but that's the way it is....

That brings me to the main point of all this..we should be focus ten fold on defense. Early picks, late picks..free agency. Then a average QB can win here.

They have focused on the defense. They have brought numerous players via FA and draft. You can't deny it...

I wasn't as clear..what I mean is let's do whatever possible to get a powerful defense, like Seattle's. Regardless how much they've done with the defense it's not at Seattle's level. Maybe because with some of our high priced players we're limited. I just want a top five defense..Not certain areas like 3rd down efficiency, I know lkp will bring that up, but everything. I just don't think Stafford can be good enough to get us to a SB.

We all want a powerful defense and Seattle proves that it can be done with later picks in the draft. People love to bitch and complain on here because we didn't reach for a CB or S. Oh well, defense gets a facelift this year. New coaches, new scheme and some new faces. Totally new defense, yet people on here claim nothing has changed...lol. It's mind-boggling.

As for Stafford. He needs to be smarter. He finally has coaches that understand the position and the importance of it. He's good enough, but needs some help. Nothing wrong with that.

We should be better but history tells us other wise. In all reality, I think we can expect an explosive offense but in the end it's the secondary that will let us down. I sure hope they prove me wrong.

I feel ya. The secondary is going to learn on the fly this year with Slay projected to be our #1 and a lot of the young guys getting extra playing time. The same thing would have been happening if they drafted a CB early so people need to chill. DLine needs to play better and our LB corp got stronger with the addition of Van Noy, Tapp and the tweener Webster. Things are looking up...

Well said Tony.

Press man will play to Slay's strengths and will hopefully take away the quick passes that killed us last year. It should also give the dline another half second to get to the qb and hopefully turn all those pressures into sacks. Also being more aggressive with the blitz should help.

Bradshaw I agree with, Aikman was routinely top 5 QB in the early to mid 90s. I would take top 5 QB all day, no matter how good the defense or offensive weapons were.

Good because he struggled greatly with zone and man. Should get more picks. It's about time. I guess Austin knows what he has and plans to maximize.

Go look at Aikman's numbers though. He was a mediocre QB at best and he had a top-flight WR in Irvin, a top-flight TE in Novacek, killer OLine and a top-flight RB in Smith. Loaded with HOFers on the O and D. He was spoiled his whole career. What he did very good was that he played his ass off in the playoffs. He played off the charts and i can't take that from him, but if we're going by the numbers, he was average.

yup and a freak when the pressure was on. Big time QB.

Stafford should have all the pieces in place. He is gonna have a monster year.

Did Aikman force his team out of playoff contention though? Stafford did

Bullshit! Not all Stafford's fault they didn't make the playoffs. Pure ignorance.

No, of course not. But I don't know any good QB who has a 7-8 game stretch like Stafford did. I can't imagine Aikman did though it's hard for me to remember all of his career..

Key word "SHOULD". Hope all the extra weapons pay off this year, but I fully expect some growing pains with the new players acquired, and the new scheme. Consistency is what I want to see out of Stafford this year, which will mean the Lions make the playoffs. Unless Stafford is consistently terrible, which I don't expect. Can't wait for the season to start.

"Should"..lmao. He sucked for two years and suddenly a new WR and TE he'll have a monster year..

If you think Stafford sucked last year, you have major issues assessing talent and production.
29 TDs, 6th 3rd down conversion, 4,650 yards, basically led this team without much turnover help(22 only) and many games no run game help (5 losses 3.4 YPC or worse), bad drop %.

Yes a new WR,TE will be huge and display how much talent Stafford has. Calvin's finger surgery helps. Oh and the whole new scheme thing from Lombardi.

Gotta admit Durham was no weapon and that the Lions wrs besides cj were worthy of being on a practice squad. Golden tate> any of the guys playing opposite cj last year? Definitely. The Lions are putting a better team on the field this year, so, yeah, I expect a much better year out of Stafford this year..numbers wise. Whether it translates to wins is the real question

I'm not comparing Stafford to Aikman
