Offseason Needs / 2013

ouch, this guy has us only signing sanchez and madson and missing out on every top outfield option? if that happened, id call that offseason a huge failure pending any trades we also made. we NEED one good corner OF at MINIMUM.

Dierkes writes for them, but might not know every need of every team.
something corner outfield could come in a trade.

and you never know with DD......Giancarlo Stanton and payroll cut with Jose Reyes,
for Castellanos, Peralta, Porcello, Oliver, Crosby, and 5 more minor leaguers.
No, haven't been drinking or anything, just who thought they would see Cabrera and dontrelle here back in 2008.

I would give my left nut and the left nut from the rest you if we landed Giancarlo Stanton.

Given that the Marlins are not serious about winning, I would not be shocked to see another blockbuster deal with them that involves some of these mentioned players. The Marlins under DD are becoming what the Astros and Padres were to Randy Smith, with appreciably improved results.

Does DD every trade anyone other than the Marlins? don't give up Castellanos under any enticement IMO.

Except if that enticement involves Giancarlo Stanton.

Not familiar with his plate approach or discipline, how is he with working counts and not expanding the strike zone? If it's not great then we really don't need another zone expander we need guys that can work a count and not get over aggressive in post seasons and expand strike zones.

Better than Castellanos.

Career BB% is 10%, would be like adding another Prince Fielder in the lineup, except he plays RF and is good defensively.

Are you sure? looks like he K's a heckva lot more often and walks a bit less than Prince.

Idk...

He Ks because of poor contact skills.

And yes, he had a .405 wOBA, Fielders was .398.

While they are different hitters, in the end they were pretty much even last year in terms of production.

Giancarlo is not only a better hitter right now than Castellanos projects to ever be, but he also doesn't turn 23 until November 8th.

Oh, and he's also much better defensively than Castellanos.

It would take a ridiculous package to acquire him, Castellanos+ pretty much every valuable trade piece in the minors.

And it would be worth it.

i would be SO in favor of this, but i highly doubt the marlins will do it. they love trading away players, but usually only if theyre about to hit a big payday. he's not a FA till 2017, though his salary through arbitration will likely rise exponentially the better he plays. id say if they do trade him, it wont be for a few more years. he's still making beans right now.

Well I would love Stanton but you're basically talking about a guy who has top 10 possibly top 5 in overall trade value in the entire league. It would take everything the Tigers had to give and that probably wouldn't be enough. He's not quit Mike Trout in terms of trade value but he's pretty close.

The Marlins were dumb enough to trade Miggy so why not Stanton? And I'd give them any minor league player they wanted. And take on a piece of junk, ala Willis, to boot.

Miami only trades their top guys when the cost becomes too much. Stanton isn't going anywhere. Well, that's not entirely true. They might move him if some team was willing to take on significant salary along with sending all their top prospects.

It certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to offer Castellanos, Porcello, Peralta, Crosby, and whomever else for Reyes and Stanton. Reyes is seemingly always hurt, which makes the 17 a year (for the next 6 years) hard to swallow, but he's still an upgrade on Peralta and obviously Stanton is the major prize.
