Xanders interviewing for Dolphins GM opening

And another thing with the draft. Each team is in a different situation with different needs. I thought the front office took Spievey to be a CB and then the coaching staff wanted to make him a safety. Wasn't that the rumor or was it the other way around.

Spievey was a CB in college. I thought I read or heard that Schwartz was begging for a high round safety but never got one. They took Spievey and he instantly moved him to safety. That's what I remember ...I could be wrong.

He sucks dude, too bad Slick didn't stay and you go..oh well the cross we all bear..

Nah, he doesn't suck. You're just dumb. I feel sorry for you. He's brought loads of talent into this organization. Starters too. They just need to be smarter and get back to basics..disciplined football.

You don't see it. I'm not surprised. Your football knowledge is comical. You're a walking talking carnival act ...nobody takes you serious.

Mayhew is fine. He's brought all kinds of talent onto this football team. They're just undisciplined. You're just too fn stupid to see it. Not your fault, you were just born that way.

All you need to know about Mayhew is that before Xanders came they didn't have an internal scouting database. This was in the second decade of the second millennium. I have a fucking draft database on my computer for my fantasy football league and this guy is drafting off of a stack of spiral notepads. Did you read what Mayhew said about Xanders he basically gave him credit for the UDFA talent, saying he changed the way they went after UDFAs. The guy is a true holdover from the Millen regime, where I guarantee nothing was automated he just went after some buckaroos with his gut.

That shit had to be a joke...lol. Cmon man. Spiral notepads? Dude...

I've given Mayhew a hard time in the past and some will say rightfully so, others will say wrongfully so. When I read that Mayhew was joking about that like there was nothing wrong with not having an internal scouting database I was like WTF. But then I got to thinking you tend to go with what you know, and what he knew before him was Millen and how he ran the show GM, of course you learn from the guys mistakes and put your own knowledge and experiences into your decision making but things like that he didn't know existed and is common place at every level (recruiting at the college level etc.). If you told me Millen never heard of using a computer I would believe you wholeheartedly, Mayhew only knew his experiences from Millen and while his mistakes shaped Mayhew and made him better, his methods were all Mayhew knew and held him back. But how this isn't a bigger story I'll never know.

I don't believe it, bro. He had to of been joking. I understand that you learn from your bosses and such but to not have an internal scouting database? No way, man. What about all the Lions scouts that look at hundreds upon hundreds of kids a year, maybe more? They're handing him scribbled notes and jibber jabber and he's going on gut feelings? No chance ... I refuse to believe it. lol

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that that was possible of a professional organization. You wonder how a team can flounder for 50 years, its this stuff.

My favorite part was when he said he "would be proud to have work for him (Xanders)"

Lol.

Hindsight is 20/20. We have no idea if Seattle thought Spievey or Major Wright or Morgan Burnett was ahead of Chancellor. Nobody knows what their draft board looked like. Seattle never got the opportunity to choose in Round 3 or if they did, maybe the guy they picked (not Chancellor) most likely had a higher grade than the safeties at the time.

You are assuming they had Chancellor over all those guys. The only thing we know is they had Chancellor higher than all the guys taken after that pick (not before).

we were talking about a mock. that's the opposite of hindsight moron.....

This wasn't hindsight but my very own personal evaluation of the players. I didnt have Spievey inside of the 5th round. So the third was way overvalued imo. Hindsight is 20/20 but thats not what this is. I have supported mayhew at every turn because I think he has the right ideas and has found some good players. But we saw this past year what a good draft plan can really do. For those keeping track they ended up with 4 guys I thought we should target and they all excelled. So basically I am Xanders. Wonder if I can get a paycheck.

I called two of our first three picks and mocked a db with the other, in February...I'm Spartacus
...I mean, I'm Xanders.

mayhew *cough xanders cough* actually tried this new idea of picking people that would play and produce instead of 5th string WRs.....weird how that works out.

I heard Broyles rehab is going well.

"One of the things the 42-year-old former Broncos general manager did was install an internal database for scouting, one Mayhew joked will stay with the Lions even if Xanders lands the Miami job."

Yeah, b/c using a Rolodex and index cards arranged alphabetically must've been his MO previously...ye gads!!

"I would think that he's not going to be with us for a real long time. He's really good at what he does."

Yeah, b/c obviously the Lions abhor keeping anyone around who might have the slightest clue and are good @ what they do...

Oooooohhhhh... that's cold, man.

BTW: Trading Places is probably the best 80's comedy. For anyone who hasn't seen it I highly recommend it.

I'm impressed. Your taste in movies is impeccable.

Rd 1 SOooo....Stafford was arguably a good pick. Yes he still is the franchise qb...but is he worth the money or a #1 pick overall? Hes outperformed the other potential picks from that draft...but it was a poor draft. Pettigrew people have argued on both ends. I still contend you can get people in rd 5 that does what he does...which is supposedly block above average and run a 6 yard curl 30 times a game. Suh was a great pick...a no brainer pick....but still a great pick. Best was the pick that sent me over the edge on mayhew. fairley was a great value that fell...nice pick. Reiff was a great value that fell...nice pick.

Rd 2 = yuck

Rd 3 has been saved by levy taking steroids this year and I think Bentley is fine in the slot if he can stay healthy.

Rd 4 Hill was a nice back up but we didn't keep him. the rest is yuck

Rd 5 lmao

Rd 6 7 who cares
