Other Games - NCAA Basketball version

timeout, we aren't going to start the what if game, are we?

It's not the what if game, it's the pointing out absurd statements game. Seemed like an odd conclusion to draw since nothing similar happened to the fab5.

Is it decided that Zion Williamson is done for the rest of the season, or is that just speculation at this point?

speculation as far as I can tell. Everything I've seen quotes krooziewooski as saying it's a mild knee sprain and the knee is stable but it's not clear how old those remarks are. As of now, it sounds like there's still a decent chance he'll play again this year. But I'm using Bing, so what I've read could be like a month old, maybe older.

The comparison to Webber is ludicrous - he was the #1 overall player in the country.

and tomdalton’s “time-out” drop was brilliant

Fab 5 was without Webber for the 93-94 season. They lost to eventual Champ Arkansas in the Elite 8......... if that counts. I know, they werent freshman, but yeah, losing Williamson is exactly like losing Webber.

Christian Laetner was the #1 overall player in 1992. He won the Wooden, Naismith, AP, USBWA, NABC, Sporting News POYs and the Rupp Trophy. Jim Jackson from OSU won the UPI POY. Webber did win USBWA Freshman of the Year. And Webber would definitely not have been taken ahead of Shaq, who was the #1 draft pick that year. He might have been taken 3rd ahead of Laettner but I doubt he would have been taken 2nd ahead of Mourning.

The following year 1993, Webber was the #1 draft pick but he didn't win any of POY trophies. Calbert Cheney won most of them with the Wooden, Naismith, AP, USBWA, NABC, Sporting News POY and the Rupp Trophy. the only other player to win a POY that year was Jason Kidd.

exactly is tough to say if we're being technical, but I don't see either team making the final as freshman without their best player. The impact would probably be similar. Both situations would be very different from like when Cinci lost Kenyon Martin.

Juwan was brilliant that tournament. 29 PPG, 12.8 RPG, 1.5 SPG.

He put up 30 points and 13 boards going head to head with Corliss Williamson. If Jalen or Jimmy were hitting their shots that day, we would have been in the Final Four.

Arkansas was hitting on all cylinders that day. I remember, I couldnt believe we lost, because Juwan was killing it. He was the Region MVP on a losing team.

Those trophies dont mean shit. The Fab 5 wasnt exactly popular amongst the writers in those days. They were seen as primadonnas and werent going to win any awards. The only player on that list that would have went before Webber on that list is Shaq. And there isnt a player alive now or in many generations that wouldve went before him(Shaq) in the draft. I dont even think Mourning wouldve went before Webber, but thats just my opinion.

Lew Alcindor (his name at the time he was drafted) and Wilt Chamberlain maybe. Maybe Bill Walton. Maybe Bill Russell.

That?s all I can think of.

I'm not basing my whole argument on the awards because they're not definitive but they mean something, particularly when one player wins all but one of them. I don't think Webber was denied any of them because of anti-Fab 5 bias after all, he won Freshman Player of the Year and he was almost certainly a top 10 if not top 5 finisher for those national POY awards. If you lag Webber by a year, I wouldn't be surprised if he was taken ahead of Mourning after his sophomore campaign but personally, I don't think he would have gone ahead of him if he came out after his freshman year. Today, he probably would go second but I think NBA teams draft differently than they did in the early 90s with greater emphasis on potential today than back then. Deyonta Davis and Jaren Jackson Jr. are good examples of that - two players that were underutilized and unable to really do what they could have yet were both very highly drafted.

They weren't seen as primadonnas. They were seen as thugs because they wore baggy shorts and had personalities. Some of them even talked shit on the court. The horror!!!!!!! Hide the children!!!

I can agree with that.

I believe "primadonna" came out of the mouth of Bobby Knight. He also said they never learned how to box out. I agree with the last part.
