Nelson Cruz

Kinsler will not be as good as he was at arlington.. he will also not be as bad as his road numbers alone the past 3 years. Lets just watch and see how he adjusts to playing with different hitters around him. Don't know why there is another argument over this.

Yes, let's All wait and see how he does.

If you read the thread, you would know. People left and right are screaming "NO" in ten foot tall letters about the chance of signing Cruz. The question that was posed was; why were (some) people who are so against Cruz, so excited about Kinsler. And the statistical data provided made it a relevant question.

And as far as why is their another argument/discussion about this....what else is there? It's freezing and depressing outside, Baseball seems years away....so what if it's the the same topic as before, nothing else to do.

I agree...after the Super Bowl there is nothing even remotely interesting until spring training.

And even Spring Training won't completely help, because there is very little TV/Radio coverage. Most of us won't get our full baseball fix until April 1st.

And that just feels like it's sooooooooooo far away. :argh:

I would have been happy with just giving Prince away and resigning Infante.

I love spring training. It gives us a chance to see the young guys and some underdogs rise up(Tui last year). Im especially interested in seeing Devon Travis get some time this spring.

One more reason to be against signing Cruz:

Davis 3 year splits against lefties= .297 BA and .818 OPS ( decent doubles power)
Dirks 3 year splits against righties= .278 BA and .751 OPS (and his numbers would be a lot better if you remove a really bad 2013, but then again the league might have figured out how to pitch him... we'll have to see what he does this year to know for sure whether he is what he was last year, the two previous years, or somewhere in between)

Cruz 3 year splits against lefties= .309 BA and .951 OPS (he really crushed lefties, but this was only 343 of his AB's)
Cruz 3 year splits against righties= .249 BA and .764 OPS (not a whole lot better than Dirks' splits, with lower BA and OBP and better power, 1130 AB's)

EDIT-------------------

And if Dirks repeats 2013 at the plate, we can probably find an upgrade via trade midseason

So the question is: Does 10-15 more HR's (hopefully) really justify the downgrade in defense and baserunning all the time, a downgrade in BA with moderate upgrade in power against righties (the vast majority of his AB's), whatever salary he would demand, and the loss of our 1st round draft pick? Not to mention the waste of Davis' salary (you'd have to play Cruz against lefties, and Davis absolutely sucks against righties) and probably trading Dirks at low value (after a really bad offensive 2013) before we know for sure what he really is. And the PED thing.

Ummmmmmmm.... no.

Add: Just how many M's will it cost to replace Davis/Dirks. Who the Tigers have all ready committed too!?

Good post. The platoon of Dirks/Davis looks to be a good one. We get Shane Victorino type production for almost half the price. Victorino 's salary $13,000,000, Davis/Dirks together 7,000,000

Hmm, I might have to look in to getting the MLB gameday audio, I can't really get 97.1 FM or 1270 AM in my area, and the local affiliate usually only broadcasts the regular season + playoffs. 3 out of the 4 FSD games are at 1pm on weekdays too, making it tough to stream them.

I get the MLB at bat app for my Iphone. .99 cents a month but worth every penny. You can listen to either team feed so some of the Tigers games that aren't on radio during spring training might be broadcast by the other team. I like that you can cancel anytime also.

Lets not be too hasty, its still pending a physical, so if Cruz has a hangnail he'll probably fail.
