My way too early yardage prediction thread

I guess you and I see the term "value" as being completely different. To me, burning a top 10 pick on an area that is complete luxury is about as far away from value as you can get. I felt the exact same way about Pettigrew. The value on Ebron diminishes further when you already have a guy you just signed to a big deal, and Fauria who ate up a lot of the red zone. If you needed a 2nd WR, draft a WR. I can't stand hearing people saying, "Ebron's a WR." No he's not. He's a tight end, and he's said it as much throughout his interviews.

I never said Ebron was a WR. I know he's a TE. He'll play mostly in the slot though. And all three TEs you mentioned are completely different styles. Ebron is the playmaker, Pettigrew excels in the short game and Fauria is a redzone monster.
And the Pettigrew signing was no big deal. If he doesn't produce the way the Lions want him to, he can be let go for nothing. He'll cost zero against the cap next year and beyond (i think). Tremendous value ;)

Some teams draft the best available player, some by need. For me, value is getting late round starters.

I know Tony, and I hope the guy is good. But do you really need three TEs to do all that different stuff? Feels like a waste of the position to me that you have a bunch of players that only specialize in one thing.

I'm not sure they really need all 3, but one thing for sure is, they will have options..lol. Lots of different offensive schemes to throw off defenders. Don't bash it until you see it in action, right?

The reason I still can't stand the pick is because overall offense is not the issue. There were more pressing needs in the secondary. Having a three TEs to do all these different things seems like a luxury vs filling massive holes in the defensive secondary. Even if Slay turns out to be good, how about adding another CB that you know will be a solid contributor (Dennard)? Or a guy in the backfield like Clinton-Dix? Just don't like the choice.

Dennard played man-up in college and nothing else really. Not sure he would have fit the Lions style of play. Learning curve would have been long. I would have been happy with Dix though, but it's another player who would have taken some more time to learn. Ebron makes this offense better with his size and skillset and he'll produce immediately IMO, where the other guys like Dennard and Dix will take longer. That's just my opinion. Besides, Lawson could contribute in the slot right away...maybe lol.

Well if we use that criteria, then Ebron better produce now, or it was a waste of a pick. Hopefully he does.

I agree with all this..

Minnesota is the only team in the NFC with less points scored than us (4)... meanwhile we allowed around 50 points less than the rest of the division.

I mean, I can see WHY they drafted offense. I don't love the pick just yet, but let's see what the kid can do. No point in hoping he busts or sucks.

No one is hoping that. Just pointing out that we have an abundance of TE's. Will they all get used effectively, it depends but I say no. Imo, a top 10 needs to get the ball a lot. Even as much as we throw, CJ and Tate and Pettigrew plus our two RB, who all get the ball a lot..not sure there's enough to go around. Add in our bench players and Staff might need to throw 800 times and he might.

Depends on definition of produce. Anything 500 yard and above is a good season for a rookie TE.

We've seen this offense needs an abundance of talent at skill positions to be successful. I'm ok with the pick, I didn't see any high level talent that fit here at #10 for the defense.

My point is that if people on here say they want someone who can make an immediate impact and don't want to wait the 2-3 years for a CB/DB to emerge, you can't tow both sides of the line and say it's okay for Ebron to take time. He better be a revelation next year and have a Marquise Colston-like emergence

I see value as increased production at a position you didn't have before...if ebron puts out the same production we got from pettigrew....then why the fuck did we spend a top 10 pick on that?! I also see value in production from later rounds. So in my example getting donte moncrief in rd 3 and putting up 600 yards is much better value than getting 600 yards from a top 10 pick. Tony is too dumb to understand any of this though so I guess I should just stop arguing it. Ebron is the best, van noy is the best even though he was the 6th best olb, samsonite is the best back up center in the league. Good job mayhew.

Shitty pettigrew can get 500 yards in this offense. Ebron is a bust if thats what he ends up with...

We needed a slot and TE. Ebron is both because he plays both and will be used in both spots. It's great value and the right spot for Ebron to go. Only idiots don't see that. Both Pettigrew and Ebron will be used properly with plenty of snaps. Pettigrew re-signing was needed too. Great signing.

You could have got a blocking TE a lot cheaper than him.

Naaaah, i'm not too dumb at all. You're the fn dummy who doesn't get it..lol. You already have Moncrief penciled in at 600 yds because you're a fn moron. We all know the offense revolves around CJ. Ebron brings another element to the offense. Something you fn retards don't understand. If he's as advertised, not only will he put up stats, but he'll take away defenders from other players on offense like Tate, Bush and Bell. Everybody knows that CJ is double/triple teamed most of the game. Leaving players like Tate and our RBs with less defenders all over them. Too bad you fn idiots don't understand it, but the presence of Ebron should benefit this team greatly. Just because he doesn't catch 10 balls and a 100+ yards game with 2 TDs, doesn't mean he isn't a factor. Dummy.

There should be plenty enough to go around. And if not, but you're winning some games, they need to shut their mouths. Look at the Broncos last year. Thomas bros, Decker and a stable of RBs. They kept their yaps shut. Theres nothing wrong with having options. Wtf is wrong with you people, seriously? You compkain because we have dogshit and now you're complaining about having too much. Does it ever end with you guys....ever?
