Lombardi and others....FIRED

Yes, thank you NFL Gods for adding the Bears twice next year

I think sometimes the results can mask the talent.

I don't think we were an 11-5 team last season. We got some lucky breaks, stayed mostly healthy, and it masked the problem spots. The D-Line masked weaknesses in the secondary, as an example.

I don't think we're 1-6 shitty this season. We've gotten some unlucky breaks. The D-Line is exaggerating the secondary's problems now. We've had the injuries.

I know people are down on this team, and they should be. It's a horrible team. But I don't think it's horrible players. The bad points have masked any of the good points.

I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't see a hopeless squad. And I don't think we need a total teardown to compete next season, but we didn't hit the mark filling in the gaps this season for sure.

Were not 1 offseason away from being a complete team either. Theres way too many holes on the defense....and then if we address the defense we roll with the same oline???? The result of having 2-3 mega priced guys on your team...then 1 of the mega priced guys leaves. Just not time or cap space to recover when you historically haven't drafted well.

Can't argue with any of that except I don't think Reiff is any good.

I think I agree with Mitch....or should I say I hope I agree with Mitch cause we cant afford to have any more holes on this team lol. Slide Reiff to RT and hope he improves.

First time poster, so don't mind me. But I have to wonder if Reiff's problems are more scheme related. Because he was solid under Linehan when they ran more power blocking. And Lombardi ran mostly (if not completely) zone, which we're not built for at all. I just get the feeling that he tried to fit a bunch of square pegs into round holes.

Reiff is the 6th best tackle in the LEAGUE in run blocking grade

37th out of 105 rated tackles in pass blocking.

Reiff is a good left tackle. RT, Laken and Swanson have been the problems. And TE and RBs can block better. Plus scheme. Reiff had a poor first 3 games but rebounded well since.

25th ranked out 105 overall

Where do you want a good run blocker, and pass blocker. The better run blocker, Reiff should be at RT. Now we need a good pass blocker on the left. That's football 101. I think Reiff could be a big player on this team if moved to RT.

Btw, welcome. And I agree with your post.

Much appreciated.

And this is probably the most frustrating season I remember in my 30 years of fandom for that reason. We suck but it's really hard telling what we even have because our roster doesn't seem to be being utilized to their strengths.

Good luck to you code. Welcome to the jungle.

Prepare for LKP to be a ridiculous optimist to the point of trolling, and Tony to call you a dumbass, fucktard, etc... Don't take offense to it. Everyone else is cool.

haha I've been lurking for quite a long time, so I know what to expect. I was an eternal optimist up until this season, but they finally broke me.

Edit: The team I mean. The team broke me. Not LKP and Tony. Everyone's cool in my book.

They broke me about 4 years ago. I haven't invested myself in the team emotionally at all. I'll come back whenever they show they care about winning and the fans.

Yep I'm pretty much in the same boat. I'm in front of the tv every week, but I'm a zombie now.

My take on the talent on this team:

Offense:
Stafford - hes put up sub par outings for way too long for me to think hes worth what he makes. Granted he had the worlds worst OC the last 2 years...but hes been bad. The offense is currently ranked 29th in the league. We continue to do dumb shit all the time when it comes to simple execution. We don't run well vs 6 man fronts and we cant pass for shit vs an 8 man box. Its dumb....which is pretty much proof hes middle of the road.

WR- Calvin and Tate are probably the most talented duo in the league.....which makes the Stafford comments even more pathedic.

RB- Abdullah has all the talent in the world but cant hang onto the ball. Riddick would be one of my favorite backs in the league but the Lions fail to use him consistently and when they do use him its predictable. Riccick is in...here comes a HB fake to the flat and circle underneath the LBs! Joique sucks and is injured.

TE- Ebron is producing in Tates bitter absence. Hes a decent 3rd option when he decides to not let the ball bounce off his hands. Cant block worth a lick. Isnt worth a top 10 pick....ever.

OL - Reiff is decent. Warford is good. Laken has potential...I guess....maybe. Samsonite blows. Toilet paper would hold up better than our revolving personnel of shit at RT.

Defense:
DLine - Everyone sucks except Ansah. Everyone.

LB - Everyone sucks except Levy who has no hip. Tulloch is done.

CB - Slay is Houston v 2.0....good #2 but we need a stud corner that can take away half the field. Slay will never be that. Mathis is done.

S- Do we even have safeties? If so, what do they do all game? I don't think I ever hear their names called.

Management:

Mayhew blows. He sucks at drafting, he sucks at signing FAs, he sucks at helping manage the cap, he sucks at planning ahead, he sucks at hiring coaches, he sucks at signing coaches to an extension then wanting to fire them a year later, he sucks at signing qbs to extensions, he sucks with the media, he sucks at addressing concerns his fanbase has, he sucks at having a database. Hes good at recruiting on Youtube.

I just have to say nail meet head. Is this the Vikings scouting report for last week?

I'm cool? YES!!

Everyone on this board sans two are good posters. If I don't show it, I appreciate everyone's input and ability to not make it personal.

Stafford, Quin, Levy,Slay,Warford, Reiff,Tate are all good players that regressed this year.

Aside from the 3 pick game, I do not see regression by Stafford. If the oline was playing up to par, I think he would be having a good year despite Lombardi.

Can't blame the OL for 3 + years. Too inconsistent.. '15 is just like '14,'13, and '12.
