My way too early yardage prediction thread

Just because you're a miserable puke when it comes to the Lions, that means we all have to be?? lol. I have faith every year. I get excited about the new year. I want to see a winner. You? You've already cashed your fn chips in! lol. Why bother talking shop then? Why stay on this board if you have zero fn faith? It makes no fn sense to me....ever. You think you're doing a standup thing by not purchasing tickets to Lions games? Making a stand?? lmfao. What a joke! Season ticket holder with my old man the last 5 years and damn proud of it!! I cheer for my team every Sunday like a true fan. I don't boycott them!! So, pat yourself on the back for turning your back on them. That's pathetic! I'll never understand "fans" like you. Weak.

You should be fortunate you can afford season ticks..I sure can't. As far as not being a fan because someone is negative and doesn't believe in them is ridiculous. I'll be rooting on Sunday just like you, most on here do. We're stl here after all these years. And I bet we wouldn't be so negative if there wasn't such homerism in 2-3 posters.

The way I see it is that the secondary was bad last year. It could still be bad this year. This is a new year. Either way we were in competition for the division last year. If the secondary(or by extension, pass rush) is better this year with a new defensive scheme we will still challenge for the division.

One problem I see with that, Rodgers stays healthy all year. They have some problems on defense and even offense..but he's just too good.

Jdeb I'm with you. I don't know why being pessimistic means you aren't a fan. I used to be that way. When they drafted WRs 9 years in a row, kept building that offense, I was on board. I was a slappy, loved everything they did because the franchise could do no wrong in my eyes. That all ended for me when I finally came to the realization it's just a rat that can't find his way through the maze. I see teams every year that were crap the prior year turn it around in a hurry. Parody exists in the league, but the Lions can't seem to find it.
Well said.

You are saying the Lions will suck because they let you down in the past. That is just beyond idiotic to me. 2014 has nothing to do with that. It's not on an actual assessment of the team. You can be negative. Just back it up with something which you guys consistently fail to do.

I can do that easily. The Lions have consistently left me down as a fan since I understood how football works. I got excited every draft about the new talent and the new season. And they have yet to do perform on the field. There's no reason for me to get all giddy, pump up the team and talk about all this amazing talent until they put forth a real season. All the goodwill they earned from the 2011 campaign was buried from last year's disgrace. I'm always going to be a fan, that won't change. Sunday will roll around, and all my negativity will wash away at 12:59PM. But, I don't need to brim with optimism until they do something. I'm tired of giving my hopes up with them.

There are plenty of postitives to this team that you saw on the field. The talent is the only thing that matters going into a season. Underachieved in 2013, doesn't mean squat for 2014. Especially with new coaches, schemes, and added players.

That's the problem man, you have to get away from that mindset. Talent is NOT the only thing that matters going into the season. There are plenty of teams in any form of sports that have more talent than the team next to them, but can't put it together. You have to stop thinking the Lions are just so much more talented than the teams around them. They aren't. The playing field, other than a few teams that are just awful, is pretty level. That's why an average team will jump up the next season, or a great team will fall back.

By the way, every team is adding new coaches, schemes, and players. It's all relative, not unique to the Lions.

Underachieved based on what? Many people, analyst, etc had us in that 6-10 to 8-8 range.

based on what I found the over under for wins ranged between 7.5 and 8.5...basically saying they were an average team that wasn't expected to do much.

Here is the first article that popped up about the 2014 season.

Detroit Lions, 8
Over (-150) / Under (+130)
It's difficult not to get enchanted by the offensive potential of the 2014 Lions. Reggie Bush and Joique Bell in the backfield are a great one-two punch, Matthew Stafford's efficiency could jump under Jim Caldwell, Calvin Johnson is the most dangerous weapon in the NFL and we don't really know how defenses will partition off players to guard Golden Tate and new addition Eric Ebron. The defense is a major red flag, although Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley playing for new contracts at the same time could get spicy. But I've got them sitting at seven wins as they head to Chicago and Green Bay late in the season and I'm not sure they close things out in those games.
VERDICT: UNDER

He's not sure they can close things out in those games? I know they can't. I can't remember a professional team that folds when the pressure is on late in games more than the Lions.

Don't call me a homer because i have some faith. I never called this team a Super Bowl team. And stop blaming your negativity on the "homers". You guys bitch and complain no matter what...

I ran through the 2014 schedule twice.

With my realistic/analytic view I came to 7-9 (or 8-8). I'm having trouble deciding on the first game of the year.

With my optimistic/hopeful mindset I come to 10-6.

I see 7-8 wins as well. Somehow get to 10 wins and we're playoff bound. Not sure where they're going to get those few extra wins, but they need to figure it out.

You all have been saying all offseason we choked against Ravens, Steelers, Bucs, Giatns and at Vikings. That is underachieved. 12-4 real quick winning those games.

More consistent qb play will make a world of difference. If Staffords accuracy has improved due to righting his feet, the Lions offense will be hard to deal with. I understand not buying into any changes made during the offseason yet, but at least acknowledge that they are trying to change the way this team is run, instead of basically just saying it's going to be the same old Lions. It's gotta be hard being a fan that hates everything about this team, downgrades everything about this team, and spends a majority, if not all of the offseason talking about that team.

10-11 wins is their most probable potential. 7-9 wins means they underachieved again. I just don't see them underachieving in 2014 with this new staff and new weapons. And even if I did see them underachieving it wouldn't be because they caused me emotional distress in previous years. That's just a dumb reason.

Stafford and Bush may just be turnover prone but they have the pieces in place finally to avoid that (weapons/coaching staff/protection). And we may just recover more fumbles even if it is put on the turf or have more offensive production and defensive production to overcome 19 picks.

I said they choked? Where did I say that?

I don't think I ever mentioned the Vikings game because that game didn't mean a thing. I mentioned in the Giants game that the interception was brutal and cost the lions the game, that isn't choking or underachieving, that's what you get with this team. Stafford is going to make throws that wow you and throws that are pathetic. That's not underachieving. That's a guy limitations showing.

Most everyone said they choked and said they should have won that game. Lions outplayed all 5 of those teams and are a better team than all five of those teams.

Injuries, refs on Sims hold, Bush fumble, freak play by Tuck and then that pick with Hill getting lucky it was tipped in the air like that. Lions were the better team and outplayed the Giants. It's a true win. They are a 10-11 win team and that should be the expectation this season. Like I said, Stafford and Bush may be turnover prone but the Lions have added other weapons and coaching to fix it. But given Staffords attempts and ints that are his fault. He's not really turnover prone either when you look at the game tape.
