That's right bro. 10+ years he set us back. How can you argue? Look at his draft picks!! lol

We're dumping Mayhew draft picks and free agents now, not Millen's. Like LKP said out with the old. Millen's last connection is Raiola, the rest were gone years ago.

Check the Seahawks roster in 2008:http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/seattle-seahawks/roster/2008

They have what one maybe two players from that team? Nate Burleson and the immortal Daryl Tapp is on that team. Julian Peterson, Lawrence Jackson, Keary Colbert. This is the kind of turnover that happens in the NFL in five years and you want to blame Millen. Every team has completely different players every 5 years or less.

I guess that's my fault for comparing us to the Seahawks we can't expect the Lions to accomplish anything like that. Go 7-9 and you've stacked the roster with talent.

I wanted Mayhew to either

a) extend suh
b) make other moves to create space

then take that money and address the defense. He has holes everywhere so he could have felt free to choose a couple out of: DE, OLB, CB, S.

This is the deepest draft EVER in terms of finding a quality WR. Soooo he takes all the money we have and spends it onnnnn ...wait for it.....a WR!....but wait theres more.....Pettigrew lmao. fml...

Make the room and get peppers and one of the Cromarties and im praising mayhew right now and enjoying butter popcorn until the draft starts.

He did none of this....bottom line sitting where were at right now were slightly better on offense and our defense blows. Sound familiar?

For some odd reason, I think if Mayhew:

a) extended Suh by now, you'd find a problem with that deal and bitch about it.
b) made some other moves to create cap space you'd bitch about kicking said moves down the road for future cap hell.

There's no pleasing you.

Also, considering what Peppers and DRC signed for, explain in your best GM voice how you would get them without creating a bunch of other holes (which, in turn, you'd bitch about).

a) actually I have a problem with his current deal....ive been wanting an extension for a long time now....mayhew cant get it done.

b) God forbid a GM make moves to create cap space....that's just asking way too much. Enjoy your vacation mayhew.

There is pleasing me.....field a competitive team for once. Mayhew is incompetent. Peppers and DRC didn't break the bank.....they are on very manageable deals. We cant even afford very manageable deals....cause we suck as an organization. You lose pieces like a starting DE and S and its commonplace that you go out and replace them (see every other team in FA)......we signed a WR and Pettigrew. How can that possibly not make you want to slap your forehead? lose a DE and S....sign no one...are you guys really that homerish? cause its foolish...

I don't think the Peppers deal is that bad. Counts 3.5 against the cap this year, he can be cut next year for 5M.

For everyone that wants to field a team Madden style, where you just offer up the money and free agents join your team, have you ever stopped to think that they didn't want to come here??

How does ANYONE here know that Mayhew didn't call Peppers or DRC or Talib or Walter Thurmond.....ect?? Maybe they told their reps what teams they want to deal with and we weren't on the list. Maybe, just maybe, if I'm DRC or Thurmond I would rather be a young, multimillionaire athlete in NYC rather than the Detroit area.

I can't say Mayhew did or didn't reach out to them either way. Nobody can. But I don't just sit her bitching about what I ASSUME happened.

Idiotic.

Just not an ideal place to be..if I was a football player Detroit would be long down the list of places I'd want to be..it offers nothing. Money and a starting gig, that's it. If you can start elsewhere and make good money elsewhere why come here?

The major difference you aren't accounting for is the MASSIVE contracts that Mayhew was given from years of picking in the top 5 under the old "we pay rookies more than superstars" agreement. Like it or not, that affected business until maybe 3 years ago.

Think about it. Stafford and Suh would be under MUCH different deals right now. The Lions would have had more interest from free agents years ago......EVERYTHING would be different now if it wasn't for that ass clown Matt Millen.

Mayhew took over the WORST ROSTER IN NFL HISTORY. Probably worse than most expansion teams had to deal with. Look at the two rosters in '08. That Seattle roster has so much more talent to build with its stupid. They also, only had 1 bad contract (that I could find) that was high.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/nfl/salaries/2008/seahawks.html

Hasselbeck. about a $10M hit. And he wasn't terrible. Walter Jones....who was an all pro....was the only other highly paid player who remained the next year. Shawn Alexander was gone. The Lions took Julian Peterson.

