'Days of Roar' Tigers Podcast: Chris Castellani joins to talk future of Detroit Tigers. 65 minutes.

On this episode: Mark and Evan have a news-packed week to catch us up, on including minor league free agents, Scott Harris at the GM meetings, coaching staff changes and more. The guys also dive into the conversation on available arms for this off-season. Later in the pod, the "Days of Roar" duo are joined by Chris Castellani of Barstool Sports. The trio talk Javier B?ez, the new hire of broadcaster Jason Benetti, and what may be on the horizon for the 2024 Detroit Tigers.

Deadline to protect players from the Rule 5 draft is 6pm.

The Tigers currently have a full 40-man roster, so some roster shuffling will need to take place. There's a few obvious names that are expected to be protected (Flores & Dingler). Does anyone else get protected?

Still expecting just RHP Wilmer Flores, C Dillon Dingler, and possibly lefty reliever Andrew Magno to be added to the Tigers 40-man.

The Tigers have signed outfielder Bligh Madris to a minor-league contract.

The Tigers claimed Madris off waivers last winter, then put him back on waivers six weeks later, ultimately sending him to the Astros for cash considerations.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Tuesday night was the deadline for teams to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft, which is held next month. If a team selects another organization?s player, they must pay his original team $100,000 and keep him on the 26-man roster for the entire season. He can also be returned but there is a penalty fee of $50,000.

Not all teams participate. In general anywhere from approximately 10-15 organizations join in each season.

Al Avila participated every year. This past season, Scott Harris did. The team?s selections have been as follows:

2016 ? Daniel Stumpf

2017 ? Victor Reyes

2018 -Reed Garrett

2019 ? Rony Garcia

2020- Akil Baddoo

2021 ? draft cancelled

2022 ? Mason Englert

Should the Detroit Tigers participate again this year? Is it worthwhile to grab talent that is inexperienced and takes up a roster space?

Or do the Tigers need to advance more quickly by putting more developed players on the roster?

Do they have enough talent ready to be promoted for the 2024 season?

These are the questions that will keep discussions going all day long here as well as with your friends.
Should the Tigers participate in this year?s Rule 5 draft?

Should the Detroit Tigers participate in the Rule 5 draft this year?

1. Yes

2. No

I have no idea what kind of players are available. If they do participate, it means that their player development / farm system isn't as good as we are hoping.
