Computers still love Michigan

Why do you think I need to be told it's not exactly 50/50 after I just asked you a question about how likely it was? Is that your answer? "Not 50/50"? This is in the context of calling Michigan badly outplayed. You should have enough confidence to make stronger points than pointing out that it wasn't 50/50.

it's impossible to assign a probability to ability and effort that's even remotely reliable. I don't need a 95% confidence interval to say it wasn't luck that a ball wasn't intercepted on play where both teams have a shot at the catch. I guarantee you if it was Tarik Black that made those plays, you wouldn't be chalking it up to luck - just like the ND fan you quoted, you'd be saying "wow, Black really bailed out Patterson on those plays" and you would be right. And as far as the context of uofm being badly outplayed, that doesn't hinge on both or even 1 of those plays going the way they did. I have the confidence to say ND wasn't lucky to win that game nor were they lucky that uofm didn't intercept 1 or both of those balls or that on balance whatever luck there was heavily favored ND regardless of whether or not I can satisfy you with an arbitrary number.

ND earned the win by outplaying uofm badly. the interceptions that could have been is excuse making and late TD against the prevent defense to make the game look closer on the scoreboard is a moral victory for uofm fans, ND clearly outplayed uofm.

There's also the penalties to consider. You take these lucky plays and these penalties out and the 3 drives that make up 80% of ND progress are dead. Even with those drives as they were, Michigan had similar yardage and 1st downs. You call that getting outplayed badly. 'Badly' is subjective, but that doesn't mean you can't be wrong using the word. It would lead a person that didn't see the game to have an incorrect impression of how it went.

Brian Kelley is not known as a coach that takes the foot off the pedal. You don't think he'd love to pound Michigan? Michigan got outplayed and lost, but it was not a clownstomping and they didn't get dominated, like someone is saying is a fact.

Michigan @ ND final score 24-17

Yes, there was a kick-off return for a TD. Those count as 7 points last I heard.

Some other ND scores this year:

ND @ Wake Forest 56-27. Now that is a clownstomping

ND vs Stanford 38-17. A 21 point victory that I would call another clownstomping. I wonder why BK didn't call off the dogs and go into prevent in this game...

ND @ VT 45-23. Clearly, this is another blow-out...a clownstomping. BK is known as a guy that runs up the score when he can.

Again, why would he call off the dogs, go conservative, go into a prevent D, let the game stay close, or whatever one might call it? There is absolutely no reason to believe he would. If his team was so clearly outplaying Michigan, then why not run it up?

A 7 point game cannot be a clownstomping. It just makes no sense.

The only thing that makes sense with Spartanmack is the ignore option. You unfortunately still see when people quote his posts, but much of the bullshit is removed.

A team doesn’t go conservative to be nice and let the other team slowly crawl back into the game. A team goes conservatives to limit the chance of turnovers, leading to quick scores by the a opponent and a momentum shift.

It worked. Notre Dame won.

It’s rivalry week, people are talking a little smack. I’m not going to let a little smack talk from the fan of a rival ruin my day.

If Spartan Mack wants to see it as a clown stomping, he can go ahead and do it. I wouldn’t dream of standing in his way.

So, if you take out the kick return for a TD and the garbage time TD, 100% of uofm's TD's come off the board.

so the penalties are bad luck too? If you commit the penalties, I think you should leave them in, but that's just my opinion. I also leave in the plays where ND players made plays you might not expect them to make.

Michigan had similar yardage because they Finally moved the ball 75 yards on their only sustained drive of the night against the prevent defense.

Yes this is my opinion, and you have yours which can be wrong (is wrong, in my opinion). I don't think I'd be misleading anyway who didn't see the game - in my opinion, I'm preventing people who only saw the score or the box score from having an incorrect impression of how it went.

without a doubt, your best option - if only one or two others were as smart as you, they'd avoid the online clown stompings they subject themselves to on a regular basis.

because he understands football isn't just a game where you send a bunch of knuckleheads out onto a field to smash into each other and hope for the best.

so we've devolved to dick jokes? your big threads are so intimidating. What are you 15?

I was talking about the length of our threads. Leave it to a Sparty to be focusing on his genitalia. Jeez, don't you have a job? Seems like you are spending an inordinate amount of time on the Michigan board. Stop playing with yourself, get out of your Momma's basement and get a job!

maybe 15 was a little high - you're not as clever as you think you are. of course you could be in your late 30s like mc and vic, they also talk about dicks a lot.

As far as I can see you are the only one talking about such things.

I think Gulo and I are the only UM posters in our late 30's. I might be forgetting someone else though.

I can't

I graduated in '96, but that tells nothing about my age...

I went straight from HS to college, no military or other. I guess I assumed you could guess I'm not in my 30's anyways ...does clarifying my HS Grad date of 1991 help at all?

I was born in 1973 ....but that just gives it away too easily.

yeah, that is too easy. I had an idea of how old you were anyway, since it has been discussed before
