Game 15: Lions @ Bears Thread

Obviously there are flaws, but there by definition has to be more good things than flaws when their record is 11-4 ..

Of course there is. That's why we don't bash the DL or the defense as a whole or the DC (remember Gunther). Should that leave OC off limits, or the QB or drafting a TE at 10?

Chance at 12-4 Mitch. If he has a zero passer rating but the Lions win, how much will people bitch immediately following the game instead of celebrating a very rare moment for the Lions?

We have seen far worse play at QB. Does that mean I like Stafford and his problematic play? No! But this game is a team game. Other teams have won it all with bad QBs and relatively poor play compared to the other playoff teams.

Only way you can have a chance is to get in.... yet now that they are in, the negativity is at a season high.

I think most people would celebrate 12-4 and a division title.

Until someone mentions how Stafford led us to our first division title of the century.
Then someone would point out it was our defense and we won in spite of him a number of games...then all hell breaks lose for the week and people get separated into Slappies vs Haters.

Who says people are not enjoying themselves? I'm loving this season, but I don't always post happy thoughts. These forums are used for discussion, and usually what people want to discuss is how to improve the team or get better. That leads to perceived "negativity" and yes some do take it to the extreme, but all in all it's just the fan in us wanting to see the greatest team possible out on the field.

Negative posting does not mean a person is not happy with the season overall. Take it for what it is. People like to vent their anger too, and that's pretty much what 90% of talk radio and message boards are for.

Whatever, I'm fucking done with this shit. You all want to have a bitch fest have at it. Live a life of misery, form a suicide pact for all I care.

Sounds like your life is more miserable then that haters life.

Most of the haters can separate football from life and post negative things without feeling negative themselves.

I mean is Stafford a hater of himself? Is Caldwell a hater? they say they aren't playing nearly well enough as well.

Whatever? Dude I was trying to have a rational discussion here. I do not participate in any sort of bitch fest as you put it. You do not know how anybody here lives their life, so just relax.

I started a thread about missing on OBJ, cannot imagine how awesome it would have been watching him do one-handed grabs on every pass Staff throws his way. Dude is the real deal and matched up with CJ and Tate would have been amazing, except for Stafford. Toss in that they missed out on Peyton Manning.... coupled with this defense.... Potentially could have been 15-1, with loss to Pats cuz Peyton usually loses to Brady. Lol

So why are you focused on tearing me down? I'm not the one who needs to relax.

Not trying to tear you down at all. I was making a point to try and help you understand why people post in the manner that they do. It seems to really bother you, so I was trying to help. Not trying to tear you down whatsoever.

For the record I am most definitely not a "hater." I don't think anybody would classify me as such. I love certain things about Stafford, and don't like other things. I love that he's cut the turnovers down this season, which was a major issue in the second half of last season. He's incredibly good in tight situations, and has led multiple fourth quarter comebacks. The defense has played above and beyond what any of us thought (except LKP who just always claims everyone on the Lions is the best). I don't see the same dysfunction as a team under Caldwell that we saw under Schwartz. All of this is great.

However that doesn't mean I don't have my concerns. I wish Stafford wouldn't lock on to CJ so often and force it to him at times when it's ill-advised. I wish that we could run the ball better, and protect better (OLine issues). There's nothing wrong with pointing these things out, because I want the team to be the best possible team they can be. I'm a fan!

That's not a hater. That's me expressing my opinion, no more no less.

Again, if this team is as amazing as the record is, and there are zero flaws, you may as well shut this message board down.

This would be the discussion:
"Team is 11-4, unbelievable."
"No flaws."
"Can't wait for the super bowl."
"Love the Lions."

You think the Colts message board is all greatness? Or the Steelers? Cardinals? No. Every team, even the mighty Patriots, has flaws that need to be discussed. It just so happens that one of the biggest issues on this team is the QB's lack of overall improvement, which will make for a lot of talk.

You focus on me and not Hughes and the others who immediately bashed the team after the win. I point those same things out as you did, but I'm the one you chose to tear into. That speaks volumes.

Some of us come on here to share in the good and the bad, but on here after this game it was constant bashing of Stafford instead of celebrating the win and chance at 12-4.

Look at the thread 'Fun stat of the day'. Yet, you aren't on there ripping into Hughes. I was just posting a fun, pretty insignificant thought, but it gets ripped apart. The negativity is fucking ridiculous.

