No tampering found

I thought during the 3 day window teams could talk with agents but not directly to the player. The second part to that is they could not talk contract numbers(ie years and money).

The exact years and money came out during that window.

woooo...someone that remembers what really happened and doesn't live in lkps fantasy land. Weird....

Everyone talks years and money during the window. It's not tampering.

Every team in the league is guilty of tampering if that is the case.

People talk on the low to agents during the combine.

Perfect.

That's somewhat of a misconception.

They are allowed to exchange what is called a "negotiating position", which is the exchange of years and salary numbers. The agent is allowed to counter, and the team is allowed to re-counter. This can go back and forth until they have an understanding on terms.

They cannot make that negotiating position an "offer", which by definition means the team sending a contract to be signed.

So they are allowed to work out all the details they want, but they can't send over the contract as a final offer during that 3-day window.

If both team and player agree to the "negotiating position" terms, then on the first day of free agency, the team may send over a contract all prepared.

The terms have already been agreed upon, but the offer has not officially been made. It's legal mumbo jumbo, but in the world of contracts, that mumbo jumbo is the only thing that matters.

To be clear, I deal with contracts every day on my job, from price bids to various vendors. I have become so unwittingly familiar with the language of contract law, I've considered going back to school to become a lawyer instead.

A negotiating position is a fancy word for a proposal of services offered or rendered. It does not amount to an offer, which is a contract.

By the NFL rules are clear they can negotiate but cannot make an offer. At the point the agent says "Okay, we like that, we're not going to counter again" they have come to terms by default, without the offer ever being made.

And that's what happens every year in the NFL, but it's not tampering at all.

So the Dolphins did nothing wrong during the window. Like I said. And Goodell and company agreed.

Lions didn't overpay for Suh or Fairley and got Ngata, Walker and Wright. Great job Mayhew.

How does mayhew and Matt both do good jobs when they're under .500 since they been here and we have no playoff wins.

Many injuries and bad refs at crucial times. Plus 2011 and 2014 were good yet you ignore them. And Stafford was good in 2013 yet you ignore that too.

And the whole rookie year doesn't even matter. 2-14. 2009 Millen mess rebuild. 2010 still a rebuild and Stafford hurt.

I'm not going to join the stupid brigade and try to make excuses for the losing record of either guy, especially The Beast That Shall Not Be Named.

However, in the context of this thread, Mayhew did nothing wrong. The NFL investigated and came blank like a 13 year old blonde girl during a math test.

Sometimes you just can't get the evidence you need.

Mortenson has them....why dont they just ask him?

Holy crap dude. All this time I thought you just hated Mayhew.

It wasn't until this thread I figured out how totally completely full of shit you are.

Even the Jets who haven't mattered in 20 years got SOMETHING. Were the lions...we got nothing. Again, all I say is the truth and you call it full of shit. Its plain as day and you ppl are too filled with kool aid to see it. Even the lowly fucking jets got something because they are in new York and they cried about it. Mayhew did nothing...we get nothing....cause were the lions. Its very very simple.

COMPLETELY... TOTALLY... FULL OF SHIT.

You ramble on like the victim of some unwritten rule about lowly teams or whatever the hell you are insinuating.

The Jet's didn't get jack or shit. They got FINED 100K. I wouldn't exactly call that a gift, which is what you're trying to make it sound like. "Even the lowly Jets got something"... yeah.. A BILL.

The Jets owner made comments about wanting another team's player prior to free agency. That is the actual DEFINITION of tampering.

The Dolphins owner said nothing. He didn't tamper as far as anyone can tell. At the worst, he violated the rules on leaking terms... WHICH IS NOT TAMPERING.

It's amazing how you can try to turn anything into an anti-Lions/anti-Mayhew commentary.

LKP is full of shit with his pie in the sky view of the Lions, but you are actually MORE full of shit in just about everything you post. You are willing to bend the truth to flat out lie to make a point about how shitty the team is. At least LKP only has a rose tinted view of the team, he doesn't outright lie through his teeth.

Not to argue this anymore, INK. "But At the worst, he violated the rules on leaking terms... WHICH IS NOT TAMPERING."

I think that is tampering..if it was leaked doesn't that mean the terms were discussed? Ahead of time?

Oh well..

Was tampering. Mayhew's a bitch. Still waiting on my pass interference challenge to go through the competition committee.

Read the rules again bud, or my previous posts on it.

The rules are very very clear... they can exchange numbers back and forth. They cannot make an official offer. In legal terms, that would be either a firm offer sheet or a contract.

They are 100% able to exchange numbers, years, etc...

Tons of free agent agreements were announced this year prior to the start of free agency, and none of them are tampering. Tampering is initiating contact early (privately or publicly) in an attempt to prevent the players former team from having exclusive negotiating rights.

I absolutely 100% believe the Dolphins did something wrong here. But since the didn't make public comments, it's almost impossible to prove. The NFL couldn't find any evidence at all that they could make stick.

Okay. But I didn't think they'd find anything either. But if you're sure the Dolphins did something wrong then you're in agreement with me? I never said I expected anything just that they tampered..example, did something wrong.
