Ownership Supports Caldwell

As a top GM or coaching candidate, huge red flag.

Disagreed.

Everyone knows the guy who comes to Detroit is going to be pitched by Accorsi, not the Fords. No top candidate is saying no because they like their coach.

I can't even imagine turning down a job because the owners have a history of showing loyalty to their employees. This is all just more fan bitching, with no real thought into why.

If Ernie can turn them on to a top candidate, the candidate will come in knowing they won't be crucified for their first little mistake. Owners that support employees are desired by employees, not shunned.

Sorry man, but that's just a ridiculous argument.

I'm with Cheeno. If a GM is interviewed by the Fords, and wants to bring in his own personnel, there's already going to be a conflict if the guy says "I don't want Jim Caldwell here." It really limits the possible options if Firestone has hitched her wagon to Caldwell.

The new general manager in Detroit will ultimately have final say, but ownership's desire to retain Caldwell should lead them to select a GM who feels the same.

If you can't find some argument in this Rotoworld statement, which I happen to agree whole heartedly with, that the GM search is limited by the owners desire to keep Caldwell, I can't make it any more clear.

Why?! Management is giving support to any decision the new GM makes. This is a good thing..lol. So what if they like Caldwell still? It is up to that new GM to convince that so and so is the right man for the job. Management won't have their blinders on and just want Caldwell. It's called respect.

You really think Ernie Accorsi is going through his personnel files right now looking for coaches who are likely to want Caldwell? That's how you really think he's going to make his recommendations?

That is 100% speculation. It's guess work. And to be honest, it's very flawed guesswork.

For all the people saying "Martha wants to keep Caldwell" I think they have all forgotten she told him in week 7 that his future would be based on results. Win and you might stay. Lose and you will be gone.

She wants a winner. And she's not going to let any one coach prevent that.

I'm real sure Rotoworld... a fantasy sports website.. has an inside source that has heard her say it's more important to find a GM who wants Caldwell, than to find a GM that can build a winning team and make her and her family a buttload of money doing it.

Makes ZERO sense.

Caldwell isn't even the main issue anyways. I would like to see a change but it isn't life or death IMO...

It's from Adam Schefter. Best source in the league. And if that was the case you say the new GM will decide. Period. Full stop.

What is the main issue why we can't beat good teams Tony? Stafford? Hahaha

So a company is hired to come in and fix something. The owner that does the hiring says, "Okay, we need you to completely overhaul our computer system, but you have to use Linux." It's completely handcuffing what a new person or company wants to change.

The GM should have ZERO restrictions on how he wants to build something in his eyes. Martha Ford throwing her complete support behind an embattled coach does nothing but limit what GM can do. But that's what the Lions do.

No, Schefter said the Fords supported Caldwell. Rotoworld's take that it will lead them to select a new GM who wants to retain Caldwell is pure speculation from there. It's the telephone game. By tonight, someone else will be tweeting that keeping Caldwell is a commandment for the new GM... but he will still make the final decision.

The woman graduated with a degree from Vassar in an area where women didn't go to college at all. She has grown up in board rooms and understands business.

She is going to make the decisions based on money, and the money says get a GM who builds a winner and improves fan engagement, and screw who the coach is, no matter how much you may like him.

Actually Dubs, in your scenario, yes, it would be handicapping the new company to say "You have to use Linux".

Is there a need for a distributed file system that will sync with a Microsoft 2012 server on the other end? Is there a need for LDAP to interface with a CRM where Mac OS X might make a lot more sense?

Do you need to host Microsoft SQL? Is this going to run an Apache server or IIS?

Telling someone what operating system they have to use greatly handicaps a system admin. And telling a new GM which coach he's going to keep, would handicap that GM immeasurably.

However, I have seen nothing credible reported to the effect that she has said that. Or that Wood has said that.

I've seen something more to the effect of "Hey, I really like Linux. It's very secure. But the network engineer will make the final decision".

I think we've exhausted the argument here Ink. We will have to wait and see. I think we are behind the eight ball with coaching and GM hires in a year with high turnover. This adds to the challenge IMO.

You're fucking delusional, buddy lol. Now the new GM is handcuffed? Bunch of whiny motherfuckers....its unbelievable

No doubt about it brother. We've exhausted the argument. But there's not much else to discuss either. Haha.

In the end, none of us, Schefter included, has any idea what's going on behind the scenes. It's all guesswork.

And we fans are all nervous as a whore in church wondering.

But why do you even need to say that? How about, "Our new GM will evaluate the coaching search and is completely in charge." An owner throwing support behind a coach is going to scare off candidates. It's been pretty well-documented that Martha loves Caldwell.

Pretty sure they said the GM will decide Caldwells fate.
