Other Games - NCAA Basketball version

I still don't know whether what Sampson did was worth the punishment he received. I've read a number of opinions saying "it was all bullshit" but they don't provide any context beyond that.

For example, it would be helpful to know something like "Sampson did X, but other coaches do that all the time and aren't singled out and punished for it." or "Sampson called recruits when he wasn't supposed to, but during that time a lot of coaches are still calling recruits, they just do it through boosters, and Sampson made the mistake of doing it himself."

Just from listening to him talk, and his comments, I think he's kind of a pushy person, and maybe a prick, and I think he would probably feel justified openly flouting a rule if he felt it was unfair, but I don't get the sense he's as much of a sleaze as Shushevski or Pitino.

I think the biggest issue was that the NCAA kept telling him to stop doing it. Instead of stopping, he just said fuck off and kept on doing it.

That's dumb on his part.

I can sympathize with him, that it's absurd they're policing that when the NCAA is more or less openly allowing cash payments to families of top recruits...

but if you're under scrutiny, there are better ways to handle it than by being an stubborn idiot.

Exactly. Dumb move on his part, but it was over too many phone calls.

UNC commits 20 years of academic fraud and no big whoop!

And I believe it was more than one sport. You would figure after the Butch Davis incident, the NCAA would have dropped the hammer after finding out shit was going on before and after. NC basically said fuck you and didnt even self impose anything from what I recall.

You're right. They got away with by saying the fake classes were available to all students, not just athletes. BS excuse and the NCAA was just like "Oh! Ok, that's fine then! Nothing to see here. Move along.".

Iowa escapes a loss at Rutgers with a full court tip pass bank corner three. I think Rutgers did not guard the inbounds guy.
Oops. Disgusting way to lose on that type of bank shot.

UK takes down #1 Tennessee

IF Purdue finishes ahead of Michigan in the big 10, it won't be because they have an easier schedule. Purdue won at Penn State and at Wisconsin. Talk about the schedule all you want, but Michigan couldn't get it done at either location. Talk about the refs at PSU if you want, but if the Michigan starters don't turn the ball over 12 times (6 by Simpson,) JB doesn't give them 3 points on a double tech, and Michigan doesn't foul 3 3-point shooters (which looked like pretty legitimate fouls,) then this game looks completely different. Poole only scored 4 points. They didn't only lose because, "refs@!!"

Pshhh, he'll be back for the Big10 tournament. No biggie, a little hairline fracture is all. He might be back sooner.

It's still bad, and bone needs time to heal! Looks like they're not saying exactly where the injury is yet. if they rush him back, they might lose him. or he might be able to play, but without enough rest, it'll be more of a nagging injury; he wouldn't be 100%.

It could very well be nagging, but it is so close to tournament time, he may not have a choice.

when I was 12 or 13, I got a hairline fracture on my ringfinger on my left hand, right by the knuckle. It was so small they couldn't even tell in the xray. it was incredibly painful. Way worse than when I tore my achilles.

I had the fingers in a splint and hard cast for 3-4 weeks, and it took a couple weeks after I had the cast removed before I could bend the ring finger individually without pain. I had to keep my ring finger taped to my middle finger during that time to regain movement.

maybe they'll shoot him full of roids or HGH so the bone heals faster though...

I dealt with something very minor on my non-shooting hand, dislocated pinky. Guy went to steal the basketball and came down on my pinky, causing it to look like an accordion. While I was out of the little splint in a week, I could not get back to my regular shot for at least a month.

If that happened on my main hand, I would have missed a lot more time. I wish Ward was around for the games against M, but that's something very difficult to recover from in that quick time.

Actual fingers being broken is a bitch and would probably take a while, but the actual hand should be alright. Glen Rice played with a broken hand. He broke it on a dunk.

I guess this is related to other games as much is anything-in spite of the very disappointing Penn State loss, Michigan didn’t lose much ground regarding national rankings.

Still #7 in the AP poll; #8 in the NET rankings; still projected in most bracketology as a #2 seed.

This is a good thing. Surprising, actually!