They did draft a cap killer that year in Aaron Curry.......but besided him got to start from scratch basically.

HUGE difference in the two organizations at that time.

You seem to forget too......that the Lions would have actually got to the playoffs BEFORE Seattle did after 2008 if it wasn't for the fact that Seattle won their division with a 7-9 record in 2010 (4-2 in their division....3-7 outside of it....worst record ever by a playoff team). That was Mayhew. Is he the worlds best GM....no....but he is better that most believe. A lot of talent on this roster. Schwartz needs to be credited for taking over the worst franchise is sports and taking them to where they got......but he should have been fired after 2012. I believe things would be a LOT different now if he had.

Stop making sense and thinking rationally, Mitch......Hughes wont be able to understand what you're saying.

honestly, there's little reason... but there are the few with such massive ego's that would love nothing more than being given credit for several years for "helping the Lions right the ship and win a title"... even if it doesn't happen.

giant ego's can sometimes drive a player more than just money alone (not saying it has or hasn't happened, just that you can't discount that fact).

Why would they get credit when it doesn't happen? History says you come here you don't win playoff games. A long history, coming up on 58 years now. There are only two places where you can count on playoffs every year, NE and wherever P. Manning is. Then there are several teams where you have a good chance, a few more where it's 50-50 and then the "once in a blue moon" group. Detroit is after that..

We're like the Cubs. Regardless how much talent it looks like we have you know deep down we have no chance to do anything..

Agreed, but those type of players are typically aging veterans that have made their legacy and their money already.

Most talented young guys are either looking to start (if they've played a mostly backup role) or get PAID....which means their usually going to be resigned by whatever team they're with (most teams don't let young talented guys go when they're becoming stars).

If mayhew cant sell playing next to suh fairly and ansah..then hes the worst salesman on the planet. Why does he have a job?

You're the biggest idiot on this board if you think a guy who has been "the man" his ENTIRE life and is a HOF DE can be sold by telling him who he's going to be playing next to. LOL.

People are starting to see how dumb you really are.

Keep posting!!! Good humor for everyone else!!

Yup...a division rival got peppers. They play a scheme he never has. Reason he said he went there. ....to get a chance to play on a team led by Aaron Rodgers. Once again you spout off a bunch of stupid shit that doesn't pertain to anything cause youre an idiot.

Oh weird...booger was wrong again. Stop wasting everyone's time with your bullshit.

Aaron Rodgers is a defensive lineman???

I think you better discount double check post #192....where you mentioned playing next to Suh, Fairley and Ansah.......then explain to me how he would play "next to" a QB?

You're getting torn apart in here Sally!

So you think a guy signs with a team....doesn't take into consideration who hes playing next to, scheme, and how he will be used. Man, you really are fucked in the head.

All other things being equal yes they take it into consideration.

The fact we we may not even make the playoffs, just playing next to Suh isnt going to make a player come here instead of a playoff/contender. Well unless we over pay, which im happy to say we have not been doing.

B) They did create space....you're too dumb to see it.

Lose a DE and S? A joke of a player in W. Young...lol. Idiotic but all you. Devin Taylor and Jason Jones. Ring a bell? And we still have the draft.....

We lost Delmas. Big fn deal, he's terrible. It was time to move on

Also re-signed Bell. A fn steal of a deal and key cog in this offense. Leave it up to you to leave that out.

Then stop your fn annoying bitching about players not coming here then or putting Mayhew on blast for grabbing a WR over a DB in FA. Pretty fn simple...

Look at mayhews. Can't draft and in your words cant get free agents to come here....so what does he do, exactly?

Mayhew has drafted well. Took some chances and failed. You're not hitting on all of them.

And i never said Mayhew can't get players here, you fn dummy. I said that certain players, good players usually have their next team picked out. That's not on Mayhew. Don't put words in my fn mouth..
