Training Camp MEGA thread

Flukes always continue. Flukes are a part of sports my friend. Been happening since they didn't wear helmets back when there was only Michigan vs Rutgers in college football. Strange things happen. It's not exclusive to the Lions, nor will it stop happening.

Every team deals with it. It's the good teams that overcome. The Lions are not a good team. Maybe they will be someday.

Some years you have more than others. Some years you have less. Maybe 2014 we have less. The Lions have the talent to overcome with normal health. And now possibly the coaching to overcome too.

By team doesn't matter for Detroit other than opponents on that particular game day. And I didn't see many by our opponents last year. There were some (RG3 fumble for instance) but not as many as Detroit had. And Detroit still deserved to beat the Redskins by outplaying them. Game by game is all I care about. I don't worry about other teams. I worry about what it takes to get Detroit to 10-11 wins.

Just know flukes don't always continue going forward. There will be some in 2014 but maybe not as many. We'll see.

Turnovers can reduce several ways. Stafford improvement, weapon improvement (separation/sure hands) and a reduction in flukes (tipped balls hit the ground instead of lucky picks, fumbles follow physics and go out of bounds) and better recovery rates by Detroit on both sides of the ball.

The start of the ESPN article about the game:

LANDOVER, Md. -- Robert Griffin III went head-first instead of sliding, so when the ball popped out it was a fumble.

Aldrick Robinson had a touchdown catch in his hands, but he couldn't quite maintain possession as he hit the ground in the end zone.

Thanks to the turf, the Detroit Lions have ended 74 years of road failure against the Washington Redskins.

If the situation was reversed and those things happened to the Lions YOU would be calling that game a "TRUE WIN" for the Lions.

I was at that game in person. Lions outplayed the Skins. That non catch was a bad throw by RG3. It would have been very difficutl to haul that in. That was not a fluke.

A few plays can change a game, like over throwing Bush in the flat for an easy TD. Compare the 2.75 drops a game, and subtract that from the 3.92 over throws a game.

Like all the drops in the 4th when Stafford was playing amazing against Pittsburgh. 27 points in Pittsburgh. Plus a fake FG (30 points). That is more than doing your job by Stafford. The pick blame goes to Riddick and Ross on 1st and 2nd down that play. Nothing else to do but heave it on 3rd down.

If it was Stafford that threw that ball you would have blamed the drop on the WR...it did hit his hands. He CAUGHT the ball and dropped it when he hit the ground. You are such a biased homer!

It wasn't a drop. It was a clear overthrow and the guy had to dive. It wasn't counted as a drop.

Subtract 2.75 from 3.92.

Stafford's true completion % just went down.

Throwaways, tipped balls, separation problems. It just went up.

And the drop % was 9 %. A normal 6% adds 3% to his comp %. 61.5. Then you have tips, throwaways and separation problems

64% to Calvin,Pettigrew,Bell/Bush,Burleson.

46% to Durham/Ogletree/Ross/Edwards/Dickerson.

Clearly Stafford wasn't the problem.

Oh you're so fun.

he didn't dive...he went to the ground after it was in his hands and the ball came loose. Watch the tape!!!

He dove into the endzone and trapped the ball on the ground. I was screaming incomplete the second it happened to about 90,000 Redskin fans. It wasn't a drop.

PFF lists no drops under Aldrick Robinson for that game. You lose. Big time.

And drops aren't flukes.

watch the tape. 1:56

he is wide open and he catches it looking backwards and his momentum takes him to the ground then the ball comes loose. He didn't dive...he fell to the ground and the ball came out.

He is going to the ground. It's a dive. he's not laid out but it's a dive And most importantly, it's not a drop. It's a tough catch from an overthrow on a tough deep ball. Not a drop, not a fluke, an incredibly tough catch. And the Lions have tons of plays like that too, that I DO NOT label flukes. Completing the process happens. Durhams fumbles do not. That ball goes out of bounds 9 times out of 10.

If we arecounting that as flukes, the Fauria pick 6 against the Giants is then a fluke.

And if we are counting that as a fluke, Hall pressing Calvin was a fluke, leading to a pick 6 (Calvings fault). Fluke by Calvin if we count that most likely always a non catch a fluke.

The Lions making the playoffs is a fluke, which is proven by all the wild card game losses, they don't belong....

And why did Robinson go to the ground. Slight overthrown. Like I originally said.

I'm not counting that as a fluke...I am saying that the catch was made and he dropped it. If that's not classified as a drop by PFF then they have no clue what a drop is. He clearly had it in both hands and when he went to the ground the ball came loose. Not a dive since he was clearly on both feet when the he caught the ball...momentum carried him to the ground.

LOL. PFF is usually higher than most sites with drops. The fact that wasn't a drop says everything. Clearly not a drop.

He was on his feet but the slight overthrow carried him forward. It's a process rule and ended up being a trap. It's not a drop due to the toughness of the catch.

You know damn well that catch isn't made very often. Probably why PFF didn't make it a drop.

And if that's a drop, the Lions had about 100 drops.

do you know what an over throw is? (you should watching Stafford) That ball was on the money...if anything it was slightly under thrown since the WR had to slow down a bit to catch it. I have no idea why he went to the ground...it looked as if he really didn't need to go to the ground at all.
