Tigers and MLB 2018 offseason

They certainly didn't look like it last year. Not every good farm system translate into winning baseball. They haven't ha a winning season in 8 years. I rather us become the Cardinals.

true, a good farm system doesn't always translate to winning baseball. But it certainly doesn't hurt.

As far as becoming the Cards...I would love that...that would have meant the Tigers would have let Miggy walk a few years ago vs. having that huge contract over their heads for the next 5 years. One can dream!

It doesn't hurt but it's the White Sox after all.

I read a site where Detroit system is ranked 14th. That's not bad. Probably 2020 when you see a few like Mize for example.

The Tigers top 5 prospects are all starting pitchers. MLB pipeline has the top 3 (Mize, Manning & Perez) with ETAs of 2020. Their 4 & 5 guys (Faedo & Burrows) have ETAs of 2019. I think 3 of the 5 will be in the rotation at the beginning of 2020.

I assume Stewart gets a gig this season. DH? Or maybe some left when and if Nicky gets traded.

Well Mitch to be like the Cardinals team and their philosophy, Chris Ilitch has to sell the Tigers and the new owner would have to kick 90% of the shit hooks out of the front office leaving Kaline Willie Horton and Alan Trammell.

I'm okay with that.

The Tigers have several other pitchers in the low minors and sprinkled around
A AA who could make a name for themselves by improving velocity and command. At least having many in the minors pipeline gives them the opportunity to deal from a strength; that is picking who is in the rotation, who can have better success as a swingman sport start and relieve, and who might get FB velocity increas and other pitch success by becoming a reliever.
Then they can also deal in a trade from the plethora of pitchers.
Should they when the time comes 2020, 2021, 2022, Yes, because the positional players they have, and some are good, are flawed with most all with lack of power,
Will they? who knows what the front office will do when you have idiots running the system. I mean look at JV and the success he has had since the trade; increased spin rates on FB,
Sanchez with another team/braves with smarter pitching coach and analytics dept.

If getting rid of everybody is what it takes, Chris Illich could to that himself. He just has to pull the trigger.

Of course, we don't know if Kaline, Horton, and Tram know what they are doing either. They may not be doing anything helpful other than keeping people from the past around the organization.

I did some reading about the pitching in the Tigers minor league system...I like what I see. I just hope that some of them reach their full potential.

Tom, On the surface, and all that has transpired the past 2 to 3 years, I don't think Chris Ilitch is a mover and shaker, he seems to be content with who they have in the front office and to a degree the late Mr. I was also loyal to a fault.

imo, young Ilitch just wants to let the teams managing committee do business as usual, which for us, as we see other teams leap past us for 5 to upwards of 10 years have an advantage that the Tigers are trying to get closer in the rear view mirror.
Somewhat similar is what the Red Wings have been dealing with too, with Ken Holland. Fans can only hold onto past glory for so long, and see how the GM is not bringing in quality talent in the draft, trades, and free agency.

For sure we don't know if the 3 greats from the past are in the 21st century with all the analytics, but still for this old Tigers fan and probably many others, I am glad they are there.

Why Tigers? fans should actually care about the Asdrubal Cabrera and Tim Beckham signings.

Clown shoes does it again.

OK article...but we don't know if the Tigers had any conversations with Cabrera or Beckham. They could have said they didn't have any interest in Detroit.

Also, I'm not so sure that I would call Seattle a rebuilding team. They did win 89 games last year.

I've come to the conclusion that the team of little Illich and no nothing Al don't want to spend any money. They will ride it out with waiver claims guys. And over the hill, never got to the hill bums.

that's fine for now.

It's okay to spend money. Just not 7,8,10 year contracts. Get some real ML talent. Just don't fold up like a discounted pizza pizza.

The problem is, they will have to overspend to get anybody to come here because the team is so bad. They need to build the team up with homegrown talent until they get respectable...then spend on free agents (if needed) in order to compete.

Give some guys more money just not the years. Get 2-3 solid players.. They don't need to be stars just not slugs. I know that's easier said than done, they have to want to come here. But now besides losing games they're going to lose the fan base.
