Stafford Tops Sporting News' Overrated QB List

Stafford has 2 playoff appearances, if you ask LKP (or the banners at Ford Field) that's just as good.

True Super Bowl wins. It's a tragedy that hats and t-shirts weren't made.

Some are my creation, others are from a group I'm a part of. It's like a community .gif orgy.

I actually have one specifically made for LKP that I'm saving for this season. I can't wait. It's going to be fucking glorious.

That's a big teaser..oh I can't wait.

Passer rating says Stafford is 21st overall. QBR boosted him to 20th.

And that's an even bigger joke stat. Some of the QBs on that list are horrendous. Thanks for proving my point AGAIN....lmao

And golf is an INDIVIDUAL sport. Why would any of you Doom and Gloomers know this anyways??

I get people like to bitch about stats like QB rating and QBR and say they are worthless. While on a by game basis that can be true, at the end of they year looking at the final season rankings they seem to do a pretty solid job ordering the QBs play. There maybe one or two odd balls everyone now and then, however overall it's tough to argue. For the most part it gets it right.

I'd agree with that. One game is a pretty small sample size. A season gives a better overall picture.

Either way, I do think QBR is just about useless. I thought it was devised to put more weight into close games......but almost EVERY "all time best" game was a blowout. How can Charlie Batch get a 99.9 in a game that was 38-13......never close.....and he threw interceptions on more than 12% of his passes??

I don't get QBR, It's like WAR in baseball, I'm not 100% sure how they come up with the number. I've never look at it.

QB rating I do like a bit better since I at least understand how it is calculated. Single games can be skewed and inaccurate, but over the course of a season the "luck" tends to even out (despite what people say on here*) and I feel it gives a pretty accurate portrayal of the QB.

*People always remember the times they get screwed, but quickly forget the times they get the benefit. Not sure why, just human nature I guess.

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/content/qbr-espns-deeply-flawed-made-for-tv-stat/7978/

This is just one of many articles describing why QBR is a very very flawed stat, and it makes the point that QBR is a "made for TV" stat more than anything. It's pretty dead on too.

One excerpt which has already been mentioned here:

"But according to ESPN?s QBR, in 2008, both Orlovsky (51.1 QBR) and Thigpen (50.8 QBR) contributed more to winning NFL games than Super Bowl hero Roethlisberger (46.4 QBR).

Does anyone outside the film screening rooms of ESPN really believe Pittsburgh would have won that Super Bowl with Orlovsky or Thigpen under center? Made the playoffs? Finished .500?

Conversely, if Roethlisberger had played in Detroit, does anyone believe the Lions would have lost all their games? If Big Ben had been QBRering in Kansas City, would the Chiefs have doubled their total to four wins?"

And let's not forget that ESPN tried to replace QBR with TQBR a few years ago, and the numbers had Tim Tebow ranked as a much better QB than Aaron Rodgers in a week in which Tebow played in garbage time and Rodgers passed for 400 yards and three TDs.

People forget that ESPN created QBR and TQBR, and they haven't gotten it right yet.

Look at both lists again, goober. It's a joke with the names that are on that list before Stafford. And I have the problem catching on to things? Pffft lol.

Hence why I said there maybe one or two odd balls. Tell me who on the list above him Stafford is clearly better than?

Romo - Nope
Rodgers - Nope
Roethlisberger - Nope
Peyton - Nope
Brady - Nope
Brees - Nope
Luck - Nope
Palmer - Nope
Fitzpatrick - maybe
Wilson - Nope
Ryan - Nope
Rivers - Nope
Smith - Nope
Tannehill - Nope
Eli - Nope
Flacco - Nope
Cutler - They are the same player
Sanchez - Maybe
Orton - Maybe
Kaepernick - Maybe

It's not like Stafford is clearly an elite players that somehow ended up with a horrible rating. You could easily argue all those players above him are as As good to significantly better than he is.

Stafford is borderline top 5 on that list.

Your hate is obvious with Kaep, Fitz, Sanchez, Cutler and Orton comments.

Stafford is leader of tier 2 with Ryan, Big Ben, Romo and Rivers.
