Trade Deadline Deals thread for Tigers

Was hoping to see some moves by now. I’m assuming that just means that Al is starting with high price tags on our guys which is better than giving them away for nothing. Seen Fiers, Liriano, Greene, Iggy, McCann as players mentioned to have any interest from a team or two. I’d be fine with any of those guys and Nick being dealt.

I think there are a lot of sellers out there this year. That and the fact that what the Tigers have to offer is pretty much garbage.

There?s some value in Fiers and Liriano. Even Iggy and Greene could bring a prospect to the right team.

Listen. Anyone DET trades has to be added to another team's 40-man roster. They either have to trade someone from their 40-man roster or waive someone from the 40-man roster on top of any prospect they trade. Candy was blocked on the Cubs and they risked losing him to Rule 5 draft. They wanted Wilson and Avila because they were better than what they had and was worth more to them that what they gave up.

Who are the trade partners? Generally playoff teams. Does anyone actually think Liriano is better than what a playoff team would have to give up off their 40-man roster or what they would have to waive to get him? That is where the question lies. For Iglesias, what team needs a SS and would Iglesias actually make them better for the next 2 months or into the post season? DET can be willing to trade anyone, but they other team needs to think that player makes them better. And not just by a little bit.

Right now, with Gary Sanchez being injured, would the Yankees take on a James McCann? He is certainly better and more dependable than Kyle Higashioka. The return in this case is NOT going to be anything more than probably Kyle Higashioka himself and a low level prospect. Think in those terms.

I think Liriano would help any teams bullpen in the hunt right now. He absolutely owns lefties. Just gotta find the right match. For example, I could see Boston as a potential partner. They could use back of the rotation depth too so a Fiers and Liriano package might bring a couple players back.

Seems like they did a pretty decent job of identifying prospects with talent last deadline because I see a lot of those kids having success this year.

I have been doing something I haven't done in years, and that is listen to a boston based sports radio talk/call in station. They have been going nuts over the yankees getting better with britton from baltimore and now happ from the blue jays.
The red sox traded for eovaldi from the rays. They are going nuts over Dombrowski trading away all their good prospects, and have garbage left in the system.
In fact, MLB pipeline came out with their top 100 prospects and the sox are the only team without even 1 player make it. Surprising as it may sound the Tigers have 5. They might have had a couple but groom is on the DL and chavis - spelling is banned for Peds.
idk or think Avila would trade those two you mentioned to boston, maybe he would, and be happy for a couple of prospects who wouldn't make the Tigers, idk.

OK. So BOS needs to make room for 2-players on the 40-man roster.

Choose 2-players from the BOS 40-Man that DET should get back in such a deal. The selection is limited or next to nothing.

Maybe they have 2 major injuries by then.. Or shift a 10 day injury to the 60 day DL. How do trades normally happen at this time.. they find space if they're interested.

Now we are hoping for injuries in order to have a trade partner. But that is what happened when Gary Sanchez went down. I have heard NYY is looking for catching depth. Heck, even Hicks would/should considered.

And then back to the first premise. They have to think Hicks, Liriano and/or Fiers is better than what they release/give up enough to make a difference. Not just slightly better. For teams already guaranteed a playoff spot (i.e. BOS, HOU), that player isn't for the rest of the season, it is for the playoffs. So it isn't guarding against current injuries, but for the post season. Additionally, will that player make a huge difference in the playoffs. Back end starter (Fiers) become bullpen arms. LOOGYs could never have to pitch in the playoffs. So the teams that would be interested in them are those struggling to make the playoffs in the first place.

That's how trades happen sometimes.. Starter gets hurt, we need someone for the pennant race.. Sports 101. Weather he's valuable is beyond the point. Most teams have a full 40 but trades still happen..

Why the fuck would we worry about what Boston does with their 40 man???? Boston was just a made up scenario as an example. They had already got their back end starter before my post.

Phillies Have Considered Jose Iglesias.
The Phillies, after missing out on Manny Machado, would at the very least like to add a defensive upgrade at shortstop. Interestingly, the Phils have at least had internal discussions about reacquiring Freddy Galvis from the Padres.
He also lists the Rays? Adeiny Hechavarria and the Tigers? Jose Iglesias as players that the Phillies? front office has considered. The Phils have also been tied to Eduardo Escobar since Machado went to L.A.
