2014 Mock Draft Thread

Maybe i'm a bit behind on Barr, but isn't he looked at as 3-4 only?

hes 6'4'' 244 and young...definitely has the frame to put on some size. One of his cons is he has very little experience at lb or in coverage. As far as the lions are concerned you have space eaters in suh fairley and ansah.....id have no problem with a speed guy opposite ansah.

in comparison with our starting DE last year willie young.....who is 6'4'' 250 lb...not much of a difference.

trade up
1 watkins

pick at 10..i really have no preference between the 2.
1a barr
1b gilbert

trade down
1 pryor
2 hageman
3 dennard
4 evans

If we were able to trade down I'd rather target Clinton-Dix before those guys. But I obviously would like any of those guys if we on the high improbability were able to trade down.

Much rather have a rookie Barr starting opposite Ansah than Willie freaking Young. Just don't think the new staff is going to be willing to put all their eggs in one basket per say with taking another d-lineman.

like Clinton dix but I got pryor over him at safety. So I wasn't going to put 2 safties on the list.

Honestly, with a better secondary i think willie young and the DL would be much better. I would think unless barr is going to be a dominant pass rusher in our 4-3, any high rated DB would be a higher priority. That said, if none are available and watkins is gone, i wouldn't be opposed unless a trade can be made.

No guarantees obviously but chances are Barr be a dominant pass rusher in any system. Kony Ealy may be the best edge rusher in the draft and should be looked at at 10. DE is high priority.

In my opinion Young just isn`t that good. Ansah has a chance to be a double digit sack guy but other than that there just isn`t alot of speed comming off the edge.

I don`t buy the argument that the secondary is stopping the DLine from getting more sacks either. They were the worst in the league in sacks from the DE position and there is a plenty of teams with worse secondaries than ours.

I was an Avril fan while he was here and the argument I heard from a lot of fans is that you can plug in anyone next to Suh and they can get double digit sacks, that seems not to be the case. I`m fin with letting Young walk and picking up a pass rusher in the middle rounds to spell Jones in passing situations.

He is awesome but there is no way this team can spend another 1st on a D-lineman. Only way I`m ok with it is if they trade Suh

Why not? It won the G-men a couple rings. D-End is the second or third most important position in the NFL. Letting Avril go as much as he was hated on, he may have been the Seahawks MVP in the playoffs. If you have a quarterback and a LT you need an abundance of top notch D-Ends. We don't have that.

I would argue a DE is more in play if Suh stays. You boost everyone with his retention. In the NFL you have to do one thing better than everyone else. Keep building our Dline and it may just be rushing the passer.

I think I'd be ok taking Ealy at #10 (we'll have to see if he's a good value there once the combine is over), but that would basically force the Lions to take a WR in round 2 or 3. I don't have a problem though taking a very talented DE to strengthen our D-line. I think our secondary will improve with Slay being more experienced, and with our new coaching. Combine a very disruptive D-line with a slightly improved secondary, and I'd feel pretty good about our defense.

Giants did it a different way they drafted high at DE (JPP and Kiwanuka in 1st)(Osi in 2nd)(Tuck in 3rd) and mixed late round picks and free agent vets at DT. If you Draft two DT`s that high you need to be more like the Vikings or the Jags of 10 years ago, develop pass rushers around them to take from that strength in the middle.

I'm all for a DE. Might have a new rookie scale, but it's still QB, the guy who protects the quarterback (LT), and the guy who kills the quarterback (DE).

Don`t forget, there is a good chance they take a TE in the top 3 if they let Pettigrew walk. That could be a WR and TE in 2 of the top 3 picks

If he does walk I don't see TE above WR, CB, DE or LB.

True, but I think it`s about time they invest a first round pick in that back 7. Need to spread the wealth a little bit defensively

It`s the lions, they love thier offensive toys. How often have you said you would be surprised if they took a WR in the top 3 rounds? Ive lost count myself
