Lombarid on Staffords Picks

This is why I know some of you like hughes and dalton are really biased AGAINST the Lions. You want to see Mayhew fail.

The Lions are loaded with talent. That talent was prone to some turnovers. It cost them games but they did enough to win more than 7 games based on moving the ball, making stops and scoring points.

If this new coaching staff can get the true potential of the talent on this team. It's Super Bowl quality. And you all will have to shut it for a long time.

It's actually a win-win for me.

I don't legitimately spew hate on this board, just a few joking stabs at some players.

If the Lions win, I get to see my team win.

If the Lions lose, I get to see you proven wrong.

I also don't care how talented this team is. Even if the 2013 Lions were the most talented team in the history of the NFL, they only won 7 fucking games and that's the only thing that matters.

The fact that you are ok with the Lions losing, shows your true colors too.

Going forward, talent is how you judge them. Not the 33 and 34 turnovers in 2012 and 2013. Especially with a new coaching staff.

Lions make the playoffs in 2014 and go far. The talent is there.

Not ok with them losing, just used to it...doesn't bother me.

I HOPE you're right, but I'm not buying into it yet. The off-season fan circle jerk over the talent is meaningless if it doesn't translate to success on the field.

It should bother you. This team is too talented. 33/34 turnovers a season won't continue with this new staff. Once that is figured out, the sky is the limit for this team. Super Bowls (plural). They move the ball, stop teams and score points better than anyone. Turnovers have screwed them and it's annoying because they are loaded with talent. And even with the turnovers they still should have won a bunch more games. Too have that many turnovers and be so damn close to 13-3 is crazy. They are loaded.

Once again, I hope so.

But this franchise has a history of letting the fans down regardless of what they put on the field.

I'll believe it when I see it.

This thread is hurting my side's.

Talent is how you judge them not the 11 wins in two years..I'm curious how the new staff will cut down on turnovers? You said it was a given they'd have less turnovers in 2013 than 2012. Well that didn't happen..

SB 49 is about 15 minutes from me so either way I can't wait. Maybe I can get a job selling popcorn or be a bouncer.

It's insane how the Lions fumble recovery rate was so poor in 2013. Burleson and Broyles got hurt again didn't help and there were plenty of forces to Calvin because of it. Bush and Stafford may always be turnover prone if the new coaches can't fix. Or they just may have been in bad situaitons that the turnovers will go away with better situations. Every play is different and the Lions need more concentration. But the talent of moving the ball, making stops and scoring is the best in the league. And that makes me think they can in a Super bowl.

The only way I see less INT is if he throws less. But I'll take 17-18 picks if he throws 40 TD's. Something happened from 2011 to now..there are so many flaws in his game. He needs a lot of fixing.

I have a big thing with progression reads. Some will disagree but I don't see him reading the field particularly well. It's almost like he's trying to break some sort of "quickest throw" record or something. He needs to slow down a bit and make the right decision instead of the first decision.

WRs 1-3 and TE played all 16 games in 2011. Plus Stafford had 34 turnovers forced by his defense. Then injuries happened and insanity of Titus and the turnovers stopped (39 over a 2 year span compared to 34 in one). The only thing that changed was Stafford situation went from good to shitty (sometimes average). He has solid 60%, 5000 yards (due to a bunch of first downs) and 40 TD potential every year. Stafford has so many attempts because he has so many first downs and has to go long fields because his defense doesn't get him short fields on turnvoers. Plus he is the Lions offense, it runs through him unlike guys like Kaep and Wilson.

And with a new coaching Stafford fixing the footwork I could see 14 ints or less. Given that many attempts, that's great.

Maybe he should make less first downs and more TDs. It's not even about the other wide receivers or TE playing all year. Believe or not there were times when guys like Durham and the rest of team backup were wide open only to have a pass sail over their heads or Staff going elsewhere because be doesn't know what a progression read is.

