2015 Cap

Worry about those years when they come...You play for the moment, it's the NFL!

Re-sign Suh and make it work for the 2015 season.

That's the mentality that has put us in cap hell evert fucking year, but hey, it's not our money, FoRd will have no issues with 80 mill in SB and all the other base salaries, wtf, I'll lose money, just for the fans

We are not in cap hell. 17 million under right now. Smart restructures. No free agent problems in 2013/2014 offseasons. Mayhew/Lewand knows the cap rises. Rookies are now cheap. Lions are smart when it comes to the cap.

I know one thing, we're not forking out 80 mill in sb/restructing, ain't happening

it would be more like 60 million. 40 Suh, 10 Fairley (3 year deal), 8 guard.

And then pre-pay stafford, calvin partial, quin and tate in march instead of sep-dec.

That is very likely.

Draft we are paying anyway. Pick 23 got 4 million SB last year.

And with a suh long term deal, we wouldn't need to make four restructures.

Your still looking at over 15mil in prepaids due in 60 days...plus some for prater, your FA OG, it adds up, plus rookies at over 7.
hey, we have a difference of opinion, that's what this board is for

you don't pay the rookies until July.

And actually there is way to defer signing bonus cash payments. I believe that happened with Ware a couple years ago. So no they may get "signing bonus" but it won't all be paid in March.

http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/news/story?id=6555015

When Ware renegotiated his contract in October 2009, he received a $20 million signing bonus, but $1 million of that was deferred to the spring of 2011. Ware's 2010 base salary was $7.8 million, but $5.8 million of it also was deferred to the following year.
NFL teams defer some salaries and signing bonuses for cash flow purposes.

Suh could get a 40 million SB and get paid 20 million in cash 2015 and 20 million in 2016. The point is he is owed that money guranteed. So it counts over life of contract, 5 years max.

Cash flow is very different than the cap.

Like I said we agree to disagree, I guess we do agree paying the tag amount is retarded

60 million in new spent money is more accurate. And you can defer payment. There is nothing to disagree about.

And no paying the tag is not dumb. He'll be franchised (Feb 16-Mar 2 is the dates) and hopefully then works out a deal by March but probably not until May/July. Keeping Suh is the priority. Even if we tag him, we'll have room to spend like I showed. 38 million-26.7.

I just can't see the Lions letting him go. They would have 17 million in cap space and could create more (up to 21) but Suh is this defense.

Suh and Austin back, we have a top 5 defense again. You don't just let that walk out the door for a 3rd round 2016 comp pick and cap space.

Fairley re-sign,Mosley,Knighton (or similar caliber), 2nd round DT would be the backup plan plus cap space.

I still think that's a step back and then you are relying on Fairley's health. We would need a much better left end than Jones. Ansah is fine and will be a stud but you wonder what life without Suh would be for him too.

How have we been in cap hell every year? What players have we not been able to re-sign due to cap space? In the mean time we have brought in players like Bush, Tate, Tulloch, Quinn, ect...

It seems to me like Mayhew has kept the core together while also bringing in impact free agents on a yearly basis. People just bitch to bitch. When it comes to cap space in Mayhew I trust, he's proven it EVERY YEAR!

Like I said, I can get 3 pro bowlers and a 1st round pick for the same compensation..

Cliff avril, but let's face it we started with nothing in 2009. How many FA couldn't we sign is the question

But you lose an all pro. We can still keep an all pro and get 2 other pro bowlers (Fairley and a good guard). Or a CB and guard with no Fairley.

If we franchise Suh and he refuses to sign, then you think about a trade. But that will be closer towards the draft after free agency is pretty much over. At that point you take the first rounder and you better have signed Fairley and Mosley back at that point.

If he's so good why are we looking at a 27m tag for Suh? When you keep extending people/restructure you leave yourself without a way to keep a talented DT for a year.

All GM's fit within the cap, they have to .. it's like a rule. I don't give him credit for that. Now if we hit on more draft picks and actually have an offense and defense that do well the same season he'll deserve some praise. You know what else he's proven, WE DON'T WIN PLAYOFF GAMES.

It was the right move at the time keeping Avril. He had one average year as a vet, 2012 unfortunately. 2011, 2013 and 2014 he beasted.

2012 was our tightest year yet we brought back who we wanted too. Avril franchise, Backus, Shaun Hill, Levy restrictred, Lee-Hill restricted and signed Tulloch long term.

Unfortunatley Peterman and KVB regressed big time, Avril was average, our WRs and secondary had too many injuries. Plus no run game before Bell took off and Bush arrived.

How do you trade a 27m DT? And after FA is over so people have less money.

We made room for Quin, Levy, Bush, Tulloch etc. Great job Mayhew. That was the Suh restructures. Old CBA is why we are looking at 26.7 million.

It's still a high number without the restructures.

non exclusive tag. They can negotiate a deal. The other team doesn't pay 27 million. Try to keep up.