I never said don't have criticism, I'm saying the degree of negativity is unjustifiable. There could be quality discussions with back and forth, but the negativity is killing that potential. You guys are just passed off at anything positive that gets posted and very rarely if ever post something positive.

Instead of what you quoted, it instead is...

Stafford sucks
No chance to win at GB
Yeah, then road game in playoffs, automatic loss
Fuck Mayhew, Fuck Caldwell, Fuck Lombardi
Lions Suck!

I stated before I am not trying to rip into you. If you don't believe me that is your choice, but I don't know what else to tell you. I did not reply to the thread with the "fun stat" because the content didn't interest me enough. I also did not respond immediately to you until after about two or three pages of you trying to argue your point. It got me interested reading about it, so I jumped in.

I already explained to you that I understand why people bash and post perceived negative thoughts even after wins. I get it, and I understand it so why would I "rip into" them for it? That does not mean I agree with it or would take part in it myself. You can see in my posting history that I do not typically. Perhaps now and again, but overall I am not on that level.

Who is pissed off at anything positive?? You have to stop reading trying to read between the lines.

It has been pointed out multiple times by me and others that this team is playing great, the defense is awesome. What is there to talk about it? Here...

The defense is great. Team is playing well. And that's the end of that discussion, there's nothing to elaborate on.

Not sure that others follow my style, but there are times I take a week off from these message boards after things are going well. What else can be added? When the Lions handle business, the boards are boring. Same with Michigan basketball (when they are good), Tigers, Wings, whatever.

Again, you chose to counter my posts. You did not post against Hughes, you did not counter the negative hysteria, but when I did, you chose to counter me and my attempt to get people to recognize the positives that the team just broke a long losing streak and overcame the mental aspects that they have not oft overcome in the past.

People can post what they want, I'm calling out those who are overly negative when this is one of the best moments in Lions history over the past 50 years.

A lot of the negativity honestly is just anti-LKP posting and people who are irritated with his nonsense. I have had the stance since before the season that LKP is just a persona the guy puts on, and that he is not being genuine and just likes to troll Lions fans. He needs to be ignored.

As Col. Nathan R. Jessup once said "you want us on that wall. You need us on that wall.."

It really is true on what dub said, ["you need us just like we need you."]

I did not counter one thing you said. I did not say "positives should not be recognized" nor did I say "negativity is the right attitude" or anything along those lines. You seemed genuinely upset, and I was trying to help by offering my perspective. If you honestly feel I was ripping into you, then I apologize because that's not my intention.

I never get too high or too low with sports. And while it's nice that the team is 11-4, I don't feel it's necessary to celebrate it like it's some amazing accomplishment. I guess that's how truly sad this franchise is.

Now, if the team wins a playoff game and brings true hope of a super bowl to this town, then I'll start really buying in. But it's all regular season right now, which won't mean anything next year if it doesn't turn into postseason results.

And honestly this happens in every board here pertaining to a team and everywhere in the entire world. You ever read game threads? It's basically this:

"Son of a *** why..stupid drop"
"You suck Stafford"
"Ooh good throw"
"Nice run by Bush"
"stupid Bush"
"Really, 4 missed tackles"
"down to these bums"
"Nice tackle"
"where the fk is Suh"
"Nice sack Suh"
"Stafford sucks"
"Damn man, can't believe you dropped that"
"Good throw and catch"
"Fuck"
"Yes"
"Shit"
"Oh yeah"

This happens in all of 5 minutes .. It's sports.

Most of my positivist early in the year had sarcastic tone. 16-0, blah, blah, blah. Ive had my share of criticisms that I have posted on here, but they just made the playoffs and ended a long losing streak. Was it an ugly win, yes... but most of the wins have been. One or two can be a fluke, but by now we should unstand this is who they are. You don't have to like it, but show some degree of positivist that they are overcoming their bad play. They are not SOL, not this. ear, it is time to recognize that, regardless of what they do here out. They've given us far more to be happy about than not.

But its not who they are....you have no idea who they are vs good teams because we havent played any. We beat gb on a down week from arod. And thats about it. We got smoked by a good ne team. 1 win vs .500 or better teams. if we play like this in the playoffs we will get blown out. Maybe we squeek out a win playing like crap...maybe we dont. But to equate most of us having a realistic viewpoint of how poorly our offense has played to beating girlfriends makes you a fucking idiot.

You think were playing well? Keep thinking that. ..but youre wrong.
