I hope the tigers sign ichiro to a 1 or 2 year deal

Hunter was making 18 per and with him having a good season I bet he still gets that. I think he'd be great, still can play solid D, still can run the bases and one of those rare guys who hits as well on the road as he does at home. But do the Tigers go with another big contract?

I dunno, because of his age I'm sure he gets less then 18 per.

He's not a top tier player anymore, and should not command top 20 money a season, more likely 2 years at 27M, respectable for a solid producer.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that.

Regards to Sanchez, I don't mind him so much like others on here. I think he can be a valuable SP for us. He got a bad mark because he had one bad game and one so-so game against better competition.

He had more than 1 bad game, don't sugar coat it.

And I don't dislike him, but I don't think he's going to be worth the money we will have to pay for him, if he signs for less then he;s making now I'm fine with him, but if he wants the same or more, which is likely, then no thank you.

When there was a discussion on it - it was all about he can't pitch well against teams that are above .500. Find out that there was only 3 such games, a bad start, a so-so start and a good start. So no sugar coating here..Its okay if you don't like him but don't make him out to be worse than he was.

So you're only counting above .500 starts? Fuck that, count everything he's done here. All the games count, not just against the .500 teams.

Looking at the game logs I'd say he had 4 good starts, 4 okay starts, and 4 bad starts, he's making 8 million now.

And I already said, I don't dislike him, but he's going to be overpriced.

Because when it was brought up that he has pitched well after a rough start, 7 of 8 or something like that I kept on hearing, from you as well, about his starts against above .500 teams. So I found out it was only 3 starts and only one was bad.

Who-else you going to get that's better for less than 8 million. Inge was making 6m, baseball players get paid.

You never heard anything from me about against .500 teams only.

Because that's stupid, I remember reading the discussion, but staying out of "the only good against sub .500 teams" bullshit

And I didn't say better for less than 8 million, I said he's not going to be worth what he's going to be paid, which is going to be well over 8 million.

And for the record, I think everyone thought the Inge contract was stupidly high.

Who does?

Anibel Sanchez has the 12th best FIP in the majors over the last three seasons.

8 million a year is more than appropriate for him.

If the Tigers can get him at that figure they should pull the trigger.

.322 in NY or do those numbers not matter. And his defense>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Raburn and BB. Granted I don't want him at a huge cost. But the OP mentions, if he's reasonable. Since he's not a power hitter I think he could bat well in Comerica.

And barely better, lmao. Put both those guys in the OF at the same time at the same position and he's better. Give them 6 strikes and he's better.

2.6 WAR this year, .4 last. Yes he's barely better at this stage. He is valuable for the right price, but that price better be no more than 6-7 million.

He's going to get over 10, probably closer to 12 a year. Not worth it when we already have decent pitchers on the roster who are cheaper.

if they could get Ichiro at 7 million per (just a hair more than DY) and they both put up equal numbers to this season that would be an improvement of 4 WAR over Boesch and 3 WAR over DY (using your own measurement)

that would be a pretty sizeable increase in production for essentially the same money.

An increase over nothing always seems like a lot.

Ichiro is not going to be enough, we don't want our corner OF to be a little better then Boesch and Young, we need it to actually be productive.

Do you seriously think what our team needs from a corner OF spot is a slap singles hitter with declining skills who walks (22) about as often as Delmon does and managed a .307 OBP, and a .696 OPS for 2012? (fwiw DY was 20 BB, .296 OBP, .707 OPS)...I must be missing this sizable increase in production.

You mean Porcello and an unknown. Nothing wrong with having 4 solid pitchers.

Dont understand the infatuation with Ichiro that some people seem to have. He is washed up and the opposite of what the Tigers need. Ichiro has been awful the past two years and is just getting older. It would be foolish to sign him for any amount of money.

Who's the unknown?

Smyly is hardly unknown. Smyly needs to work on his BB/9 and his stamina and he should be a solid starter.

We also have Below, so even if we don't re-sign Anibal, and manage to trade away Rick, we still have 5 potential starters with MLB experience ready to go.

I'm all for grabbing Sanchez, if's he cheap, which he likely wont be.

With the troubles of our 4th and 5th most of the time this season, Leyland still didn't put Smyly in the rotation. That leads me to believe he has no faith in him and won't be an option.

I don't think that anyone has expressed infatuation. It's business, not personal. For the right price some (myself included) think that Ichiro would be a plus player.

No I don't think the team needs Ichiro I think he may be the best option for the price. Unless the Tigers dramatically increase payroll they are looking at Angel Pagan, Cody Ross, Ichiro territory.

With the pay hikes scherzer, fister, jackson, and avila are due in the offseason the money saved from inge and young will be gone.

And Valverde most likely.
