Bust Alert: Lions submitted claim for Pats/Bucs TE Tim Wright

Lions go 11-5 and they are down in the dumps.

They don't give the Lions much credit for several wins. Where do you think my true wins came from? It's just the opposite of the haters Lions "lucky" win term.

Looking forward to next season, not rehashing last year. I fully expect the Lions to go FURTHER this year. Healthy Tulloch, we should get a feel for what Van Noy brings, Ansah reaching a next level, see if Slay takes a step forward or a step back this year, Abdullahs skillset is starting to get me antsy, Ebron in year 2, will the d line look similar or will we see a big dropoff, will we see a huge running game incline due to a revamped oline and another impact player added to the backfield, will Joique Bell play a diminished role because of the players added, or because of his current health status? What am I missing? Imo, this season should be an interesting one, and is well worth looking forward to. Go Lions!!!

The Lions roster is loaded with talent. As much or more talent than 2014. Nobody can deny this. I can't wait either.

On offense, I agree. On defense, nobody knows. For all we know, not having Suh, we could see a huge dropoff. Who knows?

Our back 7 and DEs are loaded. Plus we have Austin and depth. Ngata is a very good player.

Walker, Wright and Reid have some talent but are unknowns not proven bad. Plus compared to 2014, all 3 are better. Walker for 16 games over Fairley for 7, Wright is a better pass rusher than Mosley skill wise and Reid in year 2 over rookie Reid. Plus Tulloch behind them for run support.

Defensive line is the biggest unknown. The Suh loss is going to be huge. Ngata playing a position he hasn't for years will be an adjustment, he should have the talent to do it easily, but he is a drop off from Suh, can't see anyone arguing this.

The rest are truly unkowns, Walker is a hot name around here, however when the Lions played the Saints, he didn't do a thing that I can recall against a questionable O-line. Reid..2 tackles in around 100 snaps.

People can try and spin all they want, but that is a whole lot of ?'s.

While it's only practice, sounds like some progress. Best part was he stayed after to hit the JUGS machine. Will it transfer to game improvement..who knows. Putting on pads, knowing a hit is coming changes things.

I agree. He's working at his craft though, so obviously he knows that he has things to work on. I think that proves that mentally, hes doing what he should be doing if he wants to be the guy people expect him to be. Hope he keeps this work ethic though out the season, and keeps that chip on his shoulder from the criticism he got this year.

DT 2-4 are upgraded IMO. Ngata is a better run defender than Suh though it will be tough to top a top 10 run d in history like the Lions had. Still have many of the same cast plus Ngata and Tulloch. Pass rush of Suh won't be topped but I think overall the Dline and blitzers can provide more pass rush than the Lions had last year. We were 8th in sacks. People act like we were number 1 by far. We've upgraded in some places with pass rush. Plus the whole year 2 of scheme.

But we still have Austin and very good DEs and back 7. We will blitz well. Ansah, Jones, Ngata and the others in support can provide pressure. Walker graded very well against the run and with a pass rush (and he wasn't playing next to Suh).

This team won't live and die by DTS 2-4 either. Ngata is still a beast that gets doubles. And I'm postive Ansah saw some doubles and chips last year too and still did very well.

Agreed for the most part. This Dline could be a beast or, it could be a disaster.... too many ?'s to know until week 1 kickoff.

I do like the potential of this D-line, though. Reid, Walker and Wright all have potential. And, at 23, 25, and 23 years old....they could be a load for a while! Ngata is the anchor. Still a top line talent, so hopefully the drop off from Suh won't be too much to overcome.

I just hope the potential = production on Sundays (and Mondays, Thursdays......)

Wow. Hope springs eternal. A lot of ifs and buts in these posts. The Dline will be worse, that is a given. Austin will try to mask it with more blitzing which may be good may be bad depending on how other teams can adjust and our back 7 hold up.

On offense the line to me again is a question mark predicated on the health of Warford and the ability to adjust to the pro level in Tomlinson. Swammy is replacement level Crayola which isn't saying much and the RT is a revolving door. Stafford is the worst quarterback I've seen in terms of pocket presence and his year is dictated by the oline's ability to block and his recievers to get open.

Speaking of that Ebron just doesn't have it. He can do all the jugs machines he wants. All sports are 90% mental he doesn't have that look to me and although it could develop over time is often just doesn't snap in overnight. ODB has that, its not *just* his athleticism. Swag or whatever you call it. CJ and Tate can be Batman and Robin when healthy, Lombardi and Stafford need to utilize both better when they are in the game at the same time.