The bottom line, he's inaccurate. Better WR will catch a few more balls because they can leap better? Nothing will change that fact, he was inaccurate in college and inaccurate as a pro. I bet if we went back to HS or junior high he'd be inaccurate there as well.

Stafford has plenty of TDS. The Lions are high in the league and have near the top in redzone efficiency. 29 is very high especially given his situation with defensive turnovers and lack of WRs. First downs lead to TDS and FGs. The Lions put up plenty of points and that PPG would be higher with more turnovers and better or healthier WRs. 29 PPG in 2011 (7 defensive TDS). That's 3 PPG just from the defense. Surely the difference between 26 PPG and 24.8 PPG is healthy WRS in 2011 compared to 2013 and some shorter fields (27 additional turnovers on top of the 7 for TDS).

Stafford is plenty accurate. His WRS need to learn how to catch the ball and get better separation. There is always room for improvement but if Stafford played at the same 2013 level he would have 40 TDS AGAIN with more def turnovers and better healthy WRS. Stafford played better in 2013 than he did in 2011.

This is your problem. You think I want to see mayhew fail. When in the REAL world....he ALREADY has failed and our retarded owner keeps him on staff. He failed when he was with millen. He failed when he had shack harris in charge of scouting and personel decisions. hes failed year after year after year. he failed when he brought Schwartz, linehan and Gunther on board. Hes a failure. Supported by his FAILING record.

I agree with grandy and felt this way for years. It was absolutely hilarious that every single one of LKPS predictions last year went down the shitter within a matter of weeks. fox will stay healthy, Pettigrew wont have turnovers, defense will cause turnovers, broyles will contribute. Wonder what vegas thought about all of those things happening lmao.

I was never in favor of hiring someone who was the man behind the guy who just got fired. Without Mayhew I'm not sure we would be better, history says we wouldn't be. But after Millen I would have just went outside to get the new GM.

I was right. 6-3 start then injuries and bullshit turnovers. Lions are loaded with talent. Any NFL guy says that and that means Mayhew has not failed. Mayhew will be GM of the year very soon. The new staff will minimize turnovers and maximize the talent on this team.

Broyles contributed when healthy and got hurt, we found Waddle I don't care about Fox (which I never said he would healthy just play solid), Pettgirew did drop his drops and turnovers (only 1 fumble). I was more right than wrong on all those guys. You are blind hughes and a terribe Lions fan (biased) or completely inept at judging talent. Mayhew has not failed at all.

Mayhew's record: 29-52 (includes the playoff loss), .358 winning percentage

Oh, his first year doesn't count because it was coming off 0-16? Ok, 27-38 (.415)
Does his second year even count because it still had 0-16 stench? No? No problem, 21-28 (.429)

Even if you completely erase/eliminate the first two years, the teams under Mayhew have posted a .429 winning percentage. That's not good, that's not acceptable.

I won't pin all the blame on Mayhew, the coaches deserve some, the players probably deserve a lot, and there's always random luck. But he's still the head of it all, it comes with the position...he drafts/signs/acquires the players and signs off on the coaches.

At what point do we say enough is enough? If the Lions don't make the playoffs next year should he stay? and if so, why?

Mediocrity is unacceptable and any fan who accepts it is hardly a fan.

I'm not yet screaming "Fire Mayhew", but I think the Lions have one more year to get it together under him. If they can't do that, I think it's time to move on.

The talent is there. The turnovers (67 turnovers in 2 years) caused 4-12 and 7-9 along with injuries in a bunch of close losses. With that many turnovers, a lesser talented team would have gotten blown out not lost a bunch of heartbreakers. That's not on Mayhew. Some coaching, some bad luck and some very very talented guys losing focus. There is way more good than bad with Stafford and Bush and we need some WR healthy for once.

2011 is the Lions staying healthy and scratching the surface of their potential. They just need to put it all together. WR 2 and kicker and some Slay/Bentley development.
