The Official Notre Dame vs ][V][ichigan Game Thread

It's funny how all off-season you hear how high all the guys jump and how much stronger they've become, and how much more they understand their respective positions. Then what we really see and what the team actually does is nothing we've been told. All these 35-40" leapers and still losing jump balls to 5'10" receivers(for the td). Not putting our own receivers in these positions to make a play on a jump ball. Not putting our big strong fullbacks in when we need blocking help on the left side and completely abandoning the thought(of having fullbacks) at the goal line. What In Thee Fuck, Man? And where the hell was the spy on Wimbush's 3rd down runs? Holy Shit, Don Brown! ND has to run almost the exact same offense as Ohio St. with Wimbush in there. Christ, all us fans knew that, it took you the 4th quarter to figure it out. This defense should have been a well oiled machine with all the returning starters. You know where you go, you know what to do, and you play with smarts. They were completely lost the whole 1st half.

Wow! I missed the first 2 ND touchdowns due to the weather report being on

So...2 penalties aided the first TD drive, also.

wtf? I guess that is all that "aggression" they've been talking.

It’s called Don Brown being over aggressive and his team getting burned. Time and time again . It happened all last season . This side of the ball should have been ready and it was a a joke yesterday. A undisciplined mess. I am so disappointed the the defense more so the the shitty offense which stunk also .

I agree with everything you said .. All this fucking talk in the off season.

Yap, yap, yap.

I want to clarify my statements a little when I say dink and dunk. Im talking about quick 5 yd plays that dont put the qb in danger of getting killed. We had multiple quick out routes and some over the middle stuff that went for 1st downs in the 2nd half. If you dont have time(because of bad Tackles), sometimes the play calling gets a little boring, but at least the chains are moving and you are at least in FG range most the game. When the dbs finally start playing up, fire a quick long ball. Shit, I saw one on one coverage to the outside on more than a few occasions. Toss the ball down the sideline and let our talented receivers take over. I think as the year goes on, maybe Shea gets to shake off a call when he sees something thats open. Who knows, maybe not?

The key is points allowed . Our dumb ass coach on defense does not understand this.
Holding teams to fg over td’s. Getting off the field on fucking 3rd and 18 when we all knew The Who was going to run the ball. Not committing stupid penalties.. same old shit we play like crap on the road and lose by 7 in a game that with Halfway Competent offense and defense we win pretty easy in my opinion.

The targeting penalty at the start of the game is just not excusable at all ever.

Oh I am sure he has decent numbers the next two weeks verses crappy teams at home.
But I agree where was Evans in the first half ?

Wmu scored 42 in a 55-42 loss at Syracuse . Maybe our defense can hold them to under 25. I guess I should aim high lol..

I think I would be more worried about the offense than the D. The parts of the game that I watched, the OL looked like shit, Patterson was getting killed and they couldn't run the ball. The offense scored 10 points. You can have the best D in the country but if your offense can't score, you aren't going to be very successful.

If we hold teams under 10 we will win but I don?t disagree with you.

Thanks for reminding me. Michigan practically gifted them 2 td's with stupid, stupid penalties

The targeting on Metellus. Completely stupid play. 3rd and 9, throwing from his own endzone, pass is nowhere near the target, so Metellus takes a cheap shot, first down. Took what would've been good field position for Michigan, instead ND goes down and scores a TD.

Winovich takes 3 or 4 steps and hits Wimbush late on another 3rd down, would've been a FG attempt...nope! First down, touchdown

These guys are stupid.

The dude actually caught the ball on the targeting play on Metellus. It was already going to be a first down. Just added 15 more yards.

Yeah I read that a bit ago. Dammit! i screwed that one up, but I guess my point still stands. The penalties that Michigan committed really did them in.

As bad as the offense played, it's almost like the bonehead penalties were what killed Michigan last night and I absolutely hate that.

ND with Brian Kelley is going to have a very good O every year. A lot of people in the offseason wondered if ND would have a good O, but it's Brian Kelley.

Michigan is never going to hold every single opponent to under 10 points. I don't think any team in the nation does that.

Who would have thought Lloyd Carr would have more imagination on offense then Jim.

I know. But zero last year ?

This defense is suppose to be all world ?

as much crap as DeBord/Carr got for their offenses being vanilla, if we had even an AVERAGE offense from those years with these solid defenses, we'd be 10-11 wins every year, period. Possibly even better than that if you factor in momentum and team chemistry.

It's frustrating... I really don't understand how Harbaugh can keep this dysfunctional approach with respect to offense going. We need an identity on that side of the ball.

I agree so undisciplined its not even funny anymore.

Brown's attitude of "Solve problems with aggression" causes problems. Metellus is stupid and his overly aggressive behavior have cost this team. Last year in the Wisc game, yesterday. He is not that good! He should sit the bench or he will continue to cost this team with his stupidity.

The penalty on Winovich was borderline. He was in the process of making the hit when Wimbush threw the ball. The hit came maybe 1-2 seconds after the release. If you have a running QB they are going to get hit and you have to give some leeway. If Winovich had held up and Wimbush had pulled the ball down and run, Winovich woud be roasted. I have no problem with Winovich's play. He is aggressive but smart about it, unlike Metellus.
