The official combine thread

he caught the ball well today and looked comfortable running routes. Gillislee dropped a pass that hit him right in the hands. Bell actually looked good catching the ball too. Thought franklin looked the best out of the "speed backs." Probably wouldn't take him in the 3rd though. maybe hope to trade up from your late 4th comp pick into the early 4th to take him.

Can't trade comp picks bud

lions will use R2 + R5 + R7 to move into late R1 and get him. the R4 comp works about the same as the R5 anyway, actually having more value since it happens before it. since can't trade the comp, might as well trade the R5.

this is the preferred method to trading down from #5 and getting Austin PLUS picks to fill additional holes. additional picks are never a good thing. due to there only being 2 true speed backs in the draft, we have to use the #5 pick to grab one of them anyway, despite their injury history.

signed,

Martin Mayhew

If Geno Smith is there at 5 we are money for a trade back.

I would never draft a guy in the late first, when he was much lower than that and only moved up because of a few days at a combine.

He was a second rounder before that great tape, scouts love him and o coordinators see Harvin. Wasn't all combine, just solidified it. In general I agree thought Mitch.

Okay. I thought he was a round 3-4 guy. Anyway, I don't want to draft a WR in the first round or even the 2nd or 3rd. With CJ, Nate and Broyles its not a huge need. IMO.

I agree, so many guys that can have a bigger impact, WR should be a 4th+ KR/PR unless some how we get more picks 1-3.

Mayhew says.

With so many holes, why try and become average or below average at certain positions when we can add to what we do well?

If the Lions waste a pick on a receiver in his draft Im gonna pull my hair out. Wide receiver is a need, because Burleson was showing decline(imo) before he broke his leg last year. Hopefully they find a receiver via free agency. Who wants who at this point of the combine? Im honestly hoping that Ansah is the choice after the Lions trade down some spots or they draft Vaccaro. The real question is would you guys rather have Werner at 5 or Ansah after trading down a bit and acquiring another pick or so?

1st Ansah or Werner
2nd Elam

or

1st Vaccaro
2nd Hunt(if available)

looks like the official time was high 4.9. Truthfully I never saw Moore as a Speed rush guy the likes of dion Jordan, mingo etc. If those "fast" guys are running 4.5s and 4.6s then I would think moore and werner should be around 4.8-4.9. Its not a horrible time....just not a head turner.

The thing id be looking at if I was mayhew is the drop off between rounds 1 and 2. Theres going to be a lot of quality DEs on the board at the top of round 2. There wont be many quality starting CBs. That's the main reason id go Milliner in rd 1. Not cause he belongs to be the top 5 pick.....but cause it fills the need and we can still fill the DE spot in rd 2 with a quality starter.

Filling short term needs in lieu of talent and reaching for a player. Dumb move and Mayhew won't do it. CB won't be a huge need WHEN they get Houston back.

Plus the draft is 2 rounds deep for CB. Lots of good Round 2 CBs will be available early in Round 2.

mayhew is the best corner on our roster....that's how much talent we have. If you don't think milliner is talented then you don't watch football. Kid was a stud all year on the best team in college football. Short term need?....weve needed a corner for 30 years.

Hey, if the chips fall right we can sell the farm and get Revis and Aso as last I heard both are likely to be let go by respective teams. Would make a hell of a nice tandem at CB. We just need to clear up a couple million in cap, no problem.

All kidding aside, I just cannot fathom Mayhew going CB at #5. Even if going by need there ar other positions more desperate, crazy as that sounds.

Didn't someone on here want to take Teo at 5 and move him to olb? Yikes
