Tigers and MLB 2018 offseason

https://www.blessyouboys.com/2018/1...etroit-tigers-non-tender-deadline-alex-wilson
Tigers non-tender James McCann, Alex Wilson.
McCann and Wilson will hit the free agent market after four years with the Tigers.
BYBTB

Blaine Hardy's projected $ 1.5 million would be the sixth highest salary on the Tigers' payroll as of today.

Scratch head unsure to the thinking. Need soft wall for butting head against. I mean does this really make since. Sign one with a 6+ era, starter and cut one under 4 reliever, and they need relief. Dumbfounded, They lost me in the shuffle, I do not see the plan here.

I think the plan was to get rid of one of the worst catchers in MLB and get rid of a 32-year-old relief pitcher who was going to get paid $3M and isn't really very good

Isn't really very good?

There are 29 other teams who would love to make room for Alex Wilson and his $3 Mil. The same cannot be said for some other Tigers and their value.

Guys, sorry to say this, but the plan is to lose badly for a few years and get high draft picks. Remember when they lost 100 games back in the 90's? Well, we are going there again, and it will not be pretty for a few years. That's just the way it is.

The NY Mets seem to be willing to add payroll. Maybe we can ship Miggy out of here.

For what? We'd be worse have no good prospect in the deal just to save some money where there is no cap. I don't see how that works for us.

29 other teams?

Wilson must have been available at the trade deadline last year. If he is a good pitcher and a value at $3M, don't you think teams would have been after him? If the Tigers didn't value him, wouldn't they trade him for a bucket of balls?

FA so different than a trade where someone had to give you something. But if we're going to not sign a guy he wouldn't have been my first choice.

Once again you miss the boat.

I didn't miss anything. You claim that 29 teams would love to have Wilson for $3M. I do understand that trading him, the other team will have to give up something. But if they aren't willing to give up anything...is he really a value at $3M?

I'm guessing that Wilson has teams knocking down his door to sign with them...he will probably get way more than $3M...since you think he was such a value. :lmao:

Whatever. You are extremely cynical when it comes to financial reality of baseball. Certainly, each team's finances might dictate whether they actually pursue Alex Wilson. On merit, given the ability have that spot, $3 Mil for Alex Wilson and what he provides is a drop in the bucket. At $3 Mil, he is more valuable than Matt Moore at $2.5 mil.
