Hoops vs MSU

Not necessarily, not everything with wings can fly. Sometimes they are just there...useless...

Yes, but idiomatically, it's assumed that a frog with wings would be able to fly; hence "if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump his ass when he was a'hoppin..."

Also I recall that you have yourself pointed out on this very board - it's been a while - that a bumble with aerodynamically worthless wings somehow manages to fly, nevertheless.

Done with this thread and done with "MSU fan," until just before MIchigan plays MSU again...whenever that might be.

MSU and their fans just do not matter anymore.

Yeah I went back to blocking Mack. Just not worth getting into it anymore.

It's a joke trying to sell that beating UNC in December is worth more than beating your in-state rival in the conference tournament. The deflection is just exhausting. He's a really, really good politician. Just own up to it, Michigan's the better team, you are pissed off about losing in convincing fashion at home and in NY, and move on.

This narrative that it doesn't matter, UNC and Purdue are more important? GTFO with that shit.

Michigan's the better team...

Michigan is better today, I would say anyway.

What each will do in the NCAA tournament? - who knows?

Both teams have had very good seasons so far. Winning the regular season conference title outright like MSU did is a big deal, and winning the tournament as Michigan did is also a big deal.

Both teams achieved a lot.

The Spartans were the pre-season #2 in both polls, and Michigan was unranked.

Obviously, thus far Michigan has vastly exceeded expectations, the Spartans finished the regular season #4 and #5, so right around what was expected.

Obviously the season isn't over for both.

Either could crash and burn; the two could meet in the NCAA championship game, or anything in between.

So when all is said and done, sure, the Spartans could end up being better over the course of the whole season.

But I would say Michigan is better today.

getting into it? you're the one that jumped into the conversation and now you can't hack someone having a different opinion. You're way too sensitive if you can't accept that someone might not think beating uofm is more important than beating a better team. But you should be grateful Hungry is back - you're no longer the dumbest person in the argument.

Honestly I think Delaney will wind up costing the B10 with the time off between Conf and NCAA Tourneys.

I have had this concern too.

I'm hoping that now Michigan will be seeded high enough to draw a patsy in the first round to shake the rust off.

As the talking heads were saying, it can cut both ways; it can give injuries a chance to heel, but I can also bring on rust.

I was telling my wife yesterday that Justin Verlander started the first game of two World Series after a way too long of a layoff because the Tigers had won the ALCS much sooner than either the Cardinals or the Giants won the NLCS.

So yes, I have been concerned.

What's a better win, beating #5 on a neutral court or beating #13 on a neutral court???? Once again, the committee does not take rivals into account. As i said before, I'm not happy with a loss to Michigan. I'd rather see a win vs them over any team, but the NC win is a better win on the resume. Why are you struggling with that so much????

Is it?

Why?

Also, what rankings matter?

The rankings when the games are played, or the rankings as they end up?

I don't know where UNC was ranked when MSU played them - I guess you're implying they were #5 - but now they're #12 and #11, and Michigan is #7.

UNC isn't done though - they could go up or down.

That said, I kind of don't get why M fans would care much whether Duke or NC games matter to MSU fans than more than games against Michigan or not.

Michigan has two out of conferences wins this season that mean more to me than the wins against MSU - UCLA and Texas.

UCLA has won more NCAA tournaments than any other team, and UT is in Austin, where George Bush lived when he was the governor.

Austin is also a mecca for music of all genres - not everybody knows that.

Those are their current RPI rankings. NC is 5 and Mich is 13.

Yeah you are right. The UCLA game was much more important than you guys. At least they competed.

What you and Mack are doing is the classic, instinctual reaction to a loss that gets under your skin. Get your ass kicked by your rivals twice and come back with, "Well, the tournament doesn't matter." "We don't care too much about that loss, Duke and UNC are more important."

I used to do it back in the day when it was tough for me to accept losses to a rival. But I learned how important it is. And that's why those losses burn me. I don't do this deflecting BS that has strangely taken over this board.

Oh.

Okay, thanks.

UNC is #6 though, according to this.

That said, you are absolutely right.

A win against #6 in the RPI rankings is far, far better on the resume than two losses against #13.

Certainly, a win against #6 and a loss against #4 (Duke) are a better two game combo than two losses against #13, as far as the resume goes.

Only an idiot would argue against you on that point.

I guess though, we Michigan fans should re-think the value of our team's wins over State, resume-wise.

Of the four, MSU sucks the most ass, all the way down at #15, according to the RPI rankings.

Wow, it really bothers you that a loss doesn't have me on the ledge :lmao:

Nah, I just find it absolutely hilarious that M football fans got shit on for years from you guys that we valued ND and OSU more than you, and now it's come completely full circle. The irony is just laughable.

Did we fans really value ND more than the Spartans?

I didn't think that.

The Spartans have their own rivalry with the Irish themselves anyway.

Notre Dame being a vastly more legendary and storied football program than the Spartans could ever dream of being - arguably iconic - doesn't mean the in state rivalry doesn't matter.

When we think of all the movies those bozos in Hollywood - didn't they just have the Oscars there, and shit? - have made about Irish football, I guess maybe Michigan fans should re-think how important the Spartans really are, vis a vis Notre Dame.

HBO made a classic documentary about the Ohio State - Michigan, not the Michigan State - Michigan rivalry.

Again - blame Hollywood - don't blame us Michigan fans.

We just show up and watch the games.

Tinsel, did you fall asleep for about 25 years of Michigan football?? lol.

Yes, the fans valued ND WAY more than MSU. MSU was an after-thought in that football rivalry.

(shhhhh...I was being sarcastic...don't tell them....)

I think a good analogy to Michigan football would be if OSU was #13 and ND was #5. In that scenario, I'd very much prefer the win over OSU and it isn't remotely close.

And that is why we call you the smartest guy on this board - and by "we" I don't mean the general consensus on this board, as enlightened as the rest of them may be; I'm referring to myself (the very occasionally correctly used self-reflective first person pronoun in this situation) and Vic, who years ago together bilaterally and tribunally accorded you as such, with no requisite authorization from anyone else, the unequivocal and incontestable distinction as smartest poster on this here board.

The Little Brown Jug game is bigger than MSU. It involves an older trophy, so naturally it's bigger.
