No tampering found

And if your LKP memory is any good, after the announced contract rumors on that Friday, Goodell issued a statement that said STFU about rumored contract numbers as it is considered tampering.

I meant to type the 6th. I'm curious why we were all talking about it if they did it during their window.

They didn't announce any Suh contract rumors on Friday. It was announced on Sunday. Goodell says that every year and every year teams negotiate contracts in the at 3 day window.

I realized he signed on the 11th..they didn't want to get caught so they waited a bit.

There is nothing to get caught for. They negotiated during the window. Everyone does it.

They didn't negotiate before the window. That is tampering and that is what the Jets did with the owners comments. Revis contract hadn't expired yet. There is a clear difference.

The league even looked into this and said no tampering.

It wasn't in the 3 day window. Why even get the NFL to look at it if was all legit..nothing fishy?

It was in the 3 day window. That is when the terms were known. On Sunday. 2nd day of the window.

NFL just doesn't look at tampering on all signings. Why look at this one?

And the lions get no benefit. Dolphins would get fined. Who cares.

This is tampering.

December 29, 2014. And Revis ends up signing there.

If Ngata goes back to Baltimore. that could be tampering. But we could just franchise him.

The Jets saying they'd love to have Revis back is tampering, But the Dolphins saying they were very confident that they would land Suh, is not. How?? If my memory serves me correctly, the Dolphins weren't even in the running of getting Suh because there were alot of teams with more cap space, etc.

The legal tampering period started on March 7th, and the Dolphins were confident they would sign Suh according to an article dated March 6th

The point everyone is missing in this is the core question of it...

WHO leaked the details? If the Dolphins did, they may have been guilty of being stupid, but not necessarily of "tampering".

If Suh or his agent did, there is not a damned thing Goodell or anyone else can do.

Details leaking out is NOT tampering. Under any definition. If, and I think it's a big if, the Dolphins made contact with Suh or his agent prior to the allowed time frames, it's tampering.

During the 3 day window, they are not allowed to talk to Suh, only his agent. Prior to the 3 day window, they are not even allowed to talk to the agent. In order to prove there was tampering, the NFL has to prove they called the agent early, or had a direct discussion with player, even to the tune of "How would you like to be a Dolphin".

About the only way to prove that is phone records. You think billionaire owners don't know about burner phones? Even if they did tamper, there is a high likelihood they wouldn't be caught.

Mayhew had nothing to do with any of it. It's a simple investigation, and clearly the NFL didn't come away with what they felt they needed to nail them. To put it on Mayhew is stupid. To put it on the NFL is almost as bad. They can't just go around smacking teams because they feel like it.

In the case of Revis to the Jets, the comments were public. It was equally easy to say "hey, you guys screwed up".

When the Jets said they would welcome Revis back, we was a Patriot.

When the Dolphins said they were confident they could land Suh, he was a free agent awaiting the negotiating period.

It's not the same thing. It's actually, in legal terms, not even close. Suh officially became a free agent the day after the Super Bowl, but the NFL allows for a period of time that only his former team can talk to him still.

Players are signed for a number of seasons, and the season ends when the final game is played. His contract had been lived out.

Saying your are confident is not tampering. Who cares. Lions could have matched. Lions had 2 days still. Lions chose not to overpay. Then the Lions went out and made great moves with Ngata, Walker and Wright.

top 5 defense in tact. Top 5 offense can happen too. Though we probably just need one top 5 and the other top 12 or so to win 11-12 and playoff games.

youre not allowed to talk about contract details during the "window".
Contract details were leaked to mortenson during the "window"
There are severe legal ramifications and the NFL should be sued.
Mayhew is soft.
Because mayhew is soft the NFL will do nothing.

That is all....

I thought during the 3 day window teams could talk with agents but not directly to the player. The second part to that is they could not talk contract numbers(ie years and money).

The exact years and money came out during that window.
