Offseason Needs / 2013

Well I would love Stanton but you're basically talking about a guy who has top 10 possibly top 5 in overall trade value in the entire league. It would take everything the Tigers had to give and that probably wouldn't be enough. He's not quit Mike Trout in terms of trade value but he's pretty close.

Yeah, I'd say he's top 5 in trade value, and I don't think there's any realistic chance in hell of him being traded.

Was just saying, I'd easily give up Castellanos+ every prospect we have, for Stanton.

if we cant sign sanchez, what about Dan Haren? the angels couldnt trade him and declined his option tonight. one would assume he would likely command about the same contract, and aside from the injury this year (his first DL stint), he's been a darn good and consistent pitcher.

A deal between the Angels and Cubs fell through sending Haren to CHC and Marmol to LAA. Guess Cubs changed their minds because of Harens velocity drop.

rumors are that the dbacks want a SS or 3B back in return for upton. just say no to castellanos, DD! peralta can go though.

"The rumor of a Justin Upton deal to Det in a package that included Castellanos, A.Garcia & Smyly definitely makes sense if Dbacks add piece"

jim bowden on twitter. dunno whether or not to believe DD would be that unbelievably stupid or if bowden is just making shit up again.

No kidding....I hope DD isn't that stupid!

How about a Upton/Kennedy for Castellanos/Smyly/Porcello trade?

imo the dbacks have no one worth giving up castellanos for, no matter what the package.

It would be interesting if we landed Kennedy only because of the fact it would means every single one of the 7 players in the Granderson trade would have worn the Olde English D at some point in their careers.

But....pass. I'm not particularly impressed enough by Upton to even consider Castellanos.

id MAYBE be ok with it if we got trevor bauer along with upton, but only then. upton is just not good enough to give up castellanos for, let alone smyly and garcia too.

This is what I was worried about.

Sorry, $15MM per is too much for Sanchez.

10-12 is okay but 15 is too much? When you're talking that much its not much at all, IMO. The worst part of it, IMO, is the 6 years.

If Anibal is really set on 6 years 15 million, pass, big time pass. He'll be 29 at the start of next year, meaning he'll be playing his last year at 35. He was good for us, no doubt, but his history does not suggest that kind of salary. If we acquiesce to his demands, it won't be because DD is enamored with him, it will be because DD's hands have been tied by trading our top prospect (Turner) for a half year rental. We won't be paying for Sanchez, we'll be paying to make sure we didn't bomb that trade.

if we cave to his demands and pay him that much, it'll be just as bad as losing the trade (which we have officially lost now that we didnt win the WS). 6yr/90mil is outrageous for just about any pitcher aside from maybe Verlander, and even then id be wary because pitchers can so easily get injured despite his clean career injury-wise.

Sanchez is a #3, #2 at best (not on the Tigers).

$15MM is #1 money, and only a few super-aces get more than that.

It would almost double his current yearly earnings. It would be more than Jered Weaver makes.

So when I say it's too much, it's too much Mitch.