Abdullah can be Bush when healthy I just hope they take advantage of Riddick in the slot instead of him not seeing the field anymore like he did for stretches last year. Bell is a year older and the injuries are taking a toll. Fingers crossed he can hold up a whole season, a full compliment of Abdullah helps no one. Get me Leshoure's number and his 5.0 40 year dash time just in case.

The schedule is significantly harder to me with a team that is on paper at best on par with last years. Let's hope for a progression on offense and some great adjustments to a blitzing defense by Austin and we should be competitive this fall.

That is a fair assessment. Personally, I think the run defense will be worse which will have a negative impact on the passing defense due to down and distance situations. The kicking game should be better. The offense is still a question mark due to huge questions with the O Line. Bell is nothing special so a lot of pressure will be on the rookie.

I thought so, it was a bit of stream of consciousness so it could use a few syntax adjustments and commas. Your statement about the possible run game regression is very true. One thing I didn't take into account is that it is pretty hard to blitz on third and short.

You say this post but you don't give Stafford a pass for his down and distance he is stuck with due to our 2014 run game. So many 3rd and longs.

Ngata is a better run defender than Suh. We got Tulloch back. DEs still here and good against the run. Walker can run defend. Reid year 2. Safeties still here with run support. Whitehead at OLB instead of some Palmer. More Van Noy.

Oline has been upgraded big time. Swanson is better than Raiola talent wise and LG is much better now. RT Waddle can play more snaps than he did last year even if he starts on PUP (which he may not) and Lucas is in year 2 instead of a rookie Lucas out there. Reiff and Warford are good players and are healthy.

Rivers and Eli both had equal or even worse running games and both had superior passing seasons vs. Stafford. A good QB should be able to overcome a poor rushing attack.

Both had worse records.

Eli is the king of garbage time. Congrats

Rivers had healthy weapons including Gates and Royal underneath and Rivers had better protection. Floyd, Keenan Allen, Gates and Royal. Stafford had Calvin for 11 and Tate. Ebron will break out in year 2.

Rivers 18 picks on 32 less attempts than Stafford. Rivers had 4,200 yards like Stafford. Rivers weapons had less drops. Rivers did not have a better season.

Stafford led more scoring drives. 33 TDS +38 FG attempts=71

Rivers 37 TDs and 26 FG attempts=63

You can't compare QB ratings. Protection, drop rates are involved. And sometimes a great QB drive ends up with a Joique Bell TD.

Stafford>Rivers. Stafford>Garbage Time Eli

Both had inferior defenses, both had fewer takeaways, both had inferior "weapons", both had better YPA, both had better comp %

As far as your scoring drive stats....Rivers led his team to TD's on 61% of the scoring drives compared to Stafford's 46%. You do understand that the QB's job is to lead his team to TD's...not FG attempts...right? Thanks for the good stat that proves Rivers > Stafford!

You lead the team to points. Rivers had better protection (lions injured OLine) and less drops, hence better numbers (comp %). Rivers had more picks in less attempts and led less scoring drives. Stafford led many scoring drives that ended up with a Bell TD. Rivers had to score for the Chargers (only 6 rushing TDs). Rivers has Gates (12 TDS).

Stafford had a better 2014 than Rivers no matter what the QB rating and comp % say. Stafford still had more to deal with than Rivers. And Rivers had 4 good passing options including a HOF bound TE, Stafford had 2 and a rookie TE.

wait....you have said that CJ is the best WR in the game and Tate is a #1 and the best #2 in the league. I'm confused...which is it?

I think we all need 1 month of rest. Most of us are at fault but it's become 1 big zergfest.

Lions have a better number 1 and 2 clearly. Chargers have a good number 1 and 2 though with Floyd and Allen and also they had Royal and Gates. A very good slot WR and a HOF TE. 19 TDs from Royal and Gates (7 and 12). And we only had Calvin for 11 games really.

4 dependable weapons helps. 2 great weapons is nice but in 2015 we'll reach full weapon potential with Ebron break out. Abdullah in the mix over hurt Bush will help too.

You need to start following along better and not mix arguments. Especially when you know I already beat you in this one. I think it was the scoring drives that clinched it for giving me the win.
