Tigers acquire Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez

Ahh, got it. So we're gonna have to DFA Raburn or make another trade?

Yes, basically we're +1 on the 40-man because Brantley was not on it, when he left and we gained 2 players it put us over, someone has to go to make room, and that means DFA or outrighting someone.

That's what I read yesterday too. ^^^^^

As Per MLB Trade Rumors:

Meanwhile, Sanchez will provide Detroit with an established starter to go along with Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Rick Porcello and Doug Fister. Drew Smyly, now on the disabled list, provides the team with an additional option. Sanchez, 28, has a 3.94 ERA with 8.2 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 121 innings for Miami this year. He's earning $8MM this year and is on track to hit free agency after the season. The Tigers won't be able to obtain compensatory draft picks for Sanchez, since he was acquired midseason.

This also says they won't be able to obtain comp picks, which according to reports, they did.

changing leagues has a big impact. Ask Pujols, and Fielder.
What am I asking Fielder? He's hitting close to his career averages right now with a slightly higher average. Also, Pujols has really picked it up and is now hitting .280 with 18hrs and 60rbi after his brutal start. The whole switch of leagues is a bit overrated (unless you are Edgar Renteria), IMHO.

Upside of this deal for the Tigers is that they fill two needs (2B, SP), didn't give up Castellanos and have two 2013 picks in top 35 for now.

That is referring to the comp pick a team would receive for a type A or B FA.

Under the new CBA, they won't receive those picks if he signs elsewhere after the season.

Yes, but he didn't reach the majors until 2006, which is when his arbitration clock would start.

You're [probably right, but I have read like 3 things that say his 2013 contract status is arb eligable.

How long did it take Pujoles to adjust?

And Fielder was not hitting with power for a long bit, and is still not like he usually does.

And what does the damn front page of ESPN show... I can tell you it is not Infante and Sanchez... ESPN can kiss my ass...

The key part of that statement , to me anyways, is the underlined part.

Notice it does not say "will be a Free Agent", it says on track, which is why I'm wondering.

I am stunned that the Tigers were able to make this deal. Is DFA'ing Raburn the next step?

Who cares about a popularity contest Bob? We landed bigger impact players by far.

That just means unless he signs an extension, he'll be a FA.

I think he's a free agent. This was written in Feb. '12 prior to this season starting...

"Sanchez was in his final year of arbitration and is eligible for free agency after next season."
